none of my friends play and I want to know before I preorder the game on Xbox
better with friend but ive played over 200 hours without a single online friend still fun af
Yeah my one friend is lvl 56 or so, none of my other friends play and I'm lvl 98 lol. Randoms are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. But it's usually good (fun).
I played with friends until about 70, that was ~2 months ago?
I'm now level 125, really honin' in on the gameplay and unlocking* everything has been the most satisfying part imo
What about all the randos friended along the way?
I have 1000 hours just matchmaking with randoms. The ping system for marking enemies/objectives is really great and makes it super easy to "communicate" so you can still be extremely co-ordinated as a team without anyone having to say a word on mic/text chat. Also, for the most part everyone is very friendly and you'll get lots of hugs and friend requests as you go. We're all one big super earth family.
The ping system is good. But I miss the early days, when almost everyone had an active mic and you could actually talk to people. Maybe the Xboxers will bring this back into fashion, who knows.
From experience at least 50% of people have mics, they just dont want to talk. I generally dont talk unless the people in the lobby are talking.
Yup. That’s 90% of any online game tbh. Using a mic and will talk but waiting for someone else to talk who isnt being a dick lol or will talk just cause of that sometimes. Both can be great and funny
Why I like to just say "hello" or some variation when dropping into a game. Lets them know I have a mic, so if they feel like talking they can respond
I have a mic but usually don't talk because 1) my spoken English is terrible 2) in the same room there's my son playing and chatting online on pc and it's really loud.
Agreed, the early days were awesome. Never knew what kind of people you'd match with and always someone being goofy.
I like that it kind of let's us roleplay as Helldivers - when everyone is just using the UI and preset voices, that feels like canon Helldivers.
1200 hours without any friends who play this game. As long as you enjoy this game, it won't be a problem..
I'm fren
I understood this reference
No friends?
🔼🔽▶◀🔼
Your democratically assigned friend awaits.
The friends are the reinforcements we called along the way
Yes. I always play with randoms, it's still a very good experience.
You will make new ones quick. Especially if you join a clan
There are Clans ?
Unofficial but you will sometimes see recruitment posts on the subs (idk if this or HD2 sub or both).
Most HD2 content creators have their own or have collective discords that act like clans as well. I personally recommend Eravin's GhostDivers.
Link to that discord?
Link to that discord?
On discord mostly. They recruit on reddit often. I'm on a few depending what I feel like at that moment. Primarily I rep DSA aka Deaths Angels.
Greetings from the 1st Helldiver Cavalry fella!
Different divisions, one cause, one braincell for all!
Yes. A couple examples I know of are the chaos divers and the cheese divers
Yes. 600 hours and counting.
Yes. 700 hours and counting. I have one IRL friend that plays. We have been online together maybe 5 hours total.
I’m the same way
90% of randoms are super friendly and want to be helpful! (in my experience) this game honestly has one of the kindest communities i’ve experienced. there will be some occasional salt, but i encourage you to give it a shot yourself and see:)
I actually prefer it
Same. I don’t even understand why. But every time I’ve played with Friends or Discord I’ve had less fun.
I got fifty hours with nothing but randoms .
I don't have any friends .
Adulthood sucks ....
I've been playing without friends since day 1. I'm now level 110.
depends, you can press R to join a match with randoms (90% of the time theyre nice) (you can also add them (in game) so now you will have friend(s) to play with)
I'd say yes. Most of my playtime is solo so I'd recommend it based on that alone. I don't play with randoms much but I've had good experiences when I did.
It's definitely more fun if you do find even one other friend/family member to play with, but it's a worthwhile experience either way
We're all friends here!
Started playing with friends and I'm still the only one playing with almost 600 hours. It's definitely fun to play with friends but can still absolutely be a blast solo too.
Edit: I've also made a few friends in game so there's always that possibility. Not really to talk in VC but I'll join their games and they join mine from time to time and we'll message in chat. So there's always the possibility you'll make friends.
I'm essentially in the same boat. Three of my friends have the game but don't really play it, so instead I've made some in-game friends
Yes, I play almost exclusively with random by responding to SOS calls. I still have fun. It's a great community and a great game.
What are friends?
You will meet plenty of people while playing who are more than friendly and will typically add you to squad up if you are not an ass
Absolutely my guy. I've made lots of friends playing alone. I have friends who play but its a different experience playing with randos. Most are awesome. Enjoy!
