Selfishly my biggest concern is whether him and Hoge will continue to do some sort of show together.
I'm guessing chgo and they will have a show together.
They've both moved jobs plenty of times during the run of Hoge and Jahns. I'm sure it'll keep going.
It seems like they own their own show, not sure if it’s tied to the Atlantic or not
The athletic has sponsored it for a long time now, but I would agree that the show predated that sponsorship and there is a big chance it is still owned by H+J.
Part of the benefit of the show was tapping into athletic beat writers for other teams. Not to mention Dane Brugler at draft season. H&J is a good listen but nowadays they do 60% of the show reminiscing about the past.
The Athletic is withering away. If I didn't get such a heavy discount I'd no longer be a subscriber.
That's one of my takeaways here too. This really just leaves Fishbain as the main contributor there.
Maybe this forces the Fishman to make an actual Bears podcast instead of a navel-gazing meta podcast about sports reporters.
Heaven forbid Fishbain do something that he's fascinated by and enjoys
I kinda disagree here. There's like 50 different bears podcasts and he's on Hoge and Jahns like 25% of the time. I'm glad he's doing something a little bit unique in the podcast space.
And there's been some really interesting stuff. I'm not a sports person. I watch the Bears and some hockey, that's it. But his podcast is really fun to listen to even when I have no idea who the guest is.
Please don’t go to CHGO. Hoge already has to switch off two-thirds of his brain to deal with Carm and Braggs, don’t make Jahns do the same.
It’s amazing that Carm recently got a contract extension yet people actively don’t listen to the myriad of content strictly because of him.
Carm is walking ragebait for some, and “the voice of the people” for others.

Plenty of fans have a generally negative view of the team so to them Carm is the realist. Now I personally am an optimist (hope springs eternal and all that), but if someone was just basing their opinion on what the Bears have actually accomplished they wouldn’t be totally in the wrong to not expect much.

Money talks, so if the data said Carm was costing them money he’d be gone.
That being said - I don’t mind him in general, since a balancing opinion can be worth it sometimes. I just don’t feel like he brings much to the show. He’s basically like Bizarro Braggs (or I guess Braggs would be Bizarro Carm since Carm was there first); they’re just two sides of the meatball coin, except Carm seems to think he isn’t a meatball because he’s got a generally negative outlook.

It was right around the time they fired Nicholas Moreano. Carm was bragging about it and a week later they axed half the company.
Yikes....I don't root for people to lose their jobs, but I just don't understand what value he brings. He doesn't have a very in depth knowledge of the game from a technical stand point or a good grasp on the fan base. I legit stopped listening to CHGO because of him.
He tries to both the overly-self-confident schtick and the self-deprecating schtick, sometimes within the same sentence and it’s really annoying. Just comes off as trying too hard to be funny.
Carm is like Stephan A Smith. Literally no one likes him, but for some reason his ratings are high. It’s truly an anomaly for me.
Dang, that's big news. Love reading his stuff and I'm very curious to see where he ends up. Really hope this doesn't mean the end of the Hoge & Jahns pod. It is so, so soooo, so so much better than the CHGO podcast with that loudmouth Carm sucking up all the air in the room.
Just saw he updated his bio to remove the senior writer at the athletic part but kept the hoge and jahns podcast portion in. Hopefully that means they keep the show going

The Fish Man's articles are still great. A lot of people hate him and think he's a snarky dickhead but I also love Greenberg's stuff
Greenberg is so good at emotionally capturing how the Chicago teams feel. His articles on the White Six last year were incredible.
I think it's why The Athletic's comment section hates him so much. They know he's right lol. There's a "Same Old Bears" theme to a lot of his articles that folks don't particularly appreciate either.

They razz him on H&J all the time, but my conspiracy for a while has been that Jahns has been so slow and soft on criticizing the Bears because he wants Larry Mayer's cushy job when he retires.

