Can you give instructions as to the steps taken? I’m a nanny and always looking for fun activities involving kid science!

Super_Culture_1986 OP

Sure! Take a large glass and fill it with water, then add a pinch of salt, and place it over a bright light like a smartphone flashlight, finally slowly add a spoonful of turmeric powder... Enjoy 😉🙂

As an American I saw torch and was expecting a way more intense ending to that show.

Very cool though.

I'm in the comments right now trying to find out why torch was in the title because I saw no flames.

A torch in the UK is a flashlight in the united states.

More_Raisin_2894

I had to watch it twice to see the phone flashlight on.

Does the salt go in the water or mixed with the turmeric?

Super_Culture_1986 OP

It must be put in the water before the turmeric separately

HelloAttila

Makes the water brackish 😂

I sat here way too long trying to work out how loaded you must be to chuck that much yellow in there. Then I finally realised I was thinking of saffron

What music/song is this? Is it from that decade old SRK film?

Super_Culture_1986 OP

The song is Main Agar Kahoon by Sonu Nigam & Shreya Ghoshal, from "Om Shanti Om" movie (2007), with SRK correct.

DidntChooseMyOwnName

It sounds like the Westworld theme

Fuzzy_Muscle

Does it work with oil?

Super_Culture_1986 OP

No, because oil is non-polar substance, so it would float, and even if you mixed it with water, the oil would always remain on the surface (water is in fact a polar substance).

Torch as in candle or flash light?

Super_Culture_1986 OP

The second one.

That-Complaint-224

What do you do with the torch?

thisothernameth

The glass is standing on the phone torch / flash light to illuminate the spectacle in a dark room.

Super_Culture_1986 OP

If you watch the video carefully there's the smartphone flashlight under the glass, which illuminates the water and makes the turmeric powder shine.
