When my bro gets Helldivers2 on Xbox I'm giving him a portable hellbomb
beeep
“HOW DO I DROP IT”
YOU DON’T!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SACRIFICE CADET!
🤣🤣🤣
Come here bro, I wanna show you something
Runs away after triggering
Two days ago I had the pleasure of two rookies joining on our SC farm lobby. I had a portable hellbomb just to fill the strat line, so dropped one in and told one to pick it up.
Cue me activating it and running away cackling as they panicked and then laughed over voice chat.
Afterwards, I taught them how to drop things and gave them a laser cannon.
Hey kid, don't forget to shout FOR ULTRIMAR before it explodes.
Which is fine, I highly doubt you’re going to arm him to the teeth to make the entire experience easier and not fun.
When I first started playing this rando we were PS friends with kept throwing secondary’s to me like “here use this, use this, use this”
Like..just fuck off and let me find out the hard way that I cannot in fact tank a charger hit
Some players like the idea of spoiling new players fun. They are going to find all the ways they can die very quickly anyways. You think after spoiling newbies for 1-2 missions people wouldn't just pick them up and drop them on helldive? They are going to find all the ways they are going to die in few mins.
I don’t think you understand, some of these Xbox players are blood-thirsty little kids that just want to shoot something.
In conclusion:
Stick a Hellbomb on them and KICK THE BABY!!!
You know, I told myself I wasn’t going to do anything evil. But since you mention it…
Give them a portable hellbomb. Activate it. Spartan kick them. Run away cackling.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again
Strider Jockey!
My skill was forged like theirs will be. I'll never forget calling in an SOS on hard difficulty and someone who was level 150 came and dropped a car.
I said "I can't drive I don't know how" and they said "dude learn. I'm gunner"
They'll get there and we'll help them.
I will be giving all new recruits a portable hellbomb, no more questions.
You're doing Democracy's work, Helldiver. Carry on.
I didn't see this as a problem when I started playing. I loved seeing the new stratagem builds and experimenting with fallen soldier loot.
Unfortunately this is going to be impossible unless xbox players disable crossplay for a good while and keep within their own group.
This Divers' got a point, tho picking up a random support or weapon from a fallen diver was like a lil bonus growing up.. don't shoot them for "stealing" . it's spreading Democracy
nah, I'll join every xbox player room and leave them an unsafe mode railgun and a portable hellbomb
You don't understand my friend. It is teasing. You show them what they can get as present if they grind.
I only see people talking about people talking shit about Xbox players.
I have literally not seen a single post or comment of someone actually talking down or shit talking them.
i seen a similar thing on youtube, I have only seen vids of people complaining about ps5 players getting upset. still not seen an actual vid of a ps5 player actualy upset
I’ve seen one or two shit talking comments, the majority across fb or Reddit that I’ve seen have been about 150s jumping in to “guide” Xbox players and giving them all the strats
You mean I can't steal any of your guys drops?
I know you're probably joking, but just to clear some stuff up:
The game will allow you to pick up other players' dropped weapons, samples, and backpacks. There is no ownership mechanic unless the stuff is physically attached to the other player - if it's on the ground or in a hellpod, as far as the game is concerned it's a free-for-all.
That said, it's generally frowned upon to just take someone else's stuff. For example, if I call in a support weapon, that's almost always because I'm going to use it, even if I don't pick it up instantly. There are exceptions to the rule - most notably EATs (Expendable Anti-Tank launchers), since they're disposable and on such a low cooldown, are usually fine for anyone to grab and fire off (assuming you're actually aiming at a heavy enemy). In general, though, it's best to wait until you're sure that the person who called it in isn't going to use it.
Just be aware that if you make a mistake, many players will just kill you to get their stuff back rather than ask you in text or voice chat. I don't really know why, but it's something to keep in mind.
Yeah, but I like to give the cadets a test drive of the mechs as a treat :)
I'll also give them an extra shield backpack after the cool down if I feel like they may need one.
Maybe they just reminded me of myself when I started playing and thought I would have loved using a mech before unlocking it, so I figured I'd give them that joy.
Even if a level 1 cadet gets shown a load of cool stratagems at the start, it just gives them a wishlist. They still have to earn the requisition to unlock them, which will be faster at higher levels, which will let them have the experience of surviving by the skin of their teeth with nothing like you said.
Also, maybe they are unsure of which Warbond to get first, and giving them a sample helps push them to either play harder for the super credits, or spend money and support the game to unlock them quicker.
