Hi, I am doing a complete gut renovation on my house. The great room has a cathedral ceiling that was never vented and on top of that the roof started leaking. The ceiling was finished with very nice shiplap and when removing it was clear there was mold on the backside. Now the boards are not rotted (I believe they are cedar) but there’s a fair amount of mold. To make things worse I’ve been storing all of the boards in an outbuilding that has mold. The mold on the boards got worse and they are now fuzzed over. I would like to salvage the boards and reuse them but obviously cannot take any chances of introducing mold into the house again. I will be installing deep 10” rafter with proper ventilation at the eaves and ridge and putting a new roof on the house so there will no longer be any moisture present. Would it be advisable to spray these boards down with some concreted peroxide and then prime them with kilz? Even thought about planing them down. Or should I scrap them and buy new.
You already know the answer by asking if you should bring them back into the house.
Mold, ´tis a killer.
