If you want to play with mines, consider Gas Mines,. The gas damage can be countered with a simple stim other mines will require you to shoot a path forwards or get insta killed.
Gas mines are also just the best kind of mine, full stop. People ask for orbital gas barrage but brother, it's already in there in mine form.
If you bring gas nades you can just throw one down right before you call in the mines and they'll successfully deploy even in the middle of a bug breech. At least that's been my experience anyway.
That's been my go-to for the zappy tower – call tower, throw nade, nade pops just before tower lands, and everyone is to busy wiping mustard from their eyes to notice that their ECT just arrived!
They can destroy it before it spins em out?
Yep; especially if you don't have the ship upgrade but even with it they sometimes get blown up first.
Yes I know, but the barrage would be kind of funny
Yes but gas barrage would be so fuckin cool.
Thud Thud Thud-Thud
Hiiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssssss
Ypres flashbacks.
(Edit. I'm aware that gas wasn't delivered by artillery in the Second Battle of Ypres.)
I want 380 levels of coverage. I want to gas the entire poi and then get halfway to the next one. I want to pollute so much of the map that generations of terminids will be deformed
Smelldivers keep winning
AT Mines are a solid pick too because only heavy enemies can trigger them, so they're safe for Helldivers to walk over.
When I see this point, I never see people acknowledge that the mines don't need to go off from you stepping on them to still be very dangerous. They get set off by any damage, and with how large their AoE is, they can kill you even if you're multiple meters away from the mine. Being safe for helldivers to walk over does not make them safe, just more so than something like incendiary or AP mines.
i mean, they are MINES. they are not supposed to be SAFE. MINES not SAFE. MINES and SAFE are in a loveless marriage where MINES got to keep the kids and all of those kids post on reddit about safety.
You can out stim fire as long as you shoot the mine first
But you still have to shoot the mine is the point
On asset evacuation (aka tower defense), the All Mines strat is god. Unless you accidently ragdoll and now there's mines behind the walls.
Also no, I did not use this in super city missions that resulted in me owing Super Earth requisition slips
I just made that huge mistake earlier today, got rekt by the traitor and we had a barely positive gain of requisition slips, that buzzard sound was constant in the first 10mins of the game until I realized what was going on.
FYI, in case you get ragdolled with a minefield stratball, and do NOT want mines there desperately enough to waste the strat entirely you can shoot the mine spinner before it lets go of any, completely disabling it.
this is probably the only time I use mines, I’ll sit behind the wall and constantly throw flame, anti-infantry, and gas mines, by the time they’re almost gone I can throw more, pair with an EAT to deal with heavier enemies
I learned that lesson the hardway during SuperEarth defense. On my first asset evacuation on super city mission i achieved my most embarrasing achievement: killing so many SEAFs (not intentionally) with gas mines that the requisition points reached ZERO.
Fortunately, my team took it with humor.
I dont think you can owe slips. The mission stats show negative but you dont get deducted pass 0
Ive seen a lot of mine usage and ive killed many seaf soldiers on those defense missions
Half the time I bring mines to asset evac, some moron runs out into them despite me calling them out and always placing them just outside the gate (so there’s no reason for them to run that far out).
I once tried out a minefield build (everyone was okay with it), and I still caused some friendly fire incidents because the most of the mines were hidden in snow.
Other than that, I only deployed them sparingly and we completed the mission without issues
Oh man I just walk at bright things on the ground. Too much old wiring from other video games. If im in your game and your using mines I will be mildly annoyed but I won't blame you
In a big firefight those little dot on the ground tends to get ignored due to sensory overload. It is usually when i died then i see the place has been littered with mines.
One of the very few times I've kicked someone when hosting was this idiot (or maybe troll) who kept throwing mines in the colony streets while we were having running battles with the Illuminate.
Sure was fun having to dodge Elevated Overseer fire and mines at the same time!
Why do you need an exit? Planning on running away?
"STOP FUCKING MINING ON THE TERMINAL AREA!"
"just wear heavy armor bro"
ಠ_ಠ 🔫
The gas minefield is the best disengage tool we have toss it down slightly in front of you as you run. That way it slams down just behind you and gasses anything chasing you into beating up its friends. Great when the bile titan stomps all the little bugs.
I love AT mines. They don't trigger off your allies, and effectively deal withnthe most annoying enemies
My buddy is a Mine and manned turret heavy build. I often have jet pack going so that helps get around them but in a pinch just clear a path with grenades or something explosive. Any MG can work too but your dumping a clip to make that path.
Much worse are newbies who use the 380mm stratagem like the Precision Strike! 🤯🤯
I won't stop
On today's episode of...
...just walk through the mines. They glow. Brightly.
Mines and electric things. Hate them !!
no no, see thats DELIBERATE.
just strap on heavy armour with explosion resist, grab the vit booster and the experimental infusion booster, pop a stim and run right through!
I just use them for Evac Assets missions. I don't plan on ever going beyond those walls. The enemy, on the other hand...
You mean I shouldn't drop 3 mines on top of the flag??? Or camp evac and fill the whole area with mines? That doesn't seem logical to me.
Counterpoint: if you mine the exit, you will have a 100% chance of losing your pursuers when you can manage to tiptoe through the minefield.
Remember: only unthinking monstrosities like our enemies are stupid enough to step on a red glowing mine. Stepping on a Super Earth landmine of any kind as a citizen of the Federation is seen as the destruction of Super Earth property, and doing so will put you on trial for disservice and treason.
Or y'know, you could go around the mines. It's much easier than dodging bullets.