It's been game design 101 for like 35 years that showing players the cool stuff they can eventually get is a good idea, like the intro stage in Megaman X, it's a good motivator.
When I started after launch, my mates would give me spare weapons and backpacks all the time, it was super interesting what I could get and especially what I didn't like, so I could save my REQs for the good stuff. I'm not about to rob bambies from having that chance as well.
I'm a big MegaMan X series fan! Oh the memories of calling Vile Boba Fett!
On that, I'd debate that the intro stage is less of an idea of what you can get, but more of what you're getting into. You have no inkling of the 1st Armor's abilities. It's all a surprise for the first playthrough (well it was when it first came out on SNES).
Symphony of the Night's intro stage is more attuned to your comment I feel. You start off OP as hell then have it taken away, only to unlock it all again later.
I was more referring to Zero busting in with all his upgrades and saving you, but sure SotN is probably a better example of the OP opener.
Ah...that makes more sense.
Either way, take an upvote for the nostalgia drop. I'm still hoping for a MMX: Command Mission remaster. It wasn't the best of the series, but I played the hell out of it.
It's kinda the fun though. Dropping some advanced weapons and telling them "Go ham" is part of the whole experience.
Do you not hook up low level players with insane equipment already? You're no fun lmao
I was hopping around in trivial rounds just trying to farm creds. But decided to actually help lower levels. I said y’all want some funny stuff? Dropped 2 mechs, a car and a bomb. And just left em
Nah I just play with friends and generally only on diff 10 so my lobbies usually have everything anyway
Anything below ain’t fun for me
No. This is how I started. I must continue the legacy
Oh no, God forbid we want to give them a taste of the things they could unlock!
Imagine being this anti-fun. I remember I made a long time friend back when I first started the game. I was a level 10 and he was a 20, and he kept dropping me the Autocannon because I hadn't unlocked it yet and he also taught me the ropes of the game. Now I'm 150 and know the game in and out.
Imagine wanting to shut down such a positive attitude to showing newbies the ropes and letting them get fun late game guns they have limited access to.
It’s false altruism. It’s not “let’s show them all the cool shit they can have and then let them go back to not having it”
It’s “let me show off all the cool shit I have to lower levels instead of letting them have fun learning the game the same way I got to”
False altruism? Sounds like you're projecting what you want onto these people.
It’s not “let’s show them all the cool shit they can have and then let them go back to not having it”
It literally is. I know this is my thought process with it, and talking to others, this is the same mentality of a lot of us have. Many of us remember starting out fresh and a higher level dude dropping us some things we didn't have yet. It was fun because you got to see what you didn't have and you couldn't wait to get your own. And the new cadets literally won't have that new gear when they return back to their destroyers.
You're making it sound like these big bad high leveled players are just handing the newbies free passes to unlock everything in the game.
It’s “let me show off all the cool shit I have to lower levels instead of letting them have fun learning the game the same way I got to”
This is such a non-issue it's not even funny. Even if it's showing off, who the fuck cares? Newbies get some new toys to play with, and as long as the high level isn't prancing about talking about how cool they are, there's not a problem here. And sharing strats is LITERALLY part of the game. You think AH is sitting in their office right now worrying that the newbies got their hands on a RR two levels early? Or they got access to a mech they probably ended up blowing in the first few minutes of hopping in it for a few games?
You also make it sound like the first strats you get are somehow imperative to learning the ropes and that you don't pretty immediately snowball into the double digit levels within a few games.
This is just a very weird hill to die on, especially when it's such a wholesome movement to make new players - new players we've been waiting to come to the game for a while now - feel more welcome.
And as for learning... You can learn whatever at any time. At absolute worst, new players might just get some slight decision paralysis. Which I'd argue isn't actually a bad thing because now they'll have actually gotten a chance to get hands on experience with the weapons in the field and might actually say "hm, well, I know I liked how this gun felt, I'll get this!"
I've literally seen this with my newbie friends I've Sherpaed through the early levels. They had fun trying out weapons they hadn't unlocked yet. But I suppose you'll tell me that they were having fun wrong or something?
Uhhhhhhhhhhh no
The best missions I played when I started were a hell commander joining and dropping a mech for me.
I wanna give the Xbox players so much pleasure they'll scream in joy
That’s nice and all, but the last time we tried showering recruits with stuff like this, they got a bit intimidated? Nervous?
