I recently helped a mate cleanse his paint on the work car that sits outside the welding workshop. Bowden’s Own Three Way and clay bar. Australian products.

Outside a welding shop. To prepare metal for welding they will grind the metal. Do they grind outside or with the door open? Metall “dust” settling on the car paint

I'm just surprised that stuff grows right out of the ground.

In the future brother try one spray on the panel and one spray on the clay towel and see if you can achieve the same results without having to use so much chemical…I did my wife’s white model x just spraying all over and went through damn near a whole spray bottle lol. Tried doing it how Yvan LeCroix teaches and was like “damn…” haven’t went back and still have iron remover

His diy brand iron remover is designed to be used like this. I wouldn't do it with another brand unless they state it's safe to lubricate a clay towel enough.

I actually don’t use any of his products, any iron remover is gonna work. I’ve used 3 different brands and all of em did the same thing and smelled equally like rancid butt hole lol

And I don’t spray 1:1, usually 2:1 but the basic idea is OP doesn’t need to douse the entire car with iron remover…lubrication as you pointed is key, you can use any multitude of clay lubes or quick detail sprays for that while still mitigating how much iron remover is required. Most brands price iron remover in particular extremely high compared to other chemicals

You’re right. The manufacturer recommends doing a single panel at a time. Spraying more if needed to lubricate and then thoroughly rinsing before moving on to the next panel

Also also, whenever you feel the clay towel/mitt start to grab is an easy indicator to give it an extra spray

3D makes a clay pad for a da polisher it’s so easy to decontaminate a vehicle now

Say less!! Looking into that right meow

$50 not bad I wonder how much extra lubricant is needed to keep it from grabbing, have you used it?

you can just soap up the car and go to town.... Just needs something to lubricate its kind of amazing as are all of 3Ds products simple and effective

I've not used a clay towel before, but to my this sounds like a great way to drag iron particles across the paint. Am I not thinking about this accurately? A lot of chemicals are being used in OPs examples, but it's less damage to the paint overall, right?

Can this damage the car at all?

I'd call this integrated polishing particles. Just take any sponge and polish away. No need for fancy equipment.

Western Australia …the iron state.

It's probably a good idea to pressure wash the car first. All that is probably surface iron particles that can be just washed off with water.

Look at all the Chinese steel... put a tarp down and sell them back the runoff as scrap 😂

Holy crap lol. Makes sense though being that close to a place dumping metal particulates into the air

I am an oddity. I've got one vehicle that was driven for 6 years, never an Iron treatment. Another driven 4 years, no iron treatment.

I figure, it's about time, so I go in with two different Iron Removers (Adam's and Turtle Wax "Reactor", spray down the wheels, go over the body panels on each expecting a reaction like the posters. I live next to an Airbase/Airport for christ sake. F35's and whatnot constantly.

Nada.... not even a dribble of a reaction anywhere except a few tiny streams of purple on the wheels themselves. Body panels? Nothing. Nothing at all. Nothing on the hoods. Nothing on the rocker panels or the body fender panels where there should be brake dust. Nothing on the tailgate.

How does that even happen? How can I possibly NOT have brake dust or iron contamination anywhere on my vehicles after multiple years as daily drivers? Is Dark Fury that powerful that it washes away brake dust from my wheels. It's not an iron remover. Are the regular weekly washes keeping the vehicles so clean no contaminants make any progress in becoming embedded? Keeping in mind, the weekly cleanings are over the last year. Prior to that, it was rare one of them was washed.

Same happened to me this morning. Car has barely even been washed in 5 years. I was expecting it to be amazing but nada. I guess that’s good?

No clue what brand OP used, I have used Adams, 3D, and McGuiars all of them worked the same IMO. I currently have 3D but whoever sells the cheapest gallon/4L is where I would go personally
