Yo, Yesterday after 760 hours I finished the game in honourmode. It was my first time ending the game and I felt emotional about it.
Savor that win! My first honor run win gave me several near heart attacks. Less than 3% on steam have ever done it, you rock
Congratulations! I also recently finished my first honor mode run.
What was the situation you were closest to having your run wiped?
Honestly the fight against Gortash, I played with 2 friends and one played as Karlach. He provoked Gortash and the fight started directly in the big hall. It was rlly tough until we noticed the balcony's and made a run for it. How about U?
Remember that runepowder bomb gnome in Grymforge? After talking her out of exploding us all on the spot, I thought it would be safe to demand all her runepowder afterwards.
Turns out, she was not ok with it. The only party member who survived the following explosion was Astarion who toughed it out with 1 hp, lmao.
Not my fault I need to change my Name, Race, Backstory, and Lore after 10 hours.
And maybe change the class too while we're here.
And thats where it really solidifies the loop š because the class reflects the RP. Throw in mods and its a wrap
Thatās how it goes with a game this immersive! Always something new to explore.
Here I am skipping most of act 1 and 2 to get to the city as fast as possible. I really donāt see how people donāt get bored of act 1 after a while. The dialogue choices arenāt THAT fresh after 10 playthroughs. Plus the juiciest parts of the story are literally in the city lol
I get through act 1, in about 14 hours now. I take my time in Act 2 because I actually enjoy most of the interactions in that act. Act 3 is where it grind to a halt for me. I get there and I am like... I will do the House of Hope, and then start over because I dont care about the rest of it.
Brotherman cut off 40% of the game. Act 3 is titanic.
And just a scatter blast on non direction
Yeah I donāt get that, but itās your opinion and game, play however you want. To me Astarion facing Cazador, Shadowheart confronting mother superior, Wyll rescuing his father, Karlach getting revenge on Gortash, Jaheira willing to risk everything just to save Minsc and even breaking into hell to save Hope are all my favorite parts of the game. It makes me scratch my head when people have hundreds of hours in the game and are so obsessed with Act 1 they never experience the highlight moments of the main characters. To me itās like watching a movie and cutting it off right before it actually gets good.
Plus the Circus of the Last Days with its necrocampmancer Lucretious. That's one of the most entertaining locations in the whole game.
I spent an embarassing amount of time playing in the circus
I would absolutely play an expansion where you join the circus and go on planar-hopping adventures with Lucretious.
I killed shadowheart to save the nightsong in my playthrough...
Oof, theres way to save both
Damn L, how tho? I got frustrated on my first attempt so i reloaded and still failed to save both
As long as your approval with her is decent she usually spares the Nightsong. For the first dialogue pick the option where you donāt interfere. Aylin will then say something like, ābut what has been taken from you? Youāre still that child lost in the woods, afraid of wolvesā Then choose the dialogue option thatās like, āshe knows something about your pastā.
Or you could throw the spear into the abyss after entering the Shadowfell, but itās pretty easy to get Shadowheart to spare Aylin.
As long as your approval with her is decent she usually spares the Nightsong.
Well, this oughta be interesting for my four player campaign then. Honestly, that's my only real complaint with the game; too many companion quests are impossible to complete when you have four players because you can't take them out to talk to people.
Yall could use the party extender mod to have all the companions, so you can hear their dialogue and banter.
Unfortunately we resolved that this playthrough would be unmodded. We'll probably end up doing this for the next few playthroughs.
I have a hard time understanding this at all lol. Act three has the most entertaining fights. The most epic moments. The best gear. And the finale of so many quest lines.
Act 1 is boring to me now in comparison
The gear isnt really what sells me. Its also partly the lack of progression at that point. You sit at level 12 for the next 8 hours till you finally finish the game.
Yeah the dopamine hit of leveling up in Act 1 and 2 is gone
Act III is a lot of side quest content but obviously butchered by cut content and is a jumbled incoherent mess compared to act II.
This, I still haven't gotten through act 3. First time I got to the city, solved all of Shadowhearts problems because she deserves to be happy, ensured Wulbren Bongle died, then lost interest in saving the world. I think it was wandering sewers that got to me.
