That's not necessarily what happens with TRT. Voice deepening happens to some people more easily than muscle growth. I used to watch a guy who had to get testosterone injections every couple weeks and his voice was always deeper in the couple days after one.
TRT doesn't pack on muscle unless you're actively working out and trying to build muscle.

Podcast/radio style settings that a lot of streamers use definitely deepen your voice, theres so much you can go for without reaching like this
Not a massive fan of the guy myself, but thatās also a big reason why Howard Stern sounds the way he does. All it really takes is a decent mic and a little low end EQ boost and boom.

Stern uses a Neumann U87 and bass boosts. That mic is 10x more expensive than pirates. You really can achieve this easily nowadays with affordable mics.

Low gain & EQ will just do this. My voice sounds significantly deeper on my AT2035 at low gain up close compared to higher gain far away.
Now is the low gain close proximity the most accurate reflection of my natural voice? Absolutely not, there's less travel time, but to claim I'm intentionally trying to enhance my voice because of it would be silly.
Another thing is that the video of his "original" voice, included a microphone from far away, and who knows what mic.

In that clip you can hear his voice sounding way more normal as soon as he distances himself from the microphone. He just has insane audio settings itās unbearable to listen to. Itās like a worse version of those radio shows settings
That's called proximity effect, every mic has that when you get closer to the capsule. He's just got gain cranked and a low EQ applied if anything

People who never recorded themselves talking don't know how many things can influence the way it ends up when played back at you. That old recording of his definitely shows the same timbre he has in his current content. I'm doing it as a hobby for my own youtube and the differences throughout the years as I learned, changed techniques and changed recording locations make me sound radically different even if my only goal when editing my audio was to just clean it up. Hell, I recorded a couple of videos in a fucking wardrobe, and in them my voice sounds deeper than in those I recorded from a large living room with little-but-not-zero echo, while the one I recorded from my new office sounds different in its own ways. Not shilling for myself, so if you want to hear what I'm talking about, my channel's pretty easy to find.
I think the discussion over his voice is a bit silly and part of a pile-on that's much deserved in areas outside of this. He [or the audio engineer that helped him out] chose very good settings for the type of content he produces. Part of why his voice sounds so deep is because he completely eliminated reverb and echos, and toned down high notes, which is something appropriate to do for someone with a deeper voice. He doesn't force himself to talk deeper [otherwise he would've felt pain from his irritated throat], and didn't overedit his audio [because I don't hear any unnatural distortions or artifacts from the little I was exposed to]. It's basically what is done for radio shows, so imho it's a legit practice, nothing suspicious about it.

Im not saying he doesn't have a deep voice but you're smoking crack if you think hes not using modulation tools to deepen it. He very clearly speaks intentionally deep and has done so since he started streaming. His old voice was never so deep in tone, but hes developed it over the years to have a baritone like depth to it. Nothing wrong with that. However he 1000% makes it deeper and more bass-y on streams. Anyone with any knowledge of voice modulation and audio setups can spot it immediately.

That's because you're not listening to the pitch. It's the same pitch, but the levels on the sound mixing are different. Most mics intended for content creation nowadays that use associated software that has the EQ set to bring out more of the lows. Destiny's mic also does this. My blue yeti does this, I haven't changed the EQ because I don't need to.

Yes the 'pitch' might be fundamentally the same but the voice is a spectrum of frequencies. And yes, most streamers, or professional production for that matter, may do something similar but nowhere near as much as him

People keep saying "voice changer" as if a voice can only be changed by some gimmicky software. He's speaking into a microphone, and microphone software has settings. Those settings change your voice.

I listen to sports radio all day long and they all have their own custom EQs they like to use. One guy in particular boosts his low end bass a lot and sometimes this same guy will show up early and use someone elseās headset / setup. He sounds VERY different without his custom EQ. Then he goes back to his usual chair and his voice sounds way deeper and bassier. Itās clear pirate soft has a low end EQ going on and isnāt using a fake voice.

It's what happens when people naturally talk quietly, or louder. It's what every person does. No one's voice is exactly the same all day. I know my voice does it based on what mood I'm in. And if I'm yelling I usually go a little higher.

You don't even need a voice changer, I have a simple old studio mic with filter and the first time I listened to my own video I realized my voice sounds much deeper because of it, definitely doesn't sound like my regular real life voice at all.

I think it is mainly just because Pirate doesn't have any ability to take accountability for literally anything people call him out for when he has been in the wrong a few times already. At the very least: Better mic, speaking closer to the microphone, and also definitely sounds like he's speaking on the lower end of his register.
There's an argument to be made there that since the pitch isn't lowered or whatever specific audio adjustment isn't made, it still counts as "his" voice and not a voice changer/fake voice, but it would still be an act in the end, so lol.
It all comes back to him being a roach who doesn't admit or accept anything, even something as innocuous as "I trained my voice to sound deeper."
However old that clip is, he's clearly a grown man whose balls have dropped, I could see his voice getting deeper but there's no equating the two.

Yes it's the same guy so the texture of his voice is the same but being slightly further from the mic just cannot explain how it's EONS higher-pitched from everything else I've seen, especially when we've seen the streamer awards clips where he's speaking in functionally identical setups to this, with the deeper voice.
Being closer to a mic doesn't change your voice THAT much, sorry.
The mic style and processing can change how a voice sounds a ton, this is a total non-issue. The guy probably prefers a deeper voice & worked on it for a while, sure. This mic is almost certainly not set up to bass-boost (it's an interview mic), I'm pretty sure that commenter was just trolling.
He's using a different affect and speaking into a different mic in a completely different setting, he may have even raised his pitch (consciously or unconsciously) to match the interviewer.