The best part is new recruits only have access to a trickle of statements in the beginning, so they'll have plenty of time to acclimate
I like to go with “I” statements.
Damnit auto correct.
In my defense, I'm also a Warframe player-- gifts are in my blood.
No. Give them a taste so they know what they're working toward. It can feel hopeless as a brand new squishydiver with no ship upgrades, no stratagems, only basic weapons, and only a basic understanding of what's happening. Show them why the grind is worth it
Y'all fail to realize Xbox players have fought the Covenant and the Flood using Warthogs, Mantises, and bombs in the past.
Oh, i think you miss understood throuing it at their feet. I'm aiming at their body. They shall learn it the hard way. Squished by a stratagem, trampled by a walker, ragdolled through the air by explosions. i'll give them their firey baptism. i will instantly bring them level 10 and watch them squirm. Helldivers are only the finest, either they surive or they die, but those who survive, they are cut to be a Helldiver. This is the way general Brasch wants us to train the new recurits.
My friend, I’ve conquered the entire Halo franchise on Legendary with All Skulls On. Just give me a steel room, 25 thousand controllers and I’ll gladly join the fray and dominate
I just give them an exo incase they get overwhelmed and if they dont want it i'll take it
As an Xbox Preorder, yes, I accept it
Hey, I need some cadet to drive me closer so I can hit the enemy with my CQC-2 Sabre.
I think I’m going to drop from diff 8 to like 5 or 6 once the new players arrive.
So gas mines, explosive mines.....
But... But I wanted to give them a hellbomb 😓
I'm only gonna knight them with my sword, that's cool, right?
I rarely give them anything, but if i die, i tell them to take the JAR 5 or Inc Breaker and give it a go. Teach them the ropes. Just like it was done to me at the start.
It’s fun joining a low level, asking what stratagem they are thinking of getting next, then bringing it into the mission. If it’s a support weapon, they can use it to get a feel for it. If it’s a red stratagem, show it off and educate them, especially if it’s a barrage type.
Don’t shower them with gifts, but let them test stuff that interests them. Same goes for primary weapons.
Tbh, introducing new players to the game is super fun. I walked my friend through missions until he had enough strategems to play on difficulty 8. I restrained myself from using anything other than my primary and EATs and let him get used to wrangling the missions.
When we got to d8, I unleashed HELL. I felt like a walking god calling in 500 kilos, napalm barrages, and airburst rockets. It made him love the game even more seeing what strategems he could unlock.
You can see these used in the unlock menu
Drop the PVP blood gulch style map when then Xbox players join. Call it your “weapons testing facility BG.” 4v4 capture the flag. Do it arrowhead. Don’t be afraid.
If the Xboxers wish to join the battle, they must first be put to the test.
Have them in a duney area, behind the wheel of a large automobile, and have them slam the gas flat out to fly!
If they land on four wheels, they’re in
If they die, they’re in.
I bought the game with my money. I'll play the game the way I feel like it.
Idk... my buddy that got me into Helldivers dropped me cool shit right off the bat and was greatful for it because it showed me what could be achieved and made my first dive so much more fun.
Come Xbox launch day, I'm dropping a 500kg directly where we spawn if I see a level 1 player. For Super Earth of course.
Hellbomb pack and unsafe rail guns for all!
This is already done for newbies all the time though? Its very common to see a vet drop down into lower levels just to give the newbies the fun toys in advance because its fun lmao.
lol good luck
I merely suggested they add a level slider so people can choose as hosts whether they want to let high to max levels etc join their game.
downvoted to hell
These people have convinced themselves joining games to show off is them being saintly and not just the kid with the cool toy on the playground showing off
Giving the player the choice to let these people into their games has no downsides and for them to hate that kind of completely gives that away
Sure there's a downside, it fractures matchmaking and is obsolete. There's already a text and voice chat and you can kick people if you don't want high levels in your game.
And if you don't want the gear, just don't pick it up.
I think its great, but they should also have modifiers to increase lvl 10 difficulty. Like extra side objectives or bigger waves or more of a certain type of enemy
"This should be so fun for you!"
These people miss the fact that the Xbox players will have less fun with the "lesser" stratagems then, because you literally gave them the most destructive and best. It's like you normally have a wheelchair, then get to walk normally for a day, and then back in the wheelchair you go. Nobody would enjoy staying in that wheelchair when they had the joy of walking again.