Iāve beaten the game once. Got to act three twice. I think the biggest thing for me was that I wouldnāt level up anymore. You get to the beginning of act 3 and your max level. Maybe now that mods are on console and I can go to twenty I might give it a shot
I actually donāt have that many, oddly. Knowing how big the game is, Iām pretty purposeful just because I canāt stand not getting to see the build in its full capacity
I've never gotten the mindset of abandoning playthoughs and abandoning dozens of hours of content to recycle Act I over and over. Even if you don't like your character, you've always got Withers and the mirror that you can use at anytime.
Getting to Act III and seeing the consequences of my choices adds so much more replay ability. Also, actually getting to have a full build with endgame gear is amazing.
1 finished normal game run, 29 failed honors runs. Yeah that me. šæš¬
These comments are crazy, I thought it was normal for folks who play these sorts of games to be at least semi, completionists. As in you surely want to know what happens in the story? What is this cult all about? And the various characters you surely want to see where their various secrets and quests lead? Instead people saying they just play mostly act 1 and 2 then restart?? I'm im shocked haha. I did 1 run balanced, 1 run tact with different choices and dark urge, now I'm on what will probably be the final run (apart from a co op game with my mate but that will take forever) on hm and have finished everything in the game apart from hope and the final showdown. It has been around 80 hours so it's not thaaat long of a game, especially on runs where you are either specifically missing out stuff for your own role play reasons or indeed, you know the game quote well by run 2 or 3 so you can prepare better for situations and know where to find things to speed things up during the slower parts of the game. I can't believe these comments šš YOURE ALL MISSING OUT ON SUCH FUN THINGS ahhhhh
Instead people saying they just play mostly act 1 and 2 then restart??
I also like to finish my playthroughs myself, but this isn't that surprising IMO.
I think most people who restart after/during Act 2 probably aren't doing it right away. They're probably spending many hours getting through Act 1 and 2, and then for one reason or another (maybe fatigue, or life gets in the way), they put the game down for a while. Then, by the time they go to pick back up the game, maybe it's been so long that they'd rather start fresh.
For me personally, I'm like you. I want to see the story conclude and I want to see my Level 12 builds in their full glory.
Maybe people need to learn to pace themselves through the game, so that you don't get fatigued on it. If you play 4 hours per night for 15 days straight, there's a chance you're going to lose enthusiasm to play. But, if you give yourself periodic breaks from the game, it'll always feel fresh.
Iām in the city and there is too much to do and very final decisions will be here soon, someone was abducted and I need to sort out alliances and Itās honestly simply too tedious for me to ever continue.
In games I usually try to have a good playthrough but here I feel basically a little overwhelmed and would rather replay the other parts.
This nailed the sentiment as a chronic restarter, I always get overwhelmed some point in Act 3 BECAUSE I am a completionist. I donāt want to forget to do one of the characters stories so Iām just running around the city nonstop until I long for the simplicity of act 1.
Too make matters worse I am also a bit of an item hoarder so I usually get overwhelmed by my inventories and stashes around this time too.
Act 3 is the Witcher 3 on steroids and that is too much for me. I have already faced several grave consequences because apparently I was too late for something or discovered something too early and then overlooked to handle something first and then this and that was triggered and now this person died and this romance is ruined for weird reasons and and and
and then it basically turns into responsibilities and then I might as well handle my real life,
The game basically expects me to go with the flow and take it as it comes and have several unique playthroughs but that is simply not how I play games.
That is THE worst, I have definitely had that where Iām in act 3 and I discover some missed opportunity in the last act or crucial plot point I missed and then I completely lose motivation to finish the play through.
You could keep a save from Act 3 early on and then go at the story a few different ways on separate save files.
I had the game glitch once and kill a character who wasn't even supposed to be in danger yet in my playthrough. Right at the beginning of act 3, it pretty much killed any desire to finish that playthrough.
YOURE ALL MISSING OUT ON SUCH FUN THINGS ahhhhh
Typically we are moving on to other fun things, so yes and no.
Sub par act 3 after a fantastic villain and act 2 does that
Yeah I have the same feeling. Underdark/Grymforge/Moonrise Towers are the best parts of the game to me.
