We noticed this crack running down from the stairs going to the first/second floor. It is right below a joist that the second floor sits on. House is 5 yrs old. Should I be concerned?

Push on it to see if its sturdy, if it feels sturdy than its fine, the crack is likely just a bad mud job that eventually just gave out over time, nothing structural

I had a new house built that had that on 2 different archway. The contractor fixed it. The sheet rock guy didn't mud it properly.

Your cracks, well the cracks in the wall, looks to be following the sheet rock tape line probably because there wasn't enough mud.