Yeah, been playing since release, only a few friends play at all anymore, play w randoms constantly and have a good time(also there’s a separate friends list in game so there’s always people on)
Played since launch without actual friend until very recently
500 hours quick play
There is no other feeling dropping into a quick play mission with 0 reinforcements and everyone dead
Some missions are actual chaotic shit shows
Truly is the best feeling to drop in a fubar situation and come out on top
Join us brother. I always respond to SOS beacons
I'm nearly 500 hours in and it's the only way I play it, voice chat off, always quickplay
I play 99% solo and still have a blast. Lots of friend requests are given too if you meet fun people.
Its better with friends, but 90% of the time I play with randoms and love it all the same. Finding a good squad with teamwork and banter feels awesome!
100%, yes. This community is so good. Please don't deprive yourself of enjoying it.
Yes. Random squads can be just as fun
I have 400+ hours on the game, and I’m certain I spent at least 80% of them with randos.
Can confirm that it is worth it.
I didn't have any friends who play either. And to be honest, I haven't been into online multi-player games until HD2.
I have don't anyone who play HD2 but in game randoms are so wholesome and funny
Yes. My first solo que, without knowing anything, I had a lvl 121 rescue diver drop in and give me a bunch of guns to try out, controllable stratagems, and a mech suit. This is quite possibly the best online gaming community around today.
Been doing it for over 400 hours. There is always an SOS Beacon to respond too.
I think out of my total play time. Only maybe 8 out 400 hours has been with friends. There are some real pieces of work out there but most people have the same goals and just want to have fun.
Can be, its better if you can find HD2 friends with mics, more fun, for me anyway. You can use the Discord LFG on arrowheads DC, here on reddit or FB groups. Its not that difficult to find a group, better if they are in your timezone/share a similar schedule.
I play ~30-50% of my play time in quickplay. It's not too bad. Open your party up & host yourself to have control over the morons that may join (is rare, but it happens). Or just join at random via the quickplay option and pray your teammates have at LEAST room-temp IQ
Diff 7 8 9 has room temp iq
Ya most random on this game are actually decent, you run into the odd shitterthat chews through the entire teams lifes but thats like any game
Yes. At worst just join SOS beacons and you’ll make some friends
Yes I played on my buddy’s ps5 and I enjoyed it I can’t wait for it to come out for Xbox!
Yes. All Helldivers are friends😎
im frend
Don't make this harder than it has to be
I've only been playing with random lately, and I rarely get frustrated, I always have a lot of fun. Helldivers are cool, you don't need to be afraid of them
Yes
I love taking newbies under my wing when they drop into my games. I make a whole adventure out of how we gotta protect the new recruits
Better with friends, but as someone that hates playing with randoms online I’ve actually had fun on Helldivers when playing solo, pretty rare that one will run off and die alone or accidentally blow you up
You definitely won't get the super funny moments that make you die of laughter. But still the game is highly entertaining without friends, and more immersive in a way.
Yeah, I do it daily
Yeah, it's great. I played solo in the beginning, running maps on my own or with randoms. You'll be fine :)
Yes we are all your friend now
It's always more enjoyable with friends, but yes its fun on your own.
I have never played HellDivers 2 with someone I know IRL and I've got 300 hours
It so is
I would love to play and show you the ropes man! DM me and we'll add each other ☺️
Best community hands down, you’ll make friends as you play.
Fighting with or without friends we’re united by a common cause FOR SUPER EARTH for DEMOCRACY
I got 100 hours until I took a break and played with people for a lil and have only almost 200 hours. It’s worth the price and fun. You’ll just even more hours if you were to play with friends
This checks out. I think i probably would have gotten a decent 100-200 hours out of it if playing with randos. I have 3 friends that i play with and we are at over 1k hours. Even having only one friend on the team helps mitigate potential losses at the Rando-lottery. Especially if the two of you can carry the mission alone and a decent rando is just a bonus.
Also way easier doing sc farming for bunkers
Great question. Like most games having friends for me is what makes a game 100 hours of play vs 1000 hours.
Luckily these days we have reddit and discord and you can find friends to play easy.
Or you can be old school like me and actually accept friend invites in game being such a personality on the comms.
At any rate, it's worth noting, that this game is not your standard $60 USD (MORE NOWADAYS?!?!?), but rather $40. That was a big deal for me. Still think it's awesome.
Get a PlayStation, then you will have friends.
Yeah. Most of the time.
Absolutely, just ping and use the emote wheel and that is like 90% of what you need. You can go without the last 10% or just use the text chat in game for the rest. Mics are always appreciated but I don't normally use mine and I only play with randos or people I met in game.
