The two wispy blue lines in the west confuse me. Phoenix? Las Vegas? Narrower lines than LA?
there are 10 million people in LA county, it has to be at least two lines
LA Metro is split into 4 strips on this map
Phoenix and SLC
People forget how populated Phoenix is.
Can you list the strips by width? It looks like New York has two of the thinnest strips, but LA, Chicago and SF have some thin strips too that would be interesting to compare.
OP said each strip is about 6.6 mil people so that explains some of it but I would love to see which cities are where.
NYC is the only city that needs to be split, and then maybe the top 10 metro areas.
Right, I just would be interested to know which is the 3rd, 4th, 5th thinnest strip, etc.
New York is thin but also way shorter than those other two ;)
No doubt new york would have the thinnest strip in the country. And obviously the strip with all of Alaska would be the widest. I am just curious about the ordering of the top 10 strips and bottom 10 strips, etc.
Just barely missed Pride Month. /s
Ah yes, New England and the lines.
I’m in on that Eastern New England state.
I live in that eastern New England state
Eastest 2% represent!
Love how Maine almost looks intact. If you just discount that it now includes Boston too
You've got it backwards - Maine used to be part of Massachusetts until 1820. It's just getting the old band back together. It's Portsmouth that doesn't belong.
Oh god no plz do latitude instead
shoulda put this up during pride month
We’re all Chile now
♫ It won't be easy... You'll think it strange
Now name them.
Trippy
Also drippy
Thanks, I hate it
46 states get to have a coast
Do I need to be wearing a Technicolor Dream Coat to understand this?
Can we get the state borders in there?
If my uncle saw this he would flip out for there to be any sort of rainbow over the US of A
But what should we name them? I nominate the West Coast strip to be called Bestland.
I thought the NYC lines were small then I saw the la lines they're basically not even lines lmao
my state is not even contiguous in this... try again
What
What’s up with the dark purple in the northwest, near Idaho? Portland and Seattle are both closer to the coast, so I’m blanking.
Kinda hard to tell exactly without state lines but definitely Spokane and probably Pullman/Moscow. Coeur d'Alane and Boise both look like they are in the pink section I think
That would make sense geographically, but I’m still confused because OP said each section represents 6.6 million people. I wonder if they’re counting the lower batch of purple in that as well.
Oh I definitely read it as being one 'state' from top to bottom, it just has gaps cuz it couldn't make it contiguous and under 6.6 at the same time
the 50/50 mark is around where Chicago is
Shout out to all the people living in that big chonky purple strip out west. I see you 🫡
It bothers me that the lines aren’t straight. I get that it’s probably because of census blocks, but it still bothers me.
You guys should do this it would be funny I think
we don't deserve you
After the 2024 election, this is the country we deserve.
Who took the time to make this? Why did they take the time to make this?
Absolutely crazy graphic if you think about its effect on US expansion.
Fascinating!
i cant quite tell which strip im in
You can see the gerrymandering in some places
I'm in the easternmost one.
Green Hampshire would be miserable
Maine, haha.
In Massachusetts:
Guy 1: Yeah I live in blue Mass. You?
Guys 2: Yellow Mass.
Guy 1: Jesus kid you can move ya know…
We should become the United Strips of America and each strip becomes the new states. The senate would finally make sense
New pride flag just dropped.
Looks odd to me
What?
Pride month was last month
But why lmao
You could take a road trip across all 50 states by using only I-90 now.
Truly the best reasoning lol
Omg if you have the county list for each of these “states”, please make an electoral college map with this for the 2024 election.
There's a decent chance you'd miss driving through the westernmost blue state since it's got breaks around that area.
Maybe I 25 would allow travelling the 50 horizontal lines.
What's the minimum state width and where? Min width across two states? Is someone's condo in LA in 3 states now?!
The Libiquites are at it again, Rainbowizing America with their woke nonsense
They're eating the dogs.
Cool. But, I can't help but think, " Wow - someone's got a lot of time on their hands."
now do latitude
Each strip has a population of around 6.6 million people
This would actually be a really interesting way, maybe even an ideal way to govern. Now if we could only get daylight savings time based on latitude.
Not at all ideal, given how different latitudes can be. We’re putting minnesota in with western louisiana
What? Duluth, MN and Layfayette Louisiana being part of the same state would cause problems?
Only a Redditor would call this ideal.
Only a Redditor would ignore what I said and respond with something this stupid.
Would be nice if you could add city names and positions on the map. Hard to gauge where one is or what city is in what zone. Helpful suggestion if you remake it.
