She'd still call female Gale a third son.
She actually says "third child" in-game, so it works.
So she did! My bad!
She starts off by explaining what happens to "every subsequent male-born child." It's so funny to me because it's one of the only times the game acknowledges trans people, and the context is Minthara being a menace.
Makes me wonder, would Drow consider like a MtF person to be a blessing from Lolth?
Gale lovers…I understand you now.
Edit: I’m willing to concede Male Gale in the Wavemother dress is extremely breedable
Yeah same.
You only understand if you're drawn to the 'tism. Otherwise you just like hot brunette gals, not Gayle.
you just like hot brunette gals
Damn, not many fall into that category
No, you don't. Until you love him being male and put a nice dress on him, you won't understand the sexiness of that stupid sexy wizard
Minthara's ass is almost enough to distract me from whatever transdimensional magic fem!Gale is casting on that book's perspective.
Or "That time Gale killed an ogre and found a belt" ?
people would go rabid if gale was a woman, i think
Implying that people are not already rabid for Gale as a man
This community always makes Minthara look 80% less fucking psycho than she is lol
I wish someone would bend my gender
There are options for that.

Your gender already is whatever you say it is, you're probably talking about wanting to bend your presentation or sex, both of which are also entirely possible.
Weak, he did not need genderbent to wear such an outfit to the beach.
Maybe if this was cannon Minthara would be less mean to Gale (Gale would still be a Wizard after all)
Romance Minthara as origin Gale.
The irony is only outmatched by the appropriateness.
Oh I’m definitely going to try that
It's got vibes to go with it. Feels like lines like this wouldn't be that out of place.
"Foolish wizard! You will get yourself killed. You will need a drow noblewoman's guidance to keep your head firmly upon your shoulders."
"Excuse me barkeeper, my wizard has requested his meal without the addition of pickled cucumbers. Set it right if you would."
"This Mystra knows not what she has discarded. Even the gods it seems can be fools that don't have an eye for finer things."
There’s this then there’s her comments about Gale being a third son
I’m gonna say it, regular gale is hotter than genderbent gale
My kingdom for a fem!Gale that actually looks like a female version of Gale — a mom-aged bookworm who's secretly inexplicably shredded.
you can't fool me i can tell from the texture of the coloring that the original was nude
Hella ass. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.
Mod authors! Do your magic and my life is yours!
Bro, that’s been a mod for a while now. Search “Gale Pal” on nexus. You can have the entire camp be your harem if you want
I'm a lesbian and there are no men in my camp lol
Why
Why not?
Wait, Trans Gale is Mystra?!
Minthara: "I am not going to the beach with you, Wizard. To think I'd sully my reputation by being seen in scant attire with an obvious 3rd son..."
Gale: "What if I made myself a woman?"
Minthara: "... You have my attention, Gale..."
"Now will you date me?"
"Oh Gale, I hate you for your lack of wits not your lack of tits!"
Jokes aside, the art's fantastic and I like it a lot.
Gale Dekarius of Waterdeep is precious in any gender. Currently romancing him in my first Durge...or at least the one that got that far. I do wish we could see fem Gale or someone like them/with a similar personality.
Maybe a male shadowheart too
Give genderbent gale leg hair and my life is yours!!
Oh that is so gorgeous
Yes. Yes. Yes
ew
Now, she only hates Gale for being a Wizard.
Aka Good Gale
If this was in-game character design, I might actually think about not using the particular set of skills (s)he has.
Love this! Minthara looks HOT
I guess Minthara doesn’t have sunlight sensitivity even without the tadpole.
Completely unrelated but I always hated sunlight sensitivity being put on a player character. It changes how the entire campaign goes so if you don’t have a party that is okay with going out only at night you kinda mess up how the game is played simply because I wanted to be a dark elf. It just feels bad for no reason reason
I completely agree. I was actually so relieved when I found out the Underdark races don’t have Sunlight sensitivity in BG3.
They do. Just the playable characters lack it.