(Does my example make sense? I don't know man)
The main issue with that argument is the fact that game is pretty well balanced. Bigger booms doesn't mean game becomes much easier. They are going to similarly effective and will unlock stuff easily. The only awful thing is that warbonds require a lot of playtime to get enough medals.
Heck your first turret is arguably one of the best because of short cool downs. Depending on the mission the machine gun is still good at higher difficulties too for crowd control.
This implies that the early stragems aren't very good, which couldn't be further from the truth. RR is considered to be the most meta strat in the game, level 5 unlock. Orbital Gatling controls breaches and drops, level 2 unlock. Supply Pack is widely considered a one-sided fits all universally S-tier pick, level 3 unlock.
One of the strategems that's widely considered to need a rework (more ammo, better lock on, more damage) is the Spear. It's a level 20 unlock, one of the last you get.
Point is, AH has done a pretty good job at making everything you get pretty good. It just so happens the most used strategems on D10 are often the earlier unlocked ones. there's not really a "wheelchair" strategem besides One True Flag memes and that's a warbond challenge item anyways.
Yes, but I find the issue that newer players will gravitate towards the bigger booms. Anyone does. "It looks stronger than the strafing run or gatling barrage, surely it is much stronger". I have lvl 30 teammates that constantly take the larger explosion stuff and question why I take stuff like the strafing run or Orbital burst. It'd only make sense that new players assume that the higher level stuff is stronger, since it takes more time to unlock. So they will still FEEL underpowered, because it looks like it.
I think they will feel underpowered because they won't know the mechanics of the game that well. I don't think throwing a stragem down for them (only ones that are bigger booms are Mech suit and maybe PHB) are going to make them feel better. They will likely just have some fun with it.
I remember the first time I used a mech suit, I shot a bug (that I didn't need to shoot, because it was a hunter and couldn't hurt my suit-didnt know) with a rocket and I damaged the leg of my suit. I didn't use mechs again for months.
I never got the chance to be gifted a whole ass mech or a bomb. But I remember seeing other have it and be like, “Y’know what, I want that.” And decided to play and continue on, I get what u mean by how they may be intimidated by the daunting level and credit gap but that’s what inspired me to play, besides just flat out democracy
Guild Wars 2 player here.
We had this with our steam release - some weirdly, aggressively ‘helpful’ veteran players swarmed the starter zones and had to be collectively told to back the fuck up and let the newbies actually enjoy the game instead of overwhelming them with ‘starter gifts’ and ‘advice’.
New players aren’t idiots and they don’t need babying.
Throwing somebody a mech they won’t get for 30 hours isn’t babying them.

That... was my plan, yes.
I spent about an hour the other day playing with a newbie. I think they were level 7. I brought them all the toys. Gave them a mech, turned them(willingly) into a human hellbomb, and taught them the ways of the helldiver. We chatted about which war bonds and stratagems they should focus on as a new player.
It was so much fun seeing how much fun they had with a mech, especially when they first used the Gatling on it. I've decided I'm going to run on low levels at least once a day to find a match with a cool newb to teach
Cadets love super helldives. Trust me...
All my close friends I took on a super helldive in their first few levels. Just to kinda throw them in the Deep end. I wouldn't do that without consent. Plus, I find people by going on low difficulty and joining random matches. I haven't initiated a match as a leader in months now.
I DO like to tell them to go as hard of a difficulty they want. I've gotten good enough I can carry solo on anything except super helldive consistently.
I still haven't pushed into the harder difficulties but I'm running out of upgrades I can get without L3 samples and every run I've seen makes it sound like you have to have more premium kit to get past that point.
Kinda but mostly not. Most of those upgrades are 5% incremental increases but a few are good like increased fire damage or the extra eagle strike ( doubles the 500kg ). You could run the higher difficulty with the default armor, lib, MG, and basic stratagems and it's actually good. The biggest difference of getting through the higher levels is a mentality like not picking every fight.
My standard load out that I run is all from the basic kit. I use the Recoilless, machine gun turret, OPS, and Gatling barrage.
For weapons, that depends on the enemy, but against bots, I use the Constitution and whichever sidearm I'm feeling at the moment, usually the senator. And then the thermite grenade
For bugs and squids, I use the same stratagems, but I bring the liberator penetrator, and change the grenade to impact incendiary.
Yeah, I host on lower and wait like a spider to catch a new helldiver who obviously plays other shooters. They're into it.
I just kidnap them and drop on D10 missions without their consent
They will be baptized in fire and blood.
confused screaming
Yup.