It is still very fun without friends but its just not the same without them either
Yes you will make friends in the game
Yes
Yes. Easy to meet fellow divers.
I’ve enjoyed it alone playing with randoms, but friends can make for a fun experience.
100%
You can always and should join randos!
you will eventually come across some people you can add on your friend list, and play regularly with them. or join discords and find other players
or you dont need to, and keep playing with randoms, but expect some shenanigans
about 400+ hours now, and still play mostly randoms.
Yes, people on this subreddit might post their horror stories from quickplay with randoms but that's mostly selection bias. I won't say that I've never come across a petty jerk, or gotten kicked for no reason, or encountered a hacker, but 99/100 lobbies will be normal, nice people.
Till about level 120 I played mostly solo. It's a lot less chaotic and more predictable compared to a full squad. Now I often play with randoms. It's a good game no matter how many divers are nearby.
It's fun with friends, but fun by myself too. But it's quite subjective, but it seems others also feel the same
I always have a good time just playing with randos.
The camaraderie I’ve developed with the random players I encounter with just the quick message wheel and emotes alone is astounding. Completely heartwarming
Yep, and after time, you'll learn players communicate not by talking but in subtle agreements.
Yeah. I've made a few hd2 friends that play regularly just from joining random games. I find that the community is very nice.
It's one of the few games that when playing solo you might actually make friends.
Hd2 is one of the only communities where ive made an online friend. I usually only play with IRL ones
I made alot of friends because of the game.
So just play randoms. Be a good chap. Use your voice chat and you are bound to make friends
I’ll be your friend who plays 🫡 never dive alone again recruit
I don't have friends and only okay with random. Its usually a really good time!
This is definitely one of those games you can play solo and still have synergy with the random divers you get dropped with
Absolutely. I used to play with friends, but they stopped playing last year. I dive with good people all the time.. still a fun game to play.
Join people, start every match by saying "I'm here to kick ass and drink libertea, and I'm all out if tea".
The cool people will respond.
Even if you dont have personal friends who plays, we have a dedicated community that you can join randomly. Or if you want, join the official discord and you can find a squad there. Either way, you'll find someone to play with.
you can have just as much fun playing with randoms. there are some assholes from time to time, but they are exceptions and not the norm.
what may end up happening is you make new friends with the random people that you gel with.
If you enjoy meeting new people, there're plenty to meet.
If you don't, wellp, the game is still fun, but I personally enjoy mostly the cooperation aspect, so..
Yes and a yes. Who needs friends when you have freedom, liberty and democracy!
(Also many new friends made along the way.)
Man ill be your friend ,but to answer your question ,yes ,most definitely you'll meet so many cool troopers ,you'll laugh ,fight and die with them in the name of democracy, we will all be waiting for you on the front lines. Dive and give them hell .
It is. My friend rarely hop on and i just join randos. 70% of time they are cool, some even talk on VC and communicate. 30% dont talk or sometimes just being annoying, doing stupid thing etc.
90% of my time in this game was with randos and it was fun most of the time.
You make friends while your in there just don't be afraid to have your mic on
You’ll make friends along the way, hell divers has one of the best online communities in gaming
I’m always playing with randoms.no problem
Simply make some in the game or on their discord
Ah helldivers, the game where you're more afraid of your teammates than the enemy!
I’ve made so many friends playing the game! Definitely fun with just joining others/them joining you.
yes while you play you may find people to play with
Dont need friend when you can make friend
You’ll find some really cool people when matchmaking
Yes
Very enjoyable. Once in a while you get some really fun squads that you'll play out an entire mission with the same 4 players. Thank goodness for pings and chat though.
That's pretty much the only way I play and it's pretty relaxing tbh
That’s what I’ve been doing this whole time 🤷
its funner with friends, but even the randoms you meet can be pretty chill.
Solo play is absolutely viable — but trust me, you’ll end up making some war buddies. Just don’t forget to add the ones who didn’t blow you up to your friends list!
Yes, there are many clans that you can join and make friends. If you need some nice people to play with message me and I can guide you on how to join. We play together at least ever sunday in the big event and more smaller events during the week (no need to be there every time). And there is always someone online to play with on the discord. Also we are newbies friendly, just don't mind the guy trying to kill a titan with a spear.
Yes, all my current friends are former randoms I connected with.
Randoms are usually very friendly, as with any community there will be bad apples. However those are few and far between.
