not to sound harsh or anythinf but every day theres like 5+ of these same questions posted. like what kind of response are you guys expecting out of a sub dedicated to this game?
"hey water drinking community should i drink water?"
of course youre going to get an overwhelming majority of people telling you yes from here. why are you asking other people? its YOUR money, and YOUR decision. go watch youtube videos or something about the game to see if its something youd want to play.
"hey water drinking community should i drink water?"
Hehehe.
No, really, you're right. I'd be more open to people asking for specifics, such as "How long does it take to complete X War Bond, will I feel left behind at the start, I like doing X in games, what can I do to support such a playstyle in Helldivers 2?"
These open-ended, broad-spectrum questions have no clear answer and are a waste of everyone's time.
"Should I get this game???"
Well do you like over-the-shoulder shooters to begin with? How much time are you willing to commit and what do you expect from this game? Are you fine with this being a primarily co-op focused experience? So many things to go over.
This. We obviously like the game, that's why we're in a subreddit about said game ffs (except for games like Destiny that is). It's about whether the poster might like the game, but they almost never say anything about their preferences/expectations/budget. They either don't know how to ask for advice or, more likely, arent actually looking for any and are just karma farming.
There's like a weird validation culture that seems to exists nowadays where people can't just make a decision like that on their own anymore.
I see a post in the Xbox sub asking if a price on a seagate external drive was a good price…it was a pic from the store. I just imagined some idiot stood there waiting for a reply lol
"@gork should i buy this game?"
Lol "gork". I'm guessing the answer that time was "WAAAAGH"
Yeah, surely not the fact that they could potentially be throwing 30-50$ away on a game they wouldn't enjoy. Surely nothing to do with that, it has to be validation
Asking a community based around a game if said game is worth it means you're a lot less likely to get an independent take than if you asked a more general gaming subreddit or looked for reviews online. It's not a good place to ask for advice if you're concerned about the purchase being worth it.
To be clear I'm not saying everyone who asks is doing it for validation or even that most of them are, I'm just saying it's not a smart way to gauge if you should buy a game or not.
Wait you're telling me that was money I actually spent on the game?
Have I been doing this wrong the whole time?
"hey guys I've read a couple reviews and this game looks cool-"
BUY THE FUCKING GAME THEN
The people that make these threads are extremely unlikely to read this thread.
If they were reading other threads, they would also read the "is it worth it" ones, which, evidently, they don't
you know whats REALLY funny?
I think i see just about the same amount of "can we stop with the "is it worth it posts" post across all the game subreddits.
like hunt showdown complain about it
monster hunter complain about it
rimworld....are actually too busy with warcrimes, cant recall them complaining about people asking.
Needs a demo so then all we will get is a “I loved the demo but when does it go on sale?”.
That’s what I loved about factorio if you don’t like the demo it’s not for you if you do then go have fun.
So be it
Unlike other places, our game is actually goated. If you ask these kinds of questions in a place like League of Legends or War Thunder, you're going to get mixed responses, but 100% positivity is a good sign. It's a good way to get a grasp on the game and its community. Stop being a buzz kill.
I just don't think it's worth it because I just keep reading a bunch of people talking about how the optimization is so poor so it really makes me question if I can even run the game
If you're on steam you can buy it and see if it works for you within the refund window of 2 hours. If you hop on discord or ask around here I'm sure you can even find a group to help you drop into the hardest difficulty (which usually has most strain on rigs because # of enemies) and see if the performance is smooth enough for you.
Keep in mind doing that refund will keep the money you spent in your steam account, so if you're short on cash in general and don't have any other games you like the look of that might be risky
I'm up in the air on it.
One hand we have so many games now that will have really good reception at launch or they will suddenly have a turnaround after a bad launch. I think it's only fair if people know what the current state of things are.
Like right now if you were to ask this in the 7d2d sub, you might see mixed results after the latest update being a rather mixed one.
Though on the other hand you're gonna see a lot of yes' here because the game is in a good state.
It's more just to know if the game is still in a good state rather than just blindly hopping in after a video or review. Because videos can easily be just so pro-game and ignore all the real issues with a game.
Is it worth it to play
It's just for self gratification. They make a post asking the most brain dead questions knowing it gets the engagement farm going. Just scroll past and don't even like them so it stays at the bottom.
I dont even understand why people make threads like that for any game. Just look up a review? Look up gameplay videos? Surely you have enough braincells to rub together to see if what you're hearing/seeing is something you might enjoy?
Wasn’t my cup of tea. I got it on steam tried playing it for an hour or so. First few lobbies I got kicked, then I had afew games and just got super carried/games were a bit too easy.