I don't restart because I'm not curious about the ending, I restart because I have this growing urge in me to try a new character (like playing Durge instead of Tav, trying an origin character, playing Tav again but with different companions or taking a different path, etc.). I'm in act 3 now and I really wanna finish the game this time for the first time, but I already have a bunch of other ideas for playthroughs in my mind that kinda sound more fun to me š It's not like I go into a playthrough intending to never finish it, I'm just really bad at sticking to one thing for so many hours. But I think I can make it this time, already got into Wyrm's Rock Fortress!
I'm still on my first playthrough, haven't made another character. I'm on act 3. It's a game I float in and out of. I either play it for 8 hours straight for three days in a row or I don't touch it for a couple of months lol I think I'll pick back up tonight, I just finished expedition 33 and lost interest in anything else for a few days.
It's very interesting how different people play this game.
Like I did one playthrough and then shelved the game for over a year because the thought of doing the same stuff again seemed so boring to me.
After a bit over a year I got the itch to play again (as the latest update was coming out) and parts truly felt like a slog because while yes there were a few things that I did differently this time around that were pretty major overall it is still the same game and the same story with (mostly) the same characters. I still had fun and finished it but I can't understand people who have 10+ playthroughs and still enjoy it.
I admire it though and wish I could play the game more because it truly is a masterpiece. But currently the only way I can see myself go back to playing is if a group of friends got together for a multiplayer playthrough.
Not OP, but itās just a really long game, especially if you play it very thoroughly, and as much as I love it, I tend to feel ready for something else after 100 hours or so. I have 360 hours in BG3 total, but itās my only experience playing any kind of dnd, and it kind of ātiresā me in a way if that makes sense. Itās just so dense. Itās like if you combined the Witcher 3 or Mass Effect dialogue with Xcom 2 (on steroids) combat. Sometimes I just need a break and have to play something more basic after my 9 to 5.
I love the game dearly but have only completed acts 1 and 2. I consistently lose steam towards the end of act 2 and say to myself, āIāll play another game for a bit then hop back on BG3 in a few weeksā but those few weeks turn into a few months, then Iām ready for a whole new class, party composition, new choices, etc. And so the cycle continues. I tend to this with Skyrim as well so itās not exclusively a BGIII thing.
I was like this when I was younger, constantly restarting RPGs all the time to try a different class etc. I eventually just lost the patience I used to have for replaying the same content over and over again.
Act 1 is as long as many other games and I really don't like the dark vibe of act 2. I would even install a mod that skips act 2, just gives you the exp, so that you go instantly to act 3.
Iām so curious about why? Itās not that much more bleak than the first act.
It is a lot more bleak. The whole land is cursed. The 2 times I've been there felt like you are not supposed to explore, because of the shadow curse. So I end up clinging to the main story and try to not leave my path. Everything you see is dead/undead.
In Act 1 only small parts are dark, like the forest of the hag. Sure, Underdark is literally dark, but at least there are quite a few humanoids to interact and you do not get told to not explore.
I mean, it definitely has an extremely foreboding aura but thereās a lot to find and you get a myriad of ways to explore deep into the shadow curse pretty early on (Moonlantern, Isobel, probs something else Iām missing).
I see the way you feel but it made me feel the opposite, made me want to see what exactly happened to destroy it all like this. What still remains, what doesnāt, etc.
I also think Act 2 is good enough, particularly Moonrise itself and the Sharan temple, buuuuut I'm not a fan of replaying it, it just looks so grim and samey visually compared to 1 and 3
Act 2 is done very good and I personally explored the shit our of it but it makes me feel super depressed and physically sick. I am already on a thin ice mentally, I've done 3 competed runs and each time I get to act 2 I have to close the game for a while to get used to it and then literally power through. Best part of act 2 for me is that night when you get to act 3 and finally see the fucking sun.
My first time I managed to stumble onto fucking morgue, fall in some nasty ass hole with zombies underneath it and crawl out on the other side to get attacked by the fish people. I felt so disgusted, I didn't even come near the damn thing next two runs. And each time I think of giving it another run, I remember that feeling and just don't want to go through act 2 again.
Perfectly described for me as well. Act 2 is mentally taxing. I just started my second playthrough and I wish I could just skip act 2.
Actually I just finished my last play through
I beat the game 3 times already huh
Act 3 for me. I see the finish line, my party is toit. And i just start losing interest:(
Edit: holy geeze just realized i like the journey more than the destination. Reddit reflections.
