Metal Clad Door needs Dead Bolt.

The back door has needed a Dead Bolt since we moved in 5 years ago. (Other projects came first) I've finally decided it is next on the HoneyDo List.

My problem is that I've not worked with these new 'metal clad' exterior doors, though I have installed locks and deadbolts before.

So, my question is, will I need a special kind of hole saw to get the metal sawed through properly or is there another way to do this?

You should go ahead and get a hole saw meant for steel. They're not that much and will work on wood too when the time comes.

Other than that it pretty much the same as a wood door.

Pretty much what I expected. I was going to buy the door kit, but the hole saw looked a little rough, and I expect that the metal would tear a bit. Thanks!

Metal cutting hole saw and cutting oil. Without the cutting oil, the hole saw is single use.

Purchase a metal cutting holesaw in a diameter specified by the deadbolt instructions. If the door edge is steel as well, you'll need a saw for that too. I like drilling a pilot hole first on one side, then I switch over to the holesaw. As soon as I see the center mandrel drill coming through the opposite side, I stop and finish drilling from that side... makes for a cleaner bore.
