Hope they are near enough to land

An adult polar bear can swim for days. They float easily without doing anything because of all their fat and hollow hair. I don't think this is far from land with all those small boats around. They'll be fine. The people in the boats are probably in more danger if they get any closer.

Seriously, I wouldn't have gotten anywhere near that close to a mama and her cubs. Polar bears absolutely will kill you.

Agreed. I was a zookeeper who briefly worked with an amazing polar bear who was extremely elderly and at the end of her life. She absolutely would have eaten me with no hesitation, and this is an extremely old, extremely well cared for and who was born in human care. I would never want to meet on in the wild.

Rare-Cockroach-4979

Thatā€˜s not whats so evil. They plot against each other. They are so intelligent, they will gather in groups and set up a trap to jump another dolphin couple, drown the male and then they rape the female.

Even ducks do similar shit. I was on a walk and I saw a a duck holding another duck down with his beak around her neck while another duck tried raping her.

senorpuma

What’s really crazy is people do that shit.

nutcracker_78

It's not only ducks, other poultry do the same. We had six hens and two roosters - one full grown, the other rooster was still young. His hormones hit and all he wanted to do was jump on the hens, who were all devoted to the other rooster and would scream if the young one came near them, which meant the old boy would come running and beat the crap out of the younger one. Then one day I noticed that we only had five hens, and thought maybe a fox had got one or something. Another day or two passes, and I realise the young rooster isn't as obsessed with the other hens, he didn't seem as desperate and horny, he was relaxed and happy.

So I followed him .. and found the dead hen. No idea what killed her, whether old age or if she'd been sick or whatever, but safe to say her corpse had been violated by the young one many many times. He was so content, so happy that he finally had a girl that wouldn't scream in panic if he came near, and the older wasn't beating him up for trying to get his rocks off.

I was devastated. It went against all my feelings and morals as a human, and yes I did rescue the poor dead hen from her necrophiliac lover, much to his disappointment.

Imagine polar bears adapt to warmer weather start to show up in more populated places

Boostie204

This is literally already happening, in Canada at least. Ice caps are melting, not enough land to hunt on so polar bears are coming further south. There are now hybrid "pizzly" bears, polar bears crossed with grizzlies.

Sehrli_Magic

Pizzly does not sound nowegre near dangerous enough for a polar bear offspring! I have seen cases years ago when these were not previously documented and they called it a "grolar bear"...i though grolar bear fits the ferocious polar bear + grizzly nature....pizzly is making me want to laugh my ass off at them (until i get beheaded i guess)

Boostie204

Being hybrids, I think they do look a tiny bit derpy so maybe pizzly isn't so inaccurate

verbrand24

Few things, of all the bears polar bears are the scariest. One of the best ways to get attacked by a bear is to go near a mother bears cubs. Polar bears are fantastic swimmers. So much so that they have been documented swimming down and killing literal whales.

Besides you know disturbing animals, scaring off their prey if they are hunting with your boat, or whatever else. One good surge, and that mother bear is coming into that boat, or bringing you into the water. Neither is a place you want to be with a polar bear.

kinglex612

The water being cold is ABSOLUTELY the least of their worries. They're polar bears. Exhaustion/drowning or starvation is probably the much grander concern here.

Regulator_24

There is clearly land visible in the background. Polar Bears are buoyant. They float for days. They store fat for much longer. The bears are not in any distress or discomfort. The only concern is humans being humans and running towards the sight of fire.
