Not just behemoths, all the bugs are too quiet, just today a bile titan crept up on me and I didn't even hear him
The pinnacle of bullshit: I look one way, we're clear. I turn around to make sure I'm not being flanked while I reload, clear. I turn back around, there is now a Bile Titan about a foot shy of completely looming over me with another turning the corner behind it.
Theres mods for it, makes bile titans loud and scary af
Not just bugs, all the heavies are too quiet. Had a tank sneak up on me and domed me point blank was just ridiculous.
for titans is the music, if you hear it there is an agresive titan around
the problem with that is the music is boring and repetitive, The soundtrack in general is like that tbh. Wish they just put in proper sound cues.
The soundtrack is good, but it's small, and as you said it becomes repetitive after a few hours
That's fair I feel like i have that bitch syndrome with it now, I think we are just spoiled with amazing OSTs in coop games like Payday 2 and DRG its hard to compete with those.
Turn around he’s right over top of you.
I started using the Midnight audio mode in game recently, that sort of helped. I definitely heard Bile Titan steps easier.
The only one that has decent audio queues is the stalker. The rest really need something.
I recommend looking around you or the minimap for enemies occasionally. Cuz if you can get sneak attacked by an enemy the size of a house, somethings wrong lol
Yes, something's wrong.
The audio mixing.
Bile titans, chargers and impalers aren't the only bugs that show up as a big red dot, it's super unreliable to go by minimap for identification
Ah yes, theres a red dot behind me, let me just ignore it, oh no I got sneak attacked by (insert bug), who would've known.
I dont care who sneak attacks you, you literally have eyes and a minimap to show you nearby enemies.
If you dont use the tools provided, you are handicapping yourself.
All larger bugs should make more noise but it should be tailored to the surface they're on. Rocky surfaces they make a lot of noise but in snow or sandy terrain they should be more muffled
How will this affect the spear?
It becomes a melee weapon
The game's sound effects are top notch, but the sound design is fucking ABYSMAL.
I can I enemy chatter for hundreds of meters away, but I can't hear any of them behind me .
The fact that hunter leaping sounds are louder than literal titans stomping or charger thundering is really stupid
Me gunning down the alpha commander or whatever bugs. Me getting unsettling feeling “He’s right behind me isn’t he?”
so not sound design, but audio mixing?
Isn't audio mixing a huge part of the design
The sound design is bad, but not "can't hear anything behind me" bad. Check in the sound options that you have selected Headphones, TV, or whatever you're using, and not 5.1 surround. The game defaults to 5.1 I think, and most people are probably playing with a headset. Lowering the music down from 11 to around 7 or 8 makes it easier to hear things.
I have it set to the correct type of device and I have the music on 0 at all times.
"Heavy units remastered" mod on nexus fixes thst issue. It essentially just boosts sounds that are already present in the game so its all pure vanilla. You can also top it off with "Light units remastered" too
The second mod is called, "Chaff Units Remastered." These are the only two mods I've used so far because the audio mixing is worse than in some games from decades ago somehow.
Oh right, thanks for clarifying. I confused Chaff with light
Giving my big fat +1 to heavy units remastered as a MUST-HAVE mod. I don't like modding MP games due to perceived imbalances of experience - but being able to specifically hear an impaler a few seconds before its tentacles burrow underneath me or hearing a THUMP THUMP behind me as I panic and feel a charger brush past my arm hair while I dodge left is an experience that so greatly enhances the game. I'm genuinely upset that the devs don't change the basegame audio balance to be like this because I am genuinely having *more fun* as a result of this and I want everyone to experience that!
It feels very vindicating to see the sound finally being talked about. I hope they fix this in time for the Xbox release
It’s been complained about since release and the devs haven’t acknowledged it at all
Yeah the audio is getting rough, could hear a biletitan on the other side of the map but not the chargers and titan nearby walking around.
Practice the 20/20 rule and they can't sneak up on you.
Every 20 seconds, look 20 feet around you.