Yes. One thing this game really has going for it is the fact that it's PvE, teamwork-based. It's a great breath of fresh air from PvP and the not great experiences that can come with it.
yes, don't even doubt it, I was afraid too but in the end I feel more comfortable playing with randoms than with friends. the game has a great communication system (except for the lack of a separate mark for the bunker), and it gives a lot of pleasure when you and strangers from the other side of the globe understand each other perfectly and work effectively, as if you were brothers
Strangers are just friends you haven't met yet.
Sometimes they even give you cool backpacks.
Matchmake. Definitely the way to go. Or drop in and SOS. Either way. Chaotic Fun to be had.
As someone who waited in vain for nearly a year and a half for friends to join me, yes, it is. I should definitely have bought it on release, the community is decent enough that you'll pretty much not miss friends at all.
I am not a social gamer. I generally play solo campaigns and occasionally play with some close friends but that is all. If I do play a multi-player game, I generally don't join guilds or have online friends. Just not my style. With Helldivers, I have 15 pages of online players that I've met, fought with, laughed with, and roleplayed with. Really good community, for the most part.
I play solo most of the time when my friends aren't available, but even when i join random lobbies (with fellow divers who have mics) its never a bad time. I ended up adding many of the people I join with mics and we still play together
Yeah. Games are alright with randoms and not half bad for a solo player.
I do. The community is great for the most part.
I only play with randoms.
Honestly one of the best feelings in this game is dropping with randoms and just cleaning up the map without any communication, specially on D10.
You'll make friends pretty quickly playing this. If you need someone chill to play with let me know 😁
On the helldivers discord there's an LFG channel and you can find friends for life there
If you are not turbo socially anxious you can just play pubs, the game is worth it that way.
Though i advise against playing true solo because its really really rough, when you play solo you get basically the same enemy spawns but with 1/4th of the firepower.
You’ll make some new ones as you manage democracy across the galaxy
It’s really fun with randoms, you can either get pure chaos, John Helldiver, or very positive teammates! see you on the battlefield!
Yes. Obviously it's better to have friends but the game is fine without.
Yeah I played my first 90+ hours playing by myself before a friend got the game and we started playing together, it’s a really fun game even by yourself
Hell, even if my friend isn’t online I still play it just because it’s fun, if you’re interested I say you should give it a shot
Yes
I've played with randoms for the majority of my time playing this game and it was very fun. If you have a local gaming subreddit, you can look for groups there as well. I've found a group and it sure is better to communicate and strategize and of course the periodic shits and giggles.
You will make friends…in…helldivers.
Yes

Sat on it for a year because of this concern. Finally took the plunge a week ago.
Had no problems solo-queuing. No need for voice chat. Almost everything can be expressed through a chat wheel, a patriotic salute, or a comradely embrace.
Occasionally I get booted by eejits who should have set their session to private, but eight times out of ten I can drop into a mission and crack on and have found level 100+ players to be very patient and encouraging, even as I get repeatedly ganked by bugs or crushed by the evac shuttle.
Edit: typo
I just had a mission where I got kicked at the equipment screen but before I did the host said sorry on mic cause he forgot to set to private and were waiting for a buddy.

Recognized
Aw, at least you got an apology. Nothing more frustrating than gearing-up then being kicked while still in my hellpod. I've come to spot the signs now - easy mission, a single high-leveled player...
To be fair I've been guilty of going on solo jaunts without setting to private. But I'll at least let someone drop in and share the spoils. It's not like I lose out on anything!
Its stuck out to me cause most just do it and thats it
My favorite when going solo is throwing out the SOS by accident. 🤦♂️
For me, most times if a random joins before my friend does then I make my friend wait for one mission because he was too slow. Democracy waits for no one
If another able bodied soldier wanted to spread democracy more than my friend, it sounds like I'll be making new friends
I jumped into an SOS that had two guys that just got killed by a bile titan and I killed it then the host kicked me lol.
“Thanks for the assist”
My first mission some bro dropped a mech and just said "go nuts" divers seem to enjoy dropping toys for newbies.
Its a great feeling, pass it on!
I always host. I never kick anyone unless cheating or being a dick,or afk for to long. I like to host. Lets me choose what i want
People cheat in helldivers? What kind of cheats? I would ask why but scum gonna scum
Man. As aslong as youre trying. Its worth dying.

Besides, you can always meet some democratic acquaintances on the game and send them a friend request
I met a new gaming group through random team ups and we are all regularly playing with each other now. Easy to make new friends who DO play!

second this...as someone who's been here before the creek.
i'd say probably 97% of games I've played are with strangers, and I've made some online friends along the way. Most don't even run com's, but you know most of divers out there will have your back. You will come across a few bad eggs, and I just block them and move on.