I’ve thought the same he’s always been the more delicate one about what he says. He also broke the Nagy hire I believe so he def has had legit sources inside Halas unlike plenty of bears reporters

I mean CHGO probably has an open-door policy towards journalists of Jahns’ caliber that I don’t think it took long for them to get an agreement together. Big step down from the Athletic, obviously, but not exactly a great time to be an unemployed sports journalist
How do we square CHGO's cuts not that long ago with the idea of paying a guy like Jahns what he's worth?
Oh I bet he’s taking a paycut. I mean this is a lot of speculation, but I’m sure H and J have discussed a contingency like Jahns’ time at the Athletic coming to a close.
I agree with you -- I think it might be a TV spot. He said we might "see" more of him. I read that as view on TV or streaming. Possibly I'm over-reading it, but that was my interpretation.

This is an interesting one. I'd guess one of the radio stations or maybe even the Bears. I'd love for Hoge to take over for Larry Mayer whenever he retires (which has to be somewhat soon I'd imagine).

I'm honestly not sure. I want to say I read something Mayer wrote once where he mentioned starting with the bears in the early 90s or 00s
Jahns is more likely to join a local radio station or chgo, but this is my hope. I think he'd be a good replacement if Mayer was retiring and could offer more than he does now.

Every post involving Chicago Bears podcast in any way end up turning into Carm hate echo chambers. 😂 I just don't get it. I get that some fans just want straight to the point updates on the team but I prefer a mix of personalities and methods of delivery. The hate for carm is the lowest hanging fruit because it's basically a meme at this point.
Braggs, we know you're out there. Spill the beans! Hoge, Jahns, and Braggs. Start CHGO Tennis and let Carm talk aimlessly about whatever nonsense he wants. I don't call for people's heads, so keep Carm employed just take him off the daily pods.

On CHGO today Braggs commented a few times on how Carm was not going to be on the show and that hopefully he’s back soon. Could be completely unrelated, but worth noting.
CHGO is solid filler, especially considering they have a new episode every day. A lot of their stuff you can just forward through, but when they are having realistic, intelligent conversations it’s pretty enjoyable. Braggs I feel like is and has been trying to be a big J journalist so I don’t find him as irritable as others. If Jahns came on and replaced Carm that would certainly be interesting. Honestly if a bag of footballs replaced Carm I would be on board.

He can actually be quite informative and can ask good questions at media events…when he wants to. I feel like he thinks he has to keep up his goofball persona to add another dynamic personality to the show. It gets on my nerves sometimes though lol
Agreed. He was a fill in host for a NBCS Chicago segment and was good at it. It’s when he’s live and goes into his over personal creepy shtick that I just have to tune out.

They called jt quits. Last episode was 11/21/2024 - right before the 7 game losing streak that started with a string of losses by 3 or less to division rivals.

During the season last year it was rough too. Jahn’s thing where he says everyone’s first and last name - especially with someone who you would never confuse with anyone else name - has become absolutely grating to my nerves also.

Moreano is a likeable guy in small doses but the dude was so far from being a polished voice in media.

Carm would be so much better if he was even worse. Does anyone else remember Rosenthal from the Trib? Perennial curmudgeon and Debbie downer, but it was easy to shit on him. Plus, he was often right bc betting against the Bears is usually a good bet. I think Carm feels the pressure to be optimistic, but he should use his off-putting personality to be a full-time punching bag for everyone else. Champion every stupid argument and double down on the pessimism. He doesn't even like football that much, which is perfect for uninformed opinions.

I’m less critical of Braggs because I feel like that’s his role, he’s supposed to represent the fan. I think the issue is that there’s both Karm and Braggs. Gotta have one or the other and personally, I’d prefer Braggs.

He brought it to the Athletic and his cohost is a direct competitor. So hopefully he retained rights to it.
I don’t know that they give up rights, it’s currently an Athletic podcast so I think it’s more of a publishing thing. Cause I doubt it’ll continue to be an Athletic podcast with Jahns leaving.
But if they both work at CHGO, then I can see them doing something similar to bring it onto their feed and drive more people there instead of having a separate channel with 2 CHGO employees at that point.

My impression from listening to Hoge & Jahns is that they tolerate the podcast, more than enjoy it. I can't imagine him wanting to increase the amount of podcasts he has to do, unless they threw a stupid amount of money at him.
