Having watched the new seasons of Beavis and Butthead and not liking the animation at first, it grows on you to the point you don't really notice/care. It's just different.
Exactly
Technology changes, including animation and they clearly embraced the newer methods but while trying to keep that “original” style
I mean it gradually changed thru the seasons and people complained about that. Same with South Park, Simpson, etc
I think the complaints make sense because the new technology produces a worse product, but it’s not a problem unique to this show. This is just the way animation is done now. I’ll get used to it after a few episodes
Yeah guys it’s not the show’s fault that art and life in general is just worse now.
Honestly I wouldn’t have even noticed if people here hadn’t pointed it out. I’m just happy we get more KOTH and I’m not interested in nitpicking.
And if you watch the original series the rigs are very stiff and not very much movement. But the facial animations and camera direction is top notch.
I'm glad that I don't seem to be sensitive enough to tell the difference, and I don't intend to try.
It's kind of like in video games when people bitch about the frame rate. Sure, I can tell if the game bogs down and it drops to like 10fps, but when it goes from 60 to 30? I can't tell, and I am glad I can't tell, so I can enjoy the game instead of going online and complaining about how awful it is, like the people who CAN tell.
I’m going to let you in on a little secret. 99% of people who claim they can see a difference actually can’t
I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this. If someone is playing games regularly on a pc you can definitely tell the difference between 30 and 60, and you can definitely tell the difference between 60 and 144. It's delusional to say you can't tell at all, or you simply haven't experienced it
Idk some of our brains are just stupid man.
Like you hand me a video game controller and I just start playing.
I have no interest whatsoever in frame rates or graphics.
I played Fortnite for months without even realizing my aim was set on inverted until a friend mentioned it. I went back and forth to other games too with non-inverted aim lol. My lizard mind just automatically adjusted to it.
Dont notice? Maybe excessive. But couldn’t care less? That’s most people.
I mainly play PC games. I can easily tell 30 from 60. I can see the difference from 60 to 100 fps. But over 100 fps, to me is indistinguishable. My monitor is 144 hz. I have a laptop that is 340 hz and again, over 100 is unnoticeable. Some people just perceive things differently.
Same. 30 is rough for me. 60 feels solid. 100 feels amazing. Only in particular games can I feel a difference between 100 and 144, and even then, it's only when I'm looking for it. I forget about the difference very quickly, so I usually shoot for 100.
Yup. My nephew is obsessed with frame rate, to the detriment of everything else. He'd rather play at 800x600 at a higher framerate.
But... there is absolutely no way he can tell the difference. He's even played on my lower Mhz monitors and couldn't tell a difference.
Gaming "influencers" have led a whole lot of people into thinking that something that is largely inconsequential unless you are playing in the top .001% of competitive twitch games is somehow super important.
Oh, I know it, my friend.
🙄
not everyone who can tell goes online to bitch. Some of us prefer it because it means these shows get made and nobody gets exploited. I don't mean to be rude, and I get your comparison, but it is not as simple as being use to certain frame rates. The difference between something like akira and classic simpsons, and something like metalocalypse or my little pony, can be really striking.
I also can't tell the difference, and I mostly watch animation. Maybe it's that I don't care enough to tell the difference?
Possibly, I know for a fact that I don't care. Inevitably, someone will try to point out to me what I am not seeing, and I will ignore them because why would I want to notice something that will just ruin my enjoyment - if they are anything to go by?
Looks like animation to me. Every style is going to have its quirks. I'm not looking for KOTH to be in 8k 120 fps. It's a sitcom. I'm looking for comedic timing and funny details.
It's very brief but in the beginning, where Hank is screaming, he's stand beside a distraught Bobby. I wonder what they're looking at that's making them scream
A well done steak
I don’t hate, but im not necessarily a fan of it either. I’m in the party of “I need to watch some episodes for me to get used to it.” It’s been over a decade since the show ended and the show has gone through animation changes over the course of the original run so it’s just more noticeable but I will definitely warm up to it.
