Peak offseason posting here, but it's 4 AM here and I'm running on fumes trying to do my finals so my brain isn't thinking too straight. Basically, if you time the final chorus to "This Disaster" (which is longer than the first chorus) just right, the lyrics seem to play in sync with the clips and pics on the menu if your favorite team is set as the Bears or if you hover over them in Play Now.
Maybe it's just because I'm a New Found Glory fan and a Bears fan who played Madden 05 religiously, but I was surprised when I was dicking around on the menu when I was younger and found that this song worked pretty well with the Bears' clips. I tried experimenting with other teams and they didn't fit this well.
Of course, it's not 100% lined up and the timing gets a bit funky with the cuts to Mike Brown and Todd McMillon. For the most part, however, the shots timed with the lyrics pretty well like Urlacher moving at the word "go" and the last drum fill as McMillon's image flickers.
A reminder of when madden was good, the Bears were feared, and life was simpler. Good luck on your finals and 🐻⬇️ friend
Literally the last great Madden game ever made
I remember putting my high school team's plays into the playbook and then dominating with it because they were actual plays and not "4 hooks" or "run it up the gut"
I picked a mobile quarterback and played our shotgun system with boot leg rolls, check down, audibles
This was the best time I ever had playing madden
Imported and drafted almost all of my graduating players from NCAA, got Grossman up to 99 and won 7 straight Super Bowls on easy mode with off-sides deactivated. Oh, the memories.
Does it?
I think OP was hitting the hallucination point of sleep deprivation
Madden has been on a steady decline ever since EA cornered the football game market so now they can copy and paste the same game every year with a few tweaks you don't even notice. These old school menus alone used to get you pumped to play as your favorite team, not to mention the awesome soundtracks we used to get.
NFL Street 1 and 2 are both way more fun football games than any Madden that has been released over the last decade and a half
Heck, I'd settle for a main menu that doesn't throw a full-screen popup begging you to buy Ultimate Team packs.
The biggest surprise to me is that the president of music at EA who was in charge of the excellent soundtracks most EA titles had in the 2000s is the same guy in charge of their current titles where 80% of the soundtrack is mediocre SoundCloud rappers they scraped off the wall
Nostalgia bomb
Was this disaster on the soundtrack or is this a moment of inspiration
It's on the soundtrack
Man we really used to have it so good
Ah Rex Grossman. Why he started the Super Bowl remains an eternal mystery.
Put some respec on Sex Grossman's name.
Who played Madden 2005 when there was NFL 2K5?
05 was objectively the best madden ever made.
Only good 2K football games were on Dreamcast.
2K5 was the best and it was on XBox and PS2.
Wasn't that the awkward one with David Arquette and Carmen Electra?
Literally everyone but you lol
I’d love to know how many people who downvoted me weren’t even actually playing football video games in 2005.
Because if you were playing football video games in 2005, you know 2K5 was a better game and that’s why EA got the exclusivity deal.
Bro we all were playing football video games in 2005... Madden has been the most popular football game since it's release. I remember the early 2000s very clearly. You're allowed to have your preference but Madden has been the game and 2K was never as popular
Madden was not more popular than Tecmo Bowl and Tecmo Super Bowl on NES in the late 80s/early 90s.
Madden emerged on the Sega Genesis beyond its PC roots. That’s when it really blew up. True it is the most popular football game, but it wasn’t always. On the genesis, Sega was making its own game. The Joe Montana series (which became Deion Sanders) made good games. EA actually did the first Joe Montana game but intentionally made it inferior to their own game. But Sega got better at at making NFL games.
EA stopped making games for Sega after the Saturn flopped. And when Sega did the Dreamcast, they had Visual Concepts make sports games under the 2K name. I had the Dreamcast and played the first couple NBA and NFL games on that system. But that system flopped too and Sega put the games on other systems before selling Visual Concepts and 2K to Take Two.
And 2K kept doing the NFL game. And they were better than Madden despite Madden selling much more units. And in 04, Sega priced NFL 2K at $19.99 which ate into EA’s Madden sales.
2K forced EA to bring its A game and since EA bought exclusivity with the NFL, it’s been releasing half assed Madden after half assed Madden.
So if you think Madden 2005 as great, did they keeping being great?
Maybe you played both 🙄 but it’s been 21 years since the games came out. How many of the people who down voted me actually played 2K5 in its day?
NBA 2K shows what happened when companies push EA to the brink.
Back when Madden was actually playable 🥲
Really up until 2008 with Vince Young blessing the cover. After that it was let's keep removing feature after feature. Then reintroduce it as NEW AND EXCITING! 5 years later, still a shell of its former capability.
Yep, 06~08 was peak for me
Probably one of the best features that I liked in '07 was the parents DNA dictated. What type of archetype your max potential was. Along with your base stats.
Dad was an NFL wide receiver, mom was an Olympic sprinter with a PHD! I’d shuffle for hours until I got my ideal combo. I think 06 did it too but you couldn’t choose your own appearance with the DNA, made it a much longer experience.
Even 2010 was playable albeit difficult with the bears secondary 😬