Reloading? check surroundings.
Repositioning? ""
Cleared a few bug holes? ""
Waiting on resupply? ""
etc.
To get this into muscle memory, play with sound off for a few days. It forces you to be more present and know your surroundings. If you didn't see the dumpster truck moving toward you, well... death by impact.
you don’t really gotta do that, the way i get around silent enemies is by just using my minimap constantly
obviously still look around every now and then incase of stalkers and the like but using the minimap can help you “look” around large obstructions like mountains or buildings
Sprinkle legos on the ground like Hansel & Gretel. Not even a behemoth can step on one of those and not howl in pain.
“Eagle 1, dropping super legos”
A lot of enemies are too quiet. The other day an automaton tank snuck up on me and I only realized it was there because of the noise the bushes made when it drove over them.
I just installed the Heavy Units Remastered mod at the suggestion of a bunch of Divers... and my god, what a WORLD of difference this makes! I can actually hear Bile Titans from 100m+ away. I can hear Chargers stomping up behind me. Impalers... well, Impalers are perhaps a little too loud when they burrow... But at least I know damn well when they do!
How the hell is this not how the game is by default?
Stealthier than a stalker and 1 hit me
Honestly the sound balance/design is my biggest complaint with this game. Pretty much every enemy should make more noise when coming up behind you and the sound of the stim injection should only play after I'm actually injected not a split second before!
I’ve had way more behemoths come up and jump scare me lately than I’m comfortable with.
You're telling me an armored suv of a yolk is bounding across a rocky terrain at mach fuck and is completely silent?
I don't want to be the deer in the headlights, I want to break charger ankles without even looking
Give them one of those cow bells
Give em squeaky shoes
I heavily rely on in game sound to mentally map the field (samples, enemies, etc) and I swear - I’ve been in assassinated by these bastards more than the Stalkers.
Alright. I’ll take the Overseer. If we all marry one enemy type, the problem will be solved. Who’s next?
I'm bout to make some poor bug a widow
i feel like their steps should be.. yknow.. heavy?
I just began playing, and somehow bugs are the most ninja like enemies I have ever met in a non-horror videogame
Lol yea this has been an issue since day one and it's quite infuriating. It's ironic that the loudest bugs are the stalkers... yknow, the stealth bugs 😂
Heavy Units Remastered on Nexus.
Thank me later.
I don't understand how it's been years since launch and they've just never addressed this
Idea: a megaphone strapped to their mouth(?)
Chargers also dont set off any vibration on controller, its really weird
I hate silent chargers more than silent berserkers
The enemy sound deisgn needs... improving. No way half these enemies the size of trucks make less sound than a crawling helldiver.
Booster idea: micro-lidar sensors
Integrated micro-lidar to the helmet that will alert you if a big enemy is approaching and from where.
Or it could be a passive for helmets. Arrowhead pls add passives to helmets
💀
I've heard that turning on "Midnight" mode in the audio settings helps
I've run Midnight mode since launch for this reason. It doesn't help at all in my opinion. Most bugs and automaton units are dead silent until they are right on top of you, and even then they're still pretty quiet.
Almost like there are armors just for such things.
I’ve been snuck up on too many times to count. Hearing them over gunfire, explosions, and combat music is surprisingly tough. Wish the game prioritized more on the footsteps.
Sound as a whole is in a rather buggy state right now. Hopefully it's one of the things touched up in the coming patch.
Isn't there actually a bug that they only make noise if you're looking at them or something?
Me when I can’t hear the elephant running behind me
The warriors were the problem for me today. The waves were just neverending, and of course some were bound to slip through. I wasn't checking corners before one got around me and I got eviscerated.
Getting ambushed from behind by some giant lumbering bug is the most ridiculous experience in the game save a bot gun turret sniping you from halfway across the map
Simple fix, add noises and make the screen shake 🤙🏽 (captain obvious was out for lunch so I filled in)
That and the fact they turn on a dime!
These should have a haptic, and screen rumble instead of a specific noise.