I'm just a fan of the old animation. Matched the realistic feel of the show. Even when they went to digital later in the original run, it still managed to keep most of the aesthetic of the frame by frame animation, more or less. Still looked a bit off. This looks like, to me at least, flat and cheap. Despite it now seemingly confirmed that the characters are not on a rig, the animation comes off as rigid and unlifelike.
I'll still give it a shot, hope for the best, but the animation quality doesn't fill me with glee or anything. But glad for the people who like the new style or don't notice such things.
Edit: Grammar
Despite it now seemingly confirmed that the characters are not on a rig, the animation comes off as rigid and unlifelike.
Where was this confirmed? It definitely LOOKS like it's rigged
Maybe not the best source, but this is what I got. https://youtu.be/A-QGfjxtDsc?si=HKUJUyGTpQVbguGt&t=297
Ya know what...boomhower hugging Hank and him not instantly bugging out is good character development for them both. He's still awkward enough to not really like it but he accepted his friend hugged him
Irs the framerate and how they move. The designs themselves all look good
The mouths look especially bad. They look like theyre skipping frames
The designs themselves all look good
This is not animation, this is not whats being talked about here
Irs the framerate and how they move.
YES this is what animation is, this what is solely being talked about. At least know what is being discussed before you chime in.
You mean like... by mentioning how the framerate and how they move looks rough? By quoting me, you are literally pointing out the thing you say I didn't say by showing my saying it. Stop being a petty bitch, this isn't the sub reddit for this sort of uncouth behavior
You're making it worse bro. What I pointed out was that the way phrased it gave away that you had a wrong definition of what animation is.
Why mention design when the movement is solely what is being talked about. Animation is solely about movement, and design is about look and structure. why bring up design then emphasize that the movement is the problem. You gave yourself away.
You’re being a jerk.
These days, someone has to.
No. Someone really doesnt. Theres enough hate and anger in the world without you picking an absolutely stupid fight because you dont understand how talking about things works. Get off the sub. We really dont want people like you
🥱 learn what animation is first and you have a deal.
It is fine. Still looking forward to the show.
I think that people have been reacting to nothing but quick images that have been compiled to give a teaser taste. I think that a lot of those quick images have been altered to make them go faster, and are therefore missing frames. I think that a LOT of people love this show to the point that they're very, very worried that the relaunch will ruin what the show was.
And I think that because of those worries, we're finding more faults than we would have, had the show just made this timejump and kept running weekly, back in the day... somehow.
I'm reserving all judgment until I can sit and watch a whole episode, uninterrupted. I think we all should do the same.
"Animation was better when they used Koreans linked up to a daisychain neural network via brain implants plugged into a single HP printer that would produce entire seasons of quality entertainment in mere moments, at the cost of only a 45 percent chance of massive cerebral hemorrhages." "Dammit Dale, last week it was Miyazaki being plugged into the Matrix to make that movie about the raccoons with with giant testicles, what is it with you and asians being plugged into computers?!" "I just think it's the logical next step between what we have now and the coming psychic amalgamation that will devour Neo Tokyo."
Look. The reason why a lot of modern anime (even the mid/lower-tier shows) get good animation is because they have a lot of exploited labor to make such productions. With that said, I can objectively say this animation doesn't look good. It works, sure, but it's stiff. Perhaps it's nostalgia talking, but I prefer the older style by a lot more.
Nonetheless, I am curious if the show can be any good, story-wise. Animation will always look meh if this is the end product.
The designs are fine, but the actual movement is weird.
This is how it feels with every cartoon that started out with cel animation and switched to digital ink and paint later.
Oh, I think the animation is fine but.... Boomhauer hugged Hank and Hank didn't freak out?!
it looks like Archer, just doesn’t fit the vibe of the show
As long as the soul of the show is still intact I think it'll be good. Animation will definitely take some getting used to though.
Correction, it doesn’t fit the vibe of the original show.
The thing that bothers me is the fact that they can use digital animation and have it still look and feel similar enough to the original, they just didn’t use it. Instead they used that rigged style that feels nothing like king of the hill.