150 Hours. Two complete playtroughs. You guys need to get some discipline :,(
Nah.
No right way to play games.
Lot's of people downvoted in this thread empathizing with OP. Very weird and kinda toxic.
The point of a game isn't always to "win".
I just recently went through and deleted so many incomplete playthroughs that I know I wonāt return to, theyāre just taking up space. Iāve completed the game 3 times, got to Act 3 another time then a mod wasnāt working so I quit that one. And Iām currently almost done with my first githyanki playthrough. And I plan on doing an actual Durge evil run (Iāve played this game enough that maybe now I can make the bad decisions and feel ok, plus mods help with incentives) and then Iām finally gonna do Honour Mode and I think Iāll do Wyll Origin story for that.
280 Hours in and never left Act 1 š
300 hours. Have never set foot in Moonrise.Ā
I got to act 3 and Iām just over stimulated and stopped
I call it Fort Joy syndrome
How do people manage to do that? How are you not bothered by having unfinished business?
I feel like a freak. Made a character and played it to the end. Now I do have two play throughs since that first character that I havenāt finished.
How do you know? Just now began my second playthrough to fix my build to BG's battle-focused spirit. š
I play as wizard and I acknowledged that True Strike, Friends and Magic Hand are almost useless for BG playthrough no matter how I like flavour of these cantrips for vanilla dnd.
I took fire bolt, electric touch and split between sword ward or ray of frost. The first allows fragile wizard to survive more damage the second one is free fire extinguisher against annoying fire surfaces and a way to slow down movement of enemies yet it's more like doubles fire bolt.
Act one has the most variety and never feels boring.
Ok, I'll DL a class mod and do another run thru....
Oh hey it's me
I'm never clicking on this subject again. It makes me want to fight people.
I donāt understand this type of play style or mindset at all. Itās stupid.
other people play games differently, itās not āstupidā at all
I think I'd complete more playthroughs if Acts 2 and 3 were swapped.
I'm happy to report that I have 25 finished runs with 5 pending ones and currently in the character creator screen with 1.5k hours logged
1000? Those are rookie numbers, pump those up, you aināt done!
To be fair, i have beaten the game once, but i have 270 hours, atleast 140 hours are other playthroughs with various hours in each, want to to a evil, and resist durge, and may first was kinda a mix of good and evilš sometimes i wanna work on my resist playthrough or my evil playthrough, but eventually ill probably focus on one more, but standing outside of wackems rest(I know i spelled it wrong) made me load my other save because i didnt wanna deal with that lol
So many things that I want to try... but when I start trying them my character doesn't jump as far as my old champion with athlete and that bothers me
I find act 2 a hard grind. Hours and hours of gloomy environment absolutely smashes what's happening in the story but it just makes the game feel less alive for me. Game really picks back up for me when you get into the lower city. Rivington just a change of pace after the epic Kethetic fight and to frame the rest of the game.
I literally think Iāve played 250 hours and have never gotten out of the first chapter and started over a 50 times lol
400h were in early access
Average Gale exploding before Myrkul enjoyer
Don't forget the 4+ hours in character creation!!
Part of the problem (for me at least) is that the only mods that fix the dozens of broken items so they actually do what their description says gets updated on a near daily basis, which causes all sorts of compatibility issues if you try and play with it out of date.
It means you've either got to live with the glitched objects which is hard to do once you know the scale and scope of the problem, or kill your playthrough and start over fresh every time you open the game.
In my first walkthrough I managed to get to Baldur's gate with lvl 6. Then I understood that something went wrong and I missed a lot of side quests and started a new one
I have a savegame right after Balthazar's battle and before completing the Nightsong quest. I usually start from there, reclass into something else and try different endings
How ?
I dont understand this act 1 is pretty boring after your second time through
The most noticeable change in play through I've noticed is going from any class to Drow. It made Act 1 SO much less dice roll and much more "this person belongs here so I don't even need to convince anyone". It felt powerful. Also helps that it's my dark urge run so... fits there too.
I only have one unfinished play through. I donāt have to force myself to finish a play through. I just hold onto my ideas for next time.
Man you ever have a true vision and then you yet to Act 2 and you are like āoh, a Druid would he coolā and then bam, that old character is GONE
I have 1635 hours and I'm on my 11th playthrough. No incompletes. I also have 584 hours in the mod tools.
