It's a shame that middle of the book wasn't put on Berlin.
Interesting that the mapmakers put endonyms in brackets. They are usually omitted from most maps.
Europe as of 1966, plus the delusional claims of West Germany.
2066*
Always use Trieste as a guide, it's in Yugoslavia here
Interfering it calls Northern Ireland “Ulster”
Thanks for not marking East Prussia as "occupied by Poland/Soviet Union", mapmaker. I know it took restraint.
Northern part of scandinavia and Iceland patiently waiting to be discovered
Icecubeland.
Also, with entire Tatarstan but without most of Scandinavia (landwise).
Europe and friends
The only body of water labelled in the UK is Holy Loch, which is where submarines were based during WW2. I'm surprised that they felt it was so still important enough that they included it in a 1966 map.
Edit: I've just noticed that it's for the post-war period of 1949-1989.
I always asked myself why the communist states always call themselfs democratic or a People’s republic.
No neighbours of Poland exist anymore
Fun fact, none of Poland’s neighbours from the Cold War exist anymore
This appears to be a generic Cold War map of Europe, rather than specifically as at 1966 (or any other specific year).
For example, it shows the Cyprus division line - which did not occur until 1974. At the same time, it shows the Middle East's pre-6 day war borders.
I was baffled by Cyprus as well. It still shows it as a single state, but I cannot read the writing on the side.
it translates as:
Attila Line 1974
1960 independent republic
1961 member of the Commonwealth
1963 crisis
1974 conflict, Turkish invasion
So the title of the post is not fully correct, right? Because the title of the map is postwar Europe 1949-1989. It's not specific to 1966.
