But genuine question, am I the only one who's getting love confessions as early as Act 1? Laezel already confessed her love (turned her down, took it horribly), I had a moment with Gale showing me magic, and Astarion is acting weird. Is this normal? I feel like these relationships are going way too fast.
Is nun with a gun supposed to be Shadowheart or your Tav?
My Tav, I'm a cleric
Eyyyyy me too. I read online that it's statistically the least chosen class in Baldur's Gate 3. I always did like being the healer
Really? I'm having fun so far! If you know how to use your abilities, your cleric can carry your team easy.
Oh, it was great. Cleric has a ton of fun offensive abilities too
I think Shadowheart being a popular companion factored into it, but I went in blind so I didn't know another companion was a cleric. But having two clerics in the party helped a lot in certain points
Heck yeah I finished honor mode playing a cleric, sometimes with Shads in the party as well, double cleric beat down!
i think a part of that is that on follow up playthroughs, everyone knows s/heart will be pushed into the party, anyway.
Not if you make her face the consequences for threatening Lazel.
And while I had to respect Wyll into a bardlock just for healing word, camp feels much more peaceful without the presence of religious fanatic rambling about how she dreams of bringing on the heat death of the universe.
yeah, i'm not talking about you. i'm talking about why in general cleric is so uncommon for tav, and that is because most people make their tav expecting to have shadowheart in their party to fill the cleric role.
not every post on reddit needs a personal anecdote contra-example to generalities. and nobody cares how much you hate shadowheart.
Unfortunately I think that's just people.
"it's not good to be lit on fire!"
"Oh yeah? Well what about this one time where I was cold?"
For the right role play, it's fun to not force the characters to get along.
I should have put /s on there, which is on me. Sorry for bringing irritation to your day when it was intended to be banter.
Edit: actually genuinely sorry. I re-read that and with the wrong tone it sounds like I'm being a resentful little shit.
I'm failing all my charisma checks today. 😅
i'm also not talking about any specific example, and speaking in general that in most peoples playthroughs that shadowheart will be a cleric and therefore tav will likely not, bringing us back to the statistic that cleric is the least played class for tav.
No, I hear you. And I especially agree for most replays.
Even compared to DnD beyond statistics for class choices, cleric is less favored in bg3.
However, with the exception of paladin and sorcerer, all of the classes represented in the origin characters are still more popular than bard, druid, monk, or ranger. If it were strictly that people didn't like to play repeated roles, fighters and rogues wouldn't be so popular.
Though I do wonder how much it is for society to naturally see clerics as support only characters being unworthy of main character energy, when the majority of us play single player. As a DnD player, cleric often gets an unfair rep for being the "someone's got to be the healer class" since it's always multiplayer, which could be inflating the DnD beyond numbers.
Come to think of it, I don't know many RPGs where the hero is a primary healing class, period.
I'm currently playing as a halfling Light Cleric.
Although to be fair, I also have mods on so I have the expanded party limit mod on because I want everyone to be included in my adventures.
I have Shadowheart as a Death Domain cleric
Somehow, I thought it was the Astarion ranger build. Nvm
Is Fiona Karlach or Lae’zel?
Yeah it's normal. BG3 isn't really like some RPGs where the game gives you a sex scene right at the end as a reward. Some party members are DTF right away and others are slower burns.
Honestly I like the way BG3 handles it, as you said in most games the romance feels like a reward at the end of the game. In BG3 it feels like a continuing experience from Act 1 to Act 3, and the storylines feel a lot more satisfying as a result.
I like the flip. Traditionally romances are a game long courtship with sex or acknowledge or whatever at the end as a reward for it all. I play a lot of party based RPGs and I can't think of one off the top of my head, besides BG3, that flips the script. A lot start with the banging and move forward into the relationship aspect while the game is still going. I really like it.
The downside is the 'BG3 companions all just want to bang you' thing which is a necessity to kickstart the romance design. It doesn't allow for a slower build up.
It's not weird for Lae'zel to put out that fast. There's an entire speed run category "sex%" with a current record of 112 seconds to "romance" Lae'zel.
Don't dance with wyll when he offers, unless you want to romance him.. You might think it's platonic, I promise you he doesn't.
As I saw someone say once, the companions are Tavsexual. They all (unless you deliberately avoid it) are interested in you at one point or another. But, they all take no for an answer (most of the time)
I spent the whole first run like "Guys, we're trying to save the world here and not turn into Mindflayers. Can you all stop trying to fuck me for 5 seconds and focus on the mission?"
Wdym most of the time?? When they don't?
Minthara asks you like three extra times if you turn down her relationship offer after recruiting her.