The animation feels stiffer and less dynamic than it had been before. That could mean some of the visual flare and the charm that came with it could be missing. However that's not necessarily the case in the full show, and if it is it's not necessarily the case that it'd stay that way if the show continues, and on top of all that it's not as important as the writing and performances.
So, we'll see when we can see.
The animation is a little janky with the new puppet-type model programs they use to save money vs painstakingly detailed hand drawn animation but honestly I’ll get used to it, way she goes. I’m more excited to have it back with Mike Judges involvement. I was a big fan of his Beavis and Butthead reboot, I have faith he’ll treat his biggest property with nothing but the love it deserves
They give us all these snippets and that clip with the Bush museum, but where is a full trailer? Why not at least give us that trailer that was shown off at that special presentation?
If you don't notice how cheap the animation looks then that's fine. It's not really a barrier to enjoyment for most people anyway. Ill still watch it. But yes, it looks incredibly cheap, and either you have an eye for it or not I guess.
"Times have changed, dayed"
Ah shit. Fellas, I think they're gonna do the same song and dance that every reboot ever made has already done ad nauseum
Let's wait and see we've barely seen crumbs of what the revival has to offer. I'm pretty sure this is the craft beer episode.
I like that you were so eager to talk shit based on a 3 second clip that you couldn't even correctly quote the 4 word phrase you're sneering at lol
It’s a new season, not a reboot.
People just want to have something to complain about. 🙄
my only potential issue is how they handle the characters whose voice actors died. im sure it will be good but if theres no dale and john redcorn that removes one of my favorite parts pf the old show and i just wonder what will happen. can't wait to find out
John H did a few episodes before he died and considering how John V showed up to that event right before he died, I don’t think he voiced any Redcorn lines.
Its look pretty sharp to me! Not handrail, but from the trailer all the features if the characters look nice and sharp. It doesn't bother me at all. I like it from the look of it. If they can capture the same connections in writing im a happy happy man!
I think it’s not a great style for trailers, like, the new beavis and butthead was really good and the animation looked similar to me, but I’m not sure if I would’ve liked a trailer for it, idk
Animation looks like shit lmao. I guess some people don’t care but the people who can notice the quality of animation understand it’s poor
Idk I grew up with Newgrounds flash animation and shows like Home Movies on Adult Swim, I can stomach this. Imagine if they went with cel shaded 3d animation.
looks more or less the same to me, I'm excited
this really feels like the same crowd bitching about new Shrek when there barely seems to be a difference
It definitely feels stiffer the way flash animation usually does. Like the characters are flat paper puppets. Its not too belad but it is noticable.
What do I think? I think it's asinine to force a landscape video into a portrait format. Now the video sucks no matter how you hold your phone.
"the animation" is doing the same thing to this fan base as the last Jedi did to star wars and the Amazon show did to wheel of time
It's adapted itself well into the modern characteristics of animation. I think thats isn't being liked atm
People bitched and moaned about the og koth style when it came out too, I wouldn't worry about it
I hope the "Bwaaa" at the beginning was an an edit and not his actual delivery because that was kind of rough.
There was one scene where a group was walking and it looked weird, besides that it looked fine
The eyes bother me for some reason, but I'm still gonna watch it and probably love it anyways
Frankly, I don't care about the animation as long as the show can still tell good stories.
People love to piss and moan.
[deleted]
And here you are complaining about the people complaining about complaining. How original.
I dont like the animation but I dont really care about it enough to really bother me.
That’s how you know Hank was missed when even Boomhauer is being affectionate
I wish Connie either kept her long hair or got a mohawk and undercut combo.
I just want to know what storyline has Joseph riding horses with Redcorn...
Boomhauer did so much tanning that he is starting to resemble ladybird.
i don't mind it, i'll just a odd adjustment to how smooth it is
I'll get used to it just as long as the writing is on point.
I like it. I think it shows that the animators, much like the characters in the show, have evolved over time.