Too real. Now days I can only play with my fiancĆ©e. It feels like āourā game now.
Ah, the new Skyrim restartitis.
This all day long⦠Iāve made it to the Kresh at least 1000 times. But only 3 times to Moonrise Towers!
I am on a similar boat. Act 3 feels too big to enjoy for me considering it is my 4th or 5th run. There are 20 quest markers on the map. So many characters to interact and follow. But worst part is lvl cap imo. We are doing a coop run with my friend rn and we are already lvl 12. Only completed quarter(?) Of act 3. All the major story elements are still ahead of us. I could respec my character for a fresh taste but narratively it feels wrong. Act 1 and 2 were so much fun but act 3 feels like I have lots of items in my todo list that needs to be completed
600 hours on my first playthrough because I spent a lot of time with the menu open āpausingā the game for days at a stretch :(
ADHD final boss
How some people play the game: many playthroughs
How I play the game: I spend 4 hours downloading appearance mods, thinking of a certain build for the theme, designing my character, and writing fanfiction in my head. Then I start act 1 super excited, get bored by the time I end up at the transponder, and quit the run forever
Fun!
Shit, I get caught up in the "theory crafting" stage so much, I hardly play the 100s of builds I make on the build maker website.
Same.
I feel personally attacked.
Only 30 at 1000 hrs. Pfft, amateur.
It's just Skyrim all over again for me.
And zero achievements because of mods š
I mostly mod. Gameplay doesn't add up to 800h, and I've got 1300+
Basically every RPG I've ever played.
BG 1 & 2, NWNĀ (Wailing Death and HotU), and Mass Effect 1 are probably the only ones I've actually completed.
Almost 1k hours too, going to finish my first playthrough soon. Hahhahaa
Only 30? Slacker. š
I started a game over a year ago and got into act 2. Picked it up recently and couldnāt remember anything that was going on or the decisions I made, so I rolled a new character. This post is giving me the validation I am craving.
The main difference between BG3 and actual D&D is that I've actually completed a campaign in BG3.
so glad Iām not the only one š„¹
rookie numbers. over in r/civ there are people with tens of thousands of hours that have never finished a game.
Dumping 1000 hours into a video game is not a flex
Getting past certain parts of act 1 is the most dangerous part of any playthrough for me. Once you reach act 2, thatās when the builds start really coming online and the story starts really kicking off in a good way.
Make it 2500h, with only about 7 fully finished playthroughs.
I'm very much an Act 1 & 2 BG3 player
This is the one that I just completely do not understand.
I have probably beat the game 10 times and act 3 is my favorite part. But I have talked to tons of people that have never even beat the game after hundreds of hours
It's those build videos, you see one and decide to start a new play through.
Only 30? Those are rookie numbers
Haha. This was definitely me, flexing my 200+ hours in the game to my friends like I was the BG3 expert, but I had only barely scratched the surface of Act 3. I finally beat the game on HM and am free of my curse, except Iāve still only probably seen half of what Act 3 has to offer.
Why did you have to call me out like this.
Too relatable
By the time I get midway through Act 3 I just want to start over again lol
400 hrs in bg3 3 full playthroughs.
I mashed my face against the game playing Honour mode trying to make x4 Wild Magic Sorcerers for fun, but it just wouldn't work (I suck). Instead I've settled for x2 Sorcerers x2 Barbarians all Wild Magic, and I've actually gotten to act 2 and taking it seriously.
I almost fucked it up today fighting Kar'niss with less than ideal positioning, because what happened?
Wild Magic: Cats and Dogs
I briefly shit my pants but he actually got Polymorphed too so I laughed my ass off, especially as I had him trapped in Black Tentacles (although it was super annoying thinking I had an instant kill, the polymorph barely lasted)
I'm still on my first play through. Currently wrapping up (I think) act 2. I think most of my hours are spent exploring the map, shopping, and managing my inventory lmao.
Hey I beat it once in all those unfinished runs!
God I've never been called out more than from this post lmao
I literally finished the game for the first time a week ago.
I have the first two acts memorized like the back of my hand. I know where the dig spots are, the number of enemies in each fight, the dialogue checks... But act 3 is still a mystery.