Tav: "Sorry, I'm with someone"
Minthara: 'Yes, but now you can have ME' as if explaining to a 5 year old
I had a similar problem with Gale in my first playthrough. He tried multiple times; I told him no every time. Yet, at the end of Act 2, when I started officially dating Shadowheart, he got mad and gave me an ultimatum to choose between him and her. I think they toned him down after because it never happened again.
Oh ok, I didn't romance minthara cuz I didn't wanna betray the elfs
Referencing an old bug with Gale. Back when the game came out sometimes he'd bug and decide you were dating now even if you said no. Usually, when you see a Gale hater, that bug is why
Delusinal gale💀💀 just like me lol
Try to romance Shadowheart. It won't be so fast
Everyone knows who is who
You’re going to be excellent at calculating numbers
Expected to see Jimmy Hendrix as Wyll
I was honestly unsure if Fiona was supposed to be Karlak or Lae'zel at first. I spent way to long thinking about it.
I think the Gale thing gets misinterpreted, even if you do think about romance with him, he's caught off guard. It's an intimate moment sure, but intimate =/= romance.
I got gale to confess at act 2 I don't even know why like I never tried to attract him
He’s a twilight vampire. Unlike the glorious Bodhi from the past.
this group is full of weirdos and that´s why we love them.
All you have to do is treat some of your companions like people with dignity, take them seriously and they will fall at your feet. Traumatised babies, most of them.
Who's gun nun?
If you thought your party was clingy now, you should have played during the launch.
Gale was especially horny for you.
> Laezel already confessed her love
her love, lol, sure, "githyanki girlfriend", right?
otherwise solid meme
Lae'zel didn't confess her love, she just wants to fuck. She's very clear its a fling, the love part comes if you keep it going.
And yes, the romances begin act 1 for the origin companions. If you don't like them, turn them down. They will never ask again. And they don't all want sex act 1, only Lae'zel and Astarion do.
Correct me if I'm wrong but Karlach kinda wants it too, she's just unable to touch you
Yeah, that's true. She jumpsnyour bones the moment she gets the chance to if you're romancing her.
I really want to do so, but I'm playing my own IRL alignment— chaotic neutral so I'm bangin' big L and Karlach is in slight disapproval now. On my other playthrough she jokes it off, but I started as a good aligned cleric and I hated the gameplay but bless is so OP. Much prefer playing as myself IE a wizard of some sort doing what I would do IRL in-game. I'm also a necro and just got my first skelly boy.
How do you actually pursue Karlach? I read that you have to respond very specifically to her in Act 1.
Lae’zel changes a bit in act 3.
Just a tad bit lol. It's the cutscene you'd never see coming in a million years based on the Act 1 Lae'zel, and it's why her arc is my favorite overall.
Exactly. I think I have romanced her more than others. In my most current run, we had a bit of a disagreement about how to address her god, and we had to sadly part ways.
Lae’zel died in my playthrough and it’s a single save, looking forward already to my next playthrough, I think I’ll go for an all gith or mostly Gith party just for Lae’zel.
Not sure how to do more than two (maybe a hireling? I don’t remember if any of those are Gith). I have done quite a few Lae’zel romance runs. They are quite gratifying.
Thanks! Still, I found it super odd because she has disapproved of many of my decisions, so I thought she'd be the last companion to do that.
If you do something impressive with her around it fast tracks her interest in you. She likes bold action above all. I normally get the proposition after fighting the Owlbear.
She really is one of the easiest companions to max out affinity with. She was practically maxed after the creche even though I made like every choice that pissed her off.
A bunch of her approvals for the creche quest are worth 5 or 10 points, so you have to pretty much deliberately piss her off at every turn to outweigh that. All the options to let her speak for the party are big approval gains as well, and I usually let her do that because it's just easier.
Lae'zel has low standards. If you impress her in battle and she likes you a little bit, that's enough.
That doesn't sound like low standards to me. Id be pretty smitten if a baddie impressed me in battle too. Im with Lae'zel on this one.
Lae'zel is down bad. She propositioned my Tav after I resolved the first major story questline (keeping it vague in case you still haven't gotten there.) I had my sights on Gale, so I had to turn her down
Lae'Zel is somewhere between a Tsundere and a hierarchy-sexual. She approves of you standing up to her and approves even more when you take charge.
Basically if she thinks you are not a useless sack of crap you should bang.
Romance isn't really in her language right now.
If you’re playing a good-aligned character, Lae’zel is pretty hard to accrue approval with until you reach her people’s creche. Impress her there, and you’ll suddenly be her favorite person pretty much
Yeah she and Astarion tend to disapprove a lot of "good guy" things, but they're also the quickest and easiest to bang since the approval spikes you can get in the early going are massive and specific to them.
Minthara will sex you six ways from Sunday in act 1! Not sure if she counts as an origin character though…
She does not. Only the six (seven if you count Durge, but they're not a companion) you can choose at the beginning of the game do, which is why I used the moniker.
