had a company come in and do a floor drain/trenching install yesterday. I knew the drywall was gonna be rough but my wife is adamant we fix/hang new drywall. I'm sure I could do it by evening it out and hanging smaller sections but...is it less headache to just have someone come in and do that part?
I'm gonna fix the 2x's and 1x's so we'll save a little there and with the insulation replacement. I'm not a beginner with DIY but my only experiences with drywall have been helping pros so I didn't learn a great deal (they were quick).
Also, I'm a teacher on summer break so I'll have the time. Just don't know if I have the skill.
Really, you could get a quote and just see if it's worth it to you.
The fastest way here, I think, is to cut a bunch of 2x just a bit longer than the opening and fasten to the side of the existing stud to extend and give you a frame to fasten to. Then it's just cut drywall to size and screw it in, followed by plaster, sand, and paint.
What a mess ,looks like they hacked the bottom of the wall off with a sawsall. I would measure up 2 feet from the floor. Snap a chalk line at 2' and cut off the drywall.
Fasten a double board to the concrete then extend all the wall studs. Cut sheets of drywall in half to cover the wall.
Just watch some videos and do it. It can be a project that will make your wife happy, you’ll feel accomplished, and you’ll save money VS paying someone else to do it. As a homeowner, you’ll have a random drywall project in the future and you’ll know how to handle it next time.