Could have seen it being fun with players who actually communicated but idk was sorta boring. Defs saw the replay value going down for me. I’m more into comp shooters, or good story driven games. This community is the only reason I got it haha.
What really put me off was the graphics on 1080p on my 7800xt. It looked like a game from 2015. If it had some visual appeal I also probs would have stuck around because of the awe factor.
If it goes on sale again and gets some Qol updates I’d be down to get it again.
If anyone has anything to say about why you shouldn't, it's the fans. They'll usually tell you why they like it, and then you can see if those things are what you'd like to play
We are the recruitment office. It is our our solemn duty to encourage any an all potential Helldivers to join us on the frontlines. Eveyone gets scared before their first dive, we are here to give them the push they need.
Is this post worth it? /s
People gonna be people fr
This is reddit, should see how often the same thing happens on every other channel. Ppl gonna ppl.
Love this
But is it worth? Should I buy it?
It is btw
Is it worth it....
Dont sleep on.....
Heres why this is what you should be doing.....
Genuinely, this game replicates what I felt playing Halo 2 back in college with buds or Smash Bros for 64 with hs buds. Nothing like it since then
Apparently mods allow ai now. After all that yapping earlier about "no ai of any kind". What a waste lol
Not their fault that you spend all your life scrolling Reddit. You have to imagine how funny it is to see ONE notification about a post asking whether the game is worth to buy, followed by another notification of a dude complaining about "too many" of those posts
This and also any collab post with almost any sci-fi franchise, especially ones with Halo or whatever.
And users can stop creaming their pants about Xbox with every single post, my fucking god.
Sucks that the mods don’t see things this way.
Can we stop it with the can we stop it post? Report it and move on. You're making the discussion just as muddy as the other post. Seriously this shit needs to be a megathread.
Is it worth it to stop the "is it worth it posts"???
"nooo people are making posts I have no obligation to respond to or read"
grow up
touch grass
It is a valid point though, if you want somehow objective opinion about game, don't go to its subreddit, go to more generic one - like r/gaming
There is no reason not to ask here though. I don't know why you think people wouldn't be objective. It's easy to point out the pros and cons of this game. Almost nobody will just say is the best game ever. There is way bigger chance that no one in r/gaming will even bother answering to the post. Also, why does it "bother" you? It's a post, ignore it, jfc
Oh, they could be objective, maybe even too much :D You're much more likely to find people that put hundreds of hours into the game and know every single thing wrong with it. And that could have opposite effect.
Idk, all in all the best course of action is always this: watch some gameplay on youtube, check out some actual reviews (on steam for example) and if you're interested just try it.
You go down the rabbit (reddit) hole and you're as much likely to never try a game you could otherwise very much enjoy because of all the opinions of other people, as you're to actually give it chance.
And it doesn't bother me, where did I say that?
I find it funny with any game, going to the reddit of that game and asking the people that specifically play the game and like it enough to lurk on its reddit opinion about the game.
To be fair, where else to ask? I would more likely accepts question in ball park of, i dont have friends to play Helldivers with, can i still enjoy the game?
I mean to be fair there is literally /r/shouldibuythisgame
With how toxic Reddit communities tend to get, chances of getting a no on your question are not zero, lol.
it doesn't always have to be considered toxic.
id rather have an honest opinion from a drug addict than some guy who may have heard of it.
True.
If you're concerned that you might get a "no" then you're not looking for buying advice, you're looking for validation.
The original point was "You're asking a community of people who enjoy this game whether or not to buy this game" implying that a they are heavily based towards a "Yes" regardless of how good the game is.
Yes, the poster is asking for validation. Or attention. Or both.
I mean. some of the games I browse I swear 10% of the people there are there SPECIFICALLY to shit on the game and complain about it "being bad" and cry and whine about how they ahvnt touched the game for YEARS and X-recent update is the reason why...yada yada yada.
Then there's the 10% who are always on about how everything is too easy and want more difficulty.
The 30% who are just there to post a clip or memes.
Then the rest who are just scrolling and responding to whatever.
in this games case,ya. I dont mind more difficulties... but im not gonna complain at were its at outside some really unfun mechanics. XP
Games fun, and thats kinda what matters most in the end.
I bought a game to entertain myself. If it's not entertaining, why play it right?
Though I guess Helldivers either way fills a hole that we've all kind of wanted for a while. Because yes we had Coop shooters like DRG and all. Though there was nothing really like Helldivers out there. We were still in that "It needs to be an extraction pvp shooter" phase. Which don't get me wrong, in the loosest sense I guarantee someone will call HD2 one, but I can't really argue with it. I just was tired of all the pvp centric games.