Dedicated mine user here ( gasmines, at mines, incendiary mines, AP mines. Gas being most used. AP the least)
Mines are best suited in front of a breach/botdrop, covering retreats and defensive operations
-breaches
Throw the minefield Slightly in front of the breach/drop
-retreats
Objective done but still a crap load of enemies? Be the last player in the line and throw mines at you to cover your retreat. The aggro enemies are bound for your location so they will walk right into it.
-defense
Spread democracy/geological surveys/evacuation are the minefields best battlegrounds. You figure out where the enemy will attack from= pump out some mines
So wich mines are the best?
-gas mines
Easily the most versatile and friendly fire friendly of the mine family. Works great on every front. Kills the chaff. Damages heavy enemies. Also idiot proof as friendlies are only damaged by stepping on them.
-AT mines
The most underrated mines of them all. On both bot and bug missions these are killers. They dont get set off by chaff but they dont need to. Brood commanders, stalkers, striders, hulks chargers are rarely alone. They are also the only mines to be used offensivly. Throw one in a bot camp and follow it up with eagle strafing run. Useless on squid front tough...
-incendiary mines
The best chaff killer. Devestating on bug/squid front. Not good on the bot front. Quite the friendly fire machine...
-AP mines
The best killing mines...but also the most dangerous. Never use these with inexperienced divers. Devestates chaff medium enemies. Quite damaging vs heavy enemies. Hulks and factory striders are resilient to them tough.
I've rarely had problems with people bringing mines, but just today I had someone packing an anti-personnel minefield throw it down offensively at a lone Fleshmob... right on top of the objective...
... I don't wanna talk about it.
I will only throw mines away from us but If we need to cross it I am busting out the TNT
I had a group that two/three divers had gas mines and we had to evacuate the citizens… we had about -1,000 points reduced till they started throwing it out of the way. Though I’ll give credit where it’s due, the cictizens in the super city maps decided to GO AROUND THE MASSIVE BUILDING TO GET TO EVAC INSTEAD IF THE OPEN STRAIGHT PATH THAT CUTS THROUGH. I wish I clipped how stupid it was.
The other day I was playing an extract citizen mission, and this dude was placing gas mines all over the exit door, and killed every citizen that tried to go in. I have never killed a fellow diver, but this time I was pretty close
If you're good enough, there's no need for a exit path
(Joking btw)
The best use of mines is to counter bug breaches/ other enemy drop ins.
Yeah, I know everyone loves their napalm, but maybe I don't wanna paint a whole square mile in fire for the next minute.
Any kind of gas is, objectively, better, but I don't have the fart warbond, so sue me.
They're also just effective overall when used properly against bugs. Just think for two seconds and don't dick over your teammates.
When to use mines: 1. To block off a path that you're not going to use. 2. When there are enough enemies in the path you want to use to blow up all the mines.
Unless the mines are dropoed directly on objective, its your own fault for stepping on them, always.
An exit pathway for us is another entry pathway for the enemy. Are you saying we should retreat and not kill the enemies of democracy when you made an oath to give your body and soul for super earth?
in My defense I'm throwing them away from the objective/extraction to close off potential ways an enemy can get to us, i even ping it sometimes so others know they should try to avoid that area (also the random bounces suck, if I throw a stratagem next to me that means i want it there and not anywhere else)
but can't guarantee that's how other Minefield Users do so beware
Yeah, mine users with shit-for-brains are the only ones that well and truly turn me toxic.
Worst offender was on a bug mission in a colony map, we had SO many points of entry/exit on the streets blocked off by mines, at the start of the mission they even sent mines into the goddamn artillery side objective so we couldn't enter it without wasting ammo on detonating the mines away.
THEN threw mines way too near extract, almost ran me over with the fucking FRV because they HAD to have a HMG there.
I gave them several warnings, then at the moment of extract I just shot them in the head and called them a total moron for the mines.
Literally the only time I team-killed first on purpose among randos... This person was a genius in managing to piss me off to such a degree.
Me: "ok so there is a bugbreach over there. I threw two minefields on top. Ohgod the guy with the EAT just ran in".
Guy: "why did you put mines on our exit?!?!:
Me: "I'm sorry I didn't know our exit was the bugbreach over there!"
(But if I'm with friends I totally mined the extract early in the mission because everything was going fine and it only went sideways near the end).
I know very well how to use them, I just forget I have them, remember I have them, and use them cause I got them, consequences be damned
I use the gas mines on the bugs and squid front religiously, they are awesome for neutralizing faster enemies and you can get a stupid-high kill count if you pair it with a flamethrower
Or drop the minefield right in the middle objective and now you gotta dodge around them to turn on the valves
Just use AT mines, helldivers can't trigger them
Pay one stim toll to go that way
Have you considered not stepping on them?
My team made the mistake when I was 4/4 mine strats to have me head to extract early to call it in after they did the final outpost, there were no survivors (probably like 3 cycles of all the mines called in)
Just shoot the mines, helldivers make their own path.
Pro tip: - use gas mines - bring eagle cluster strike in case you need to clear them
The problem is hidden mines, and mines that explode without being touched… i’ve run past mines before that would explode and i wasn’t even near them, and nothing else was around to shoot them…
Just run into them over and over again until you have cleared a safe line for your teams exfiltration. democracy thanks you for your service.
Yet another reason I love the pyrotech grenades. You can skip one or two of them through a minefield to easily clear a path
People who hate minefield just don't have an effective way to remove obstacles.
Fucking throwing minefields on my sentries and where im using my airburst on Terminid evacuation missions. Every fucking time there's someone with an all mine loadout im tempted to kick them because they do the same thing everytime
Don't worry. There's a whole other exit path we can use. Sure, there are a few (thousand) bugs in the way, but I'm sure that our valiant leader (you) can handle it and get us through.
