How receptive were the crowd to Metallica back then?
well the group I was with were there for Metallica as much as Ozzy and I got the vibe a lot of people around me were, too
I believe at one point the fans wanted more Metallica so they played longer, Ozzy was getting mad

Went to that tour at Nassau coliseum. Had to buy a ticket for my asshole "uncle" so he'd drive.
He acted like he knew the guys in Metallica.
He played weird B-boy hip hop the whole ride. Said he listened to metal in the army.
I thought Ozzy was peak, my friends insisted Metallica stole the show.
Either way it kicked ass.

Wig or some kind of hair piece.
Also even if it isn’t it only takes a year at most to grow that long.

I always forget Ozzy had blonde hair in the ‘80s.
I saw them on this tour for the first time back in 1986. I had already seen Ozzy in '84 with Motley Crue opening for him then. We had front row to both shows but for Metallica I was directly in front of Cliff the whole time. He was my favorite and it was the only time I actually felt like I was in another dimension in time, watching his hair and feeling the wind come off of it when he propped his foot on the monitor I was standing under. Five months later, he was gone. Everything changed. But to answer your question, we were in Charlotte NC and their were a few fans at the concert, pretty much everyone was there for Ozzy. Like I said, I had seen him on the Bark at the Moon tour and he was great but...After banging my head to damn near concussion on the short but great Metallica set, Ozzy came down or out in this chair like a king. After what we just witnessed, seeing Metallica for the first time and being blown away by the energy level they played at, we just said screw it, and left, back to the hotel to get a beer. My friend and I both agreed that we wanted to live that moment as long as we could, and Ozzy and his big chair just got in the way of that. It was weird, I liked Ozzy but he just couldn't compete with what we just witnessed.