Evolved backwards maybe
lol when Boomhauer latched onto Hank like an opossum…
I think it looks fine just not as good as the original.
I think the qualities of the trailers are progressing.
I don’t care about the animation. It looks fine
Holy crap Redcorn and Joseph hanging out?? :O
Be thankful its not done by A.I......yet.
99% of people watching won't even notice. Hell most of the folks complaining online wouldn't have noticed if someone else hadn't have pointed it out first.
The way their arms move is just so bad
Eh i still miss the hand drawn style
Could give 2 shits tbh ether way. People cry about the slightest shit
I can't even tell the difference honestly
Ppl expecting Demon Slayer level quality
John Redcorn ☹️
I see no issue here
Compare season 13 to one of the first few seasons. It's the same thing. Nobody noticed or cared then, but they want to care now? It's just technological advancement in the way animation is produced. And it looks fine.
Looks like a flash game
Newgrounds with a budget
People complain because the Internet is an echo chamber, so one person says something and everyone follows along. Looks just fine.
It could easily be said that people are saying it looks good because of the echo chamber. Or a more likely explanation is that some people care about animation styles and don't like the flat modern style. And in all fairness, some.people don't notice or care about such things so it looks just fine to them. And here we are on reddit expressing our views.
TL;DR
If a paragraph is too long to read in less than 20 seconds, just stick to scrolling through Tik Tok.
Got bored of your opinion quick… mostly because you just flipped what I said and dragged it out. But hey, it’s fine, right? We’re all just expressing our views! That’s what you said, yeah?
[deleted]
Its the same
I like it
Wait they're calling it season 14? Why not just label it separately like the Beavis and Butthead reboot?
It's a revival season and a direct continuation from S13. Just a time jump.
Oh okay
I cant find any animation complaint comments anywhere
I like it
It’s the same as the later seasons on the original run….
Why is Bobby so tall? They did my man clean…smh
He grew up, that’s what happened.
I understand that people like the older hand drawn style, but sadly it's not cost effective for them anymore, I will say though, compared to some other modern adult cartoons, this has much better animation than them
I mean, it hasn’t been hand drawn since like season 5? What do people expect?
It's drawn with feet now?
Yep, peggysfeet.com
Lol I just watched this over again on my DVR yesterday. You made my day
it was still hand drawn frame for frame in later seasons, just digitally. they’re now using a character rigging software, so it is different
edit: my bad this is not correct. they are using toon boom which i thought was a rigging software but apparently is not
Thought they said it was specifically not rigged?
shit you’re right my bad
No worries, we certainly have bigger fucking problems in the world right now
Source?
Literally looking at it. Anyone with even the most rudimentary training in animation can recognize the puppet rigging and tweening.
Not holding it against them, it’s very common in modern animation. But pretending it’s not there is silly.
And? The final season still had significantly smoother animation than this.
they dont have a network of exploited korean artists anymore
Yeah exploited people get to do even worse labour now and computers can do these jobs
You're undersetimating the oppression of 90s (and current) south korea
ah the good ol days
I reminiscence about those times...
Do we need more KotH? Absolutely not. The show was perfect. Will I take more KotH? Absolutely, yes.
It won't be the same, but if they capture a fraction of that magic from back in the day, I'll be a happy man.
Yeah I mean it’ll never be the same as it once was, that’s the thing with any given return, I’m just happy to get more content even if it’s different
Yeah, I wish hand drawn animation could stick around forever but it will probably be very few and far between from now on. I dont hate modern animation at all and think this looks pretty good especially when compared to other "adult animation" shows.
The more I see new footage the more I am getting used to it
I hate that term hand drawn. Even if you are using a computer program to draw it, you are still using your hands. Just a different medium.
Not cost effectivetoo greedy to pay animatorsYes they did a good job adapting
They haven't released the season yet and you're already grading it?
Hm.. from the clips that have been released we can make judgements based off of them. This comment isn’t in reference to anything else but the art style.. if you didn’t read that :)
Oh, I'm stupid 😅
Yeah the art I think looks decent
