Mullen was the engine of Cumtown but Stav was the oil that greased those gears. A ton of shit Nick said would have just come off as mean spirited (when it truly was or a genuine joke) if he didn't have Stav cackling at everything. A lot of stuff did come off as mean spirited anyway but without Stav it never becomes as big as it did. You'd tune in to hear Nick going in on Adam for an hour in silence, lol. Calling him a gay bug only worked as well as it did because Stav was cackling the whole time. I won't even go into some of the more...choice bits.
Him saying "hell yeah dude" "that's awesome" "respect" when Nick would make jokes about how he watched child porn or whatever made the jokes land even better as well.

I don't even think they ever realized how perfect they were working together. The 3 would often fall into the common archetypes of leader/wildcard (Nick), (not)Straight Man (Stav), and punching bag (Adam). These could shift around, mostly among Nick and Stav, but God damn, they just worked perfectly together. Years of telling themselves the show is terrible because of how unprepared it was, but that didn't even matter.
It’s a bummer, it seemed like Nick just couldn’t stand to watch his friend slowly kill himself anymore so he started calling out his weight more and more and stav was just too much of a bitch about it

My cousins/nephews are 18-24 years old and I’m 35 and I feel like a boomer around them sometimes.
Try being 40 and being seen as ancient and uncool by young people and as a know nothing little shit by old people. It's such a weird age to be, and I'm pretty sure this is entirely a modern problem. When I was a kid, my great-grandparents would treat people that age as adults, and kids would treat people that age as mature, but not elderly. It's a whole cultural shift.