Iirc its the tadpole. Same way it stops Astarion from becoming Ashtarion
I'm just built different
Eh I think there's enough ways to get around it. It's specifically "direct sunlight" so a shade, particularly cloudy sky and being indoors shouldn't trigger it.
And don't forget about Half Elf with Drow heritage. You still get the Drow look and their spells without the debuff. The only downsides are not getting Superior Darkvision (you still have the normal one) and no Drow Weapon training. Oh and your character can only live for 180 years instead of 750 but campains aren't ever that long, it only matters for the epilogue I guess or maybe if you're making a time skip in the same universe and want a cameo 500 years later as an NPC in the new campain.
I might be a jaded old man who started out in 2nd Ed, but they 100% should have sunlight sensitivity. Drow aren't meant to be on the surface: they are hated, feared and reviled by surfacers.
The drow being hated has nothing to do with their inability to function properly on the surface world. You can have a world where the drow are a hated people and I will accept that as a player for roleplay opportunity but I don’t want the gameplay to slow down just because I want to be a dark elf. Like, yes, it makes sense they would have sunlight sensitivity but if I’m able to drop my suspension of disbelief enough to accept magic is okay in this world then I can ignore the fact that a subterranean people would struggle in the sun.
I think magic sunglasses should be part of every drow's starting equipment.
Discuss it with your DM or house rule it yourself if you are DM.
I stand by my statement that sunlight sensitivity is a very valid roleplay and gameplay element. You ever go prawning and see what happens when you pull up a bunch of prawns from 300ft below the surface? You better believe they have sunlight sensitivity. Their eyes literally get burned out by the sun.
I’m fine with it as a roleplay element but I don’t want to be forced to avoid combat outside during the day or suffer having disadvantage on every single attack.
And again, I’m already suspending my disbelief for the whole magical world thing. It’s easier to imagine that the prawns eyes don’t burn away in the sun than it is to imagine magically conjuring an explosion at someone’s feet.
I fully understand why you feel the way you do though. If I came off as calling your opinion as invalid that wasn’t my intention. I just feel like it slows gameplay down way to much for me to want to actually deal with it
You aren't. You can choose a race that doesn't have sunlight sensitivity. But what you really probably want is the benefits like superior darkvision without the balancing offsets like sunlight sensitivity.
No, I don’t care about the superior dark vision. It’s 60 more feet of sight, it is not significant in the least. And you actually do bring up a good point. None of the extra “benefits” are actually significant enough to combat the sunlight sensitivity. The additional stuff they get sucks ass.
I just want the ability to play a dark elf without having to sacrifice my ability to effectively be part of a team that doesn’t rotate around my characters schedule.
How annoying would it be to have a surprise combat but then the drow player can’t hit a single time. Either that or the dm has to have every single outdoor combat be in the shade or during night.
Play how you want with your group.
But I think it's funny that you actively try to avoid roleplay for aesthetics.
Again, it’s not the roleplay I have an issue with. It’s the mechanics. You can roleplay being sensitive to the sun without being completely useless in it. It’s unfun to have a combat where you have to roll at disadvantage the entire time.
My issue isn’t that it is a thing lore wise, it’s that the mechanic is actively unfun. It’s not like it’s a vampire situation where it’s a drawback for a lot of good abilities. You get better dark vision and that’s about it.
If they're from the underdark I think they should be, but if they're an underdark race born and raised on the surface I think it's fine to let people not have it.
I don't mind it too much in Pathfinder, but that system has a lot of ways to mitigate sunlight sensitivity fairly well. Would probably be a different story if my group weren't so collaboration-focused though.
Yeah it’s a home brew moment.
That just gives disadvantage on attack rolls in direct sun. It's not like they burn, they're not Vampires.
And why do you think they have disadvantage in direct sunlight? Probably because they feel uncomfortable. That’s the point of roleplaying (to me at least). It’s not just a debuff, it’s a trait you can build a backstory around. Sure, they won’t die in the sun. But you’ll probably never see a Drow sunbathing because it makes them feel uneasy.
Fair point. It's actually night and the sun is female Gale's illusion.
Jokes on you. She can't see shit.
Just gotta layer on that sunscreen.
