Frankly, the fact that only 2 legal states did any kind of clemency and mass-release for non-violent cannabis offenses - and that no one cares that’s poor people still rotting in cells next to rich white nepo babies opening up dispensaries… and no one talks about it.. is everything one needs to know about US justice.

we are 3% of world population and over 20% of worlds prison population.

Just think of the millions of people who have had their lives destroyed since "The War on Drugs", and their families, and the huge expense involved, and judges and attorneys and prison guards and damn, it's really overwhelming (and ongoing).

There was a former police officer who specialized in highway drug interdictions. He eventually married a hippie, started smoking weed, and sold a of “Don’t get busted” tapes on late night tv, giving tips to not get busted by the police with drugs. He went through former dash cam videos of himself talking about what he was looking for in a traffic stop and how he regretted arresting people for weed.

Kind of like blaming the average german soldier for the holocaust.

This guy was a police captain. He simply enforced the law, not create it.

I can see the irony but it really doesn’t apply here.

That’s how it is now, in states where medicinal is legal. But in states where it’s not you can still be cited or arrested for it.

And it wasn’t that long ago when simple possession was an automatic trip to jail in all 50 states.

I bet he arrested a LOT of people for weed.

I don’t wanna spoil it and I also admit I haven’t done much research. But somehow I am kinda skeptical about this. The man was having serious problems and just four minutes later he’s perfectly fine after just taking ONE DROP? Is there anyone else who has more knowledge on this, especially people who have had personal experiences or has investigated this topic, that could shine a bit of light on this issue?

jeebus87

The term "one drop" is misleading. A single drop of a low-potency CBD oil is vastly different from a drop of a highly concentrated, medical-grade THC oil. The man in the video likely used a very potent THC tincture, where a single drop could contain a significant, fast-acting dose of THC.

The man placed the drop underneath his tongue. This is called sublingual administration. It allows the THC to be absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the rich network of capillaries there. This method bypasses the digestive system and liver, leading to a much faster onset of effects than swallowing an edible. While 4 minutes is on the faster end of the spectrum, a rapid effect within 5-15 minutes is plausible with this method.

This is the most stunning part of the video, but there is a scientific basis for it. The brain has an endocannabinoid system that helps regulate many functions, including motor control. Parkinson's disease involves the malfunction of dopamine-producing neurons, which disrupts this motor control. THC interacts directly with the ECS. For some individuals, a potent dose of THC can temporarily help to modulate the neurological signaling that causes severe tremors. The Important Reality Check is that this is not a typical or guaranteed result. It represents a best-case scenario for a specific individual.

This is temporary symptom relief, not a cure. The underlying neurodegenerative disease is not being reversed. The effects will wear off.

For every anecdotal success story, there are many patients who experience no benefit from THC. Scientific studies on THC for Parkinson's have shown mixed and often modest results.

THC is not benign. It can cause significant side effects, especially in older adults, including confusion, paranoia, anxiety, dizziness, and impaired judgment. This can dramatically increase the risk of falls, which is already a major concern for Parkinson's patients.

What worked for the man in the video could be dangerous for another person. The type of product, the concentration, the dose, and the potential interaction with other Parkinson's medications are all factors that require a doctor's supervision. So, to answer your question: It is plausible that a man with Parkinson's could experience a rapid, temporary reduction in tremors from a potent, sublingual dose of THC. However, the video doesn't show the full picture; the potential side effects, the temporary nature of the relief, and the fact that this result is the exception, not the rule. Your skepticism is well-founded because these "miracle" videos can create unrealistic hope and overlook the very real risks involved.

ussrname1312

None of those are significant side effects. You might as well have added "appetite increase" to the list.

I have my personal experiences using pharmaceuticals vs cannabis for my epilepsy, if that's okay? It's the only thing I've found that stops my grand mal seizures so I just get a migraine, and if I'm having a hemiplegic migraine, cannabis will ease it. I feel relief in 3-5 minutes. I've been on depakote, lamotrigine, topiramate, keppra. But for some reason, for me, cannabis works well and it works FAST.

dope-eater

Sorry but I don’t understand what you’re trying to say. Could you please elaborate?

Snappy5454

You can’t patent marijuana. So pharma has fought tooth and nail to prevent its use. They have alternatives that are legal and patented that they overcharge through the medical system, since doctors can’t go through insurance for marijuana, plus it’s illegal many places.

AbacusExpert_Stretch

He essentially said: „it (often?) works exactly like that“ - which is why pharmaceutical industry wants to keep lid on.

If I may add something: even if it often (?!) works like that - then it will be the case for that type of patient with exactly (more or less) the same ailments. At least in my mind that’s the case ….

But one can hope that it will be used/tested more.

Another_Samurai1

If people knew cannabis can heal a lot of illnesses and people return to cannabis instead of big Pharma big farmer would lose money therefore we’re gonna make cannabis illegal says big Pharma.

IFixYerKids

If cannabis healed a lot of illnesses, big pharma would monotize the shit out of it.

Worldly_Address6667

How? If it was legal people would just grow it themselves. For most of these people, one plant would give them enough, plus have enough to sell or just give away.

IFixYerKids

There's plenty of drugs that are illegal for you and me to have, but are perfectly legal to make medicine out of. It would be the same deal.

SkyAny9159

Isn't it a pain to grow enough to support a habit?

Worldly_Address6667

If it was between spending hundreds or thousands a month for meds for Parkinsons, or learning how to grow a plant, I'd pick the plant all day. Or I would just go down to the weed shop and buy some drops or whatever.

And I have a buddy who used to grow his own. It wasn't too hard, I mean it grows naturally. You can put a ton of effort into growing high quality stuff, or you can chuck some seeds on the ground and wait

SkyAny9159

Throw down seeds and wait doesn't grow great quality, so I assumed it wouldn't work for this situation.

ParkieDude

Ask him how he is sleeping.

For me, zero day time use as my balance sucks.

Nighttime, I take a gummy 5mg 5mg 5mg of CBD, CBN, and THC, it's just enough so I drift off and get 6 hours of deep sleep. For years, I only slept three hours a night (horrible, as memory doesn't go into long-term memory). It's like I remember the kids when they were little... boom, it still blows me away; they are all in their 30s now.

I got arrested for smoking weed once. It was INSANE. I was seen no different than a real criminal and had to do much to get it erased from my history. Nothing malicious from their end, but explain that to someone you are with.

mukadekawa

From Parkinson.org : “The endocannabinoid system is located in the brain and made up of the endocannabinoids (molecules in our body that act on the cannabinoid receptors) and cannabinoid receptors (a molecular switch on the outside of a cell that makes something happen inside a cell when activated) on neurons (brain cells). The endocannabinoid system helps regulate many functions, including memory, pleasure, concentration, movement, appetite, and pain.”

The site also lists some studies into various aspects of medical marijuana and its relation to tics and other movement disorders.

Edit: my buddy lives in Michigan and gets the best concentrates around and nothing compared to the meds he’s on.