This old video isn't edited, but the audio quality is dogshit. Even before he starts speaking you can tell the entire clip lacks any bass, with an overwhelming distorted tinny noise in the background. Even the woman's voice sounds like it's coming through a walkie talkie.

As someone who majored in sound design and works in audio I can tell you straight up there is no level of video compression or bitloss that would cause someone's voice to not only change entirely in tone and quality, but in the cadence he talks and leads his words.
As someone who's recorded voice over work for major studios like Adult Swim and Comedy Central I am flat out telling you that "The video is old therefore the quality is why his voice sounds different" makes zero sense because in no world can a loss of bandwidth, bitrate, or even bass/sub-bass tones dramatically change a persons voice that much.
That's like saying "An actor in a movie 10 years ago will have a different quality and tone to their voice, even pitch, because 10 years have passed in audio recording quality!" It makes no sense.
And it even passively admits that he IS using voice / audio software to "adjust" his voice, right...? You're claiming the equipment he uses is better / different therefore more easily Equalized than the equipment used by the interviewer.

Second, the fucking video you are referencing for his "true voice" has literally all hz below 400 just cut out of it, go analyze the audio from the video and you'll clearly see a big dip in the low end. This quote utterly exposed your incompetence. Every streamer uses "audio software" to adjust their voice. Let's break down that second sentence. "equipment he uses is better therefore more easily equalized than interview equipment".
First of all, what the fuck does "more easily equalized" mean? I don't think that's a term that people use, at all. That's not some inherent quality of microphones lmao The claim is not that the equipment has some magical EQ property, the claim is that his voice is entirely achievable through simple EQing and compression. It's not difficult, AT ALL. It does not require any additional software; anyone can do it with the most basic of DAW software.
As for the panel, it's also not hard to understand. The panel did not have EQ and compression that highlighted bass. The other streamers in the panel do not stream with EQ and compression that highlight bass, thus they do not sound different and Pirate does.

And the quality of the microphone DOES make more of a difference than not. In the above example, even the interviewer's voice is distorted, tinny, and very far from how a human voice sounds like in reality. And while obviously a streamer's/radio presenter's setup will adjust the EQ and other settings to emphasize the lows, judging a person's speech cadence as proof for fowl play is very strange coming from someone that claims your credentials. You should know that people can change the way they speak the more they become familiar with doing it in front of a crowd/audience, it's not like they're set in stone. You never met an actor that can change their speech pattern on the fly during your stay with Adult Swim and Comedy Central?

Because he/she is mad for free, and we can chalk everything up to Pirate training his voice to sound deeper and abusing the proximity effect.

It's just the mic and the way they speak. They learned not to raise their voice randomly, as it's probably distracting for viewers, or maybe they just got tired of doing it.
I've been tinkering with vocals for a little while as a hobby and unfortunately this is one argument that is probably on Pirate's side and we should refocus.

Whether he consciously chose to change his voice or not over the years is irrelevant to me personally. I just don't believe he's using a voice mod.
Its not crazy to voice train either. But it'd be weird to voice train and lie about it.
I had a crazy lisp growing up and had to work on 'defeating' it with a lot of dedicated work and training. My voice now is vastly different than my voice at 17. My lisp only comes out when im excited or sleep deprived.
But it takes some dedication to deepen your voice.
I'm not sure either why people keep saying it's a voice changer. Occam's razor is that he chose to change his voice. It's completely possible.

He has talked about how he deliberately wanted to change his voice and now that's his voice. He starts speaking and that voice comes out. He can't even do the other voice or talk like the other voice without it hurting anymore.
He's way more nasaly in the first clip. Same thing happens to me and it makes my voice sound higher. When I intentionally avoid being nasally my voice comes out deeper.
YES, as someone who has also drastically changed their voice with training, I was thinking that the whole time I was reading through this thread. Tbf I donāt think Pirate ever admitted he trained his voice, so I donāt know, but itās still pretty fucking obvious this is just how his voice is now.
He talked about it previously about a year ago? and stated that his voice just randomly dropped lower. I wish I had a clip when referencing this but I don't, just memory from attending a stream around the time the current WoW xpac dropped. He claimed that he got examined by the doctor for potential throat/thyroid or adjacent issues since it was a sudden onset.
Just know he claims this was a natural bodily process. He has enough issues going on right now that I think the voice stuff should be the last thing on anyone's radar.

It's extremely obvious he has the gain on his audio interface completely cranked, it's what you call a "Radio Voice" but any moderately priced audio interface has that knob and additionally you can use software to crank it if you want

I think it's called the vocal proximity effect for large diaphragm condenser microphones. Can't remember the exact details but it essentially makes your voice sound insanely deep if you are right up on the mic. Think NPR voice or Stern. Match with a compressor and and an RE20 and any man with moderate voice control can sound close to Darth Vader.
Go watch clips of the Twilight Zone. All men didn't sound like that, they spoke like that. It's an affectation similar to an accent. Markiplier does it as well. Dead giveaway is the lowered chin when speaking. Activates more low range vocal chord vibration. Raising the chin tightens the vocal chords.

In fairness that's how you SHOULD be using most microphones streamers use, the SM7B especially. Helps pick up the sound you want it to pick up and less of anything else.
Exactly this. Most of the work done is thanks to the proximity effect (which means that you have to pretty much kiss the mic to get it) + some extra low-end eq boost. I do the same on a way cheaper mic than a RE20 and yet all my friends on discord say that i have a deep voice and they love it when in reality it's almost the opposite lmao.

It's just eq audio processing, not a "voice changer". One could argue that moving the eq bands around changes how your voice sounds, but that's literally what everyone does who has watched a 1 minute video on how mics and voices work.

Not to be a pirate defender but the voice changer allegations are kind of weak. He's been recorded at live events with an identical voice using regular mics and setup.