Same
I have bad āalt-itisā and always want to start new characters instead of continuing with one. What got me out of that in BG3 was playing as the Origin characters instead.
Me
"You are running out of storage space for save data. You will not be able to use all of your save slots for this campaign. We suggest deleting older save data."
Not just me, then!
I finally finished it and immediately uninstalled it to avoid the temptation
Personal attack
I'm in this photo and I don't like it.
Hey
Act 3 burnout is so real
Good God I'm so glad I'm not the only one I probably have like 2-300 hours on that game, restarted it like 10-20 times and not beaten it once lmao I just love the character creation!
I've got close to 400 hours in, and im still on my first run.
This is all me lol
Glad I'm not alone with this
I have one. Dozens of starts, one finish.
I'm so happy that I am not the only one ššš
I just started playing Baldurs 5days ago and I've already got 5 characters and no one has a complete playthrough
I feel attacked.
639 hours of play here, I've never left the beach at the start of the game
25 days of play time in and Iāve finally met Minsc for the first time.
The toughest part is coming up with a clever character name.

I found this on Pinterest and I might use it for my next playthrough ahah
ah yes, Lordagsgodis
Lƶrdagsgƶdis and his hammer, DjungelvrƄl
"Behold! My Dwarven Sorcerer, Farty McAssman!"
My wife and I started a co-op game the other night and she named her character "Breasticles" while I named mine "Joe".
I sighed heavily, but I love her to death and I wouldn't change a thing.
Duality of man
I even had her pick the Dark Urge so she would have as much of a "main character" feel as possible. Yes, Bhaal has a daughter named Breasticles now.
Pronounced ābreast-uh-cleeseā, of course.
You should meet her brother Testicles
Breasticles of Areolus.
Thats what I choose to believe when it comes up in dialogue, but I know the truth even as I deny it.
Real
Is she a Barbarian?
Edit: Related question, is she playing a Barbarian?
Nah, she's playing a Monk. A half orc monk, granted, but a monk.
Laeāzel, weāre being overrun in the midfield!
Assmann is a legitimate German name.
An entire family that hates visiting English-speaking countries lol
Idk man Dick Assmann became a celebrity from the name.
Main spell is poison cloud?
What coincidence! My Dwarven Sorcerer is named "Assman McFarty!"
Fuck... thats good.
Reminds me of my gnome rogue stabby mcballs
I named my character "Bardi C" but then had to explain it to my wife
Tav, Tav, Tav and Tav.
Tav, Tave, Tava, Tavian, Tavish, Tavier
Taverella, Tavson, Tavrick, Tavward, Tavn't, Tavsworth
I have had a druid and a paladin in WoW for years and I just go back and forth between their names for tavs, using my druid for women and my pally for men. Is it weird having saves from four different campaigns all with the same tav name? Yes, but itās how I do it.
I actually have a list of clever names for each class, and take pride in them. I also have "legacy" names from like 20 years ago when I played Ultima Online. Back then, I got sooo many messages about my character name - Nihilist. And when I played Shadowbane, my bard named - Rhythm Method
My favorite character I've seen posted online was 'Weirdal Githyankovic' (Githyanki Bard). I'm currently role-playing Mazzy Fentan as a proper sword & board paladin - which is honestly not my favorite, but I will have justice for Mazzy now that we've got a whole new edition of the world where halflings can be paladins.
Characters I've created, but haven't (yet) played:
I do like the Weird Al reference!
wood elf/half-elf, monk - Spruce Leroy
giant barbarian, since they kick things a lot, I thought of South Park "kick the baby" episode. That character was Kyle Broflovski.
any druid - Tickmagnet
My wife went for her newest creation with the modded, phb 2024 gunslinger: Gundalf...
My current character is a tiefling named Tieffany. It's like Tiffany but tiefling wordplay.
"I am Munchies Schmopenis"
Iāve started to use JK Rowlings rejected minority names to based my character. Like Emmy Grantz or Imat Arotist.
Loved my Gith monk named KaāPow
My bf and I made a Dragonborn warlock in Honor Mode. Her name was Dracobitties. She died so we made DracobittiesToo, she also met her untimely demise so we made DracobittiesThreeD, she was not to be the one. We finally have made it to the third act with our current Tav, DracobittiesFourEva.
I named my first character lile myself and the second one like myself + a 2
