I thought they were really, but ultimately, Ozzy and Black Sabbath's sets will be the ones people will remember.
I've watched the entire show like 4 times over. . great performances by pretty much everyone, but frankly the best sound / most exciting I thought goes to Guns. I've seen a LOT of GnR shows, and Axl hasn't had it like he did that night, for a LONG time. Weirdly, the sound quality for each band improved throughout the night (as is typical at long shows) but then Metallica had a weird drop in quality compared to Guns. I think it was straightened out by the time they got about mid Creeping Death though.
Other than Gojira, and whoever was at the very first part of the bill, who's names I don't even remember, I definitely will remember this setlist. Especially Tool to the end.
Even Gojira, was fine, I just.. don't like any of their songs, and I don't think I knew the Sabbath song they did... or if I did, I didn't remember or recognize it

Yea the rest of the band sounds great, and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath was such a great choice of cover. But Axl just sounds ridiculous… I know he’s spent a lifetime giving it his all (when he actually shows up) so I hate to make fun, but holy hell.
Our boys killed it for sure So did Gojira, lamb of god, slayer, tool, ozzy and sabbath from when I watched like 7 hours lol

Definitely not flawless. Sounded like they had some mic issues during the first song but once it got straightened out everything went hard and it was amazing.
Yes they did. But Slayer were better gauging by the crowd reaction lol
Slayer had more pits but the whole stadium was basically standing from Metallica through to Sabbath. And the whole place singing along to the Battery intro and the Master harmonies. Not forgetting the die chant for Creeping Death either

Good set but they really should have tuned down more for the Sabbath cover. James just couldn’t sing it in that range and I think it strained his voice for the rest of their set.
James really did not sound great, especially compared to how he’s been sounding live on their own tour. Hole in the sky is not his song, same happened during the rock and roll hall of fame induction when they played. Such a shame they didn’t play a different song.
Think James just really loves that particular song for whatever reason. I'd imagine as the vocalist James gets final say on the covers they end up doing since he's gotta feel good singing them... and he certainly struggles with that one.
Ozzy himself only performed Hole in the Sky handful of times, and I don't think ever again after like 1977.
Kinda wonder if they initially wanted to do that song instead of Sabbra Cadabbra on Garage Inc.
I think your judgement might be clouded by the fact that this was a live audio mix, whereas the official live mixes they do on their YT channel and so on are heavily post processed.

They did a fine set. All the band's were fine (except GnR who's set was ruined by Axl's grannie voice) But at the end of the event Slayer's set dominated - best set of the day. And if there's to be a 2nd place, it's not even close. Through their entire set James was standing at the side stage huffing a cigar and grinning ear to ear. He knew he was witnessing something special.

Yeah, I wasn’t fussed for Slayer at all just due to the number of times I’ve seen them, but the setlist was flawless and the performance was 10/10!
Axl was fucking on point even though he doesn't have the gravel in his voice anymore. That was the most on point I've heard him since early in the UYI tour.
But.. I suppose you have to be a huge GnR fan that's seen like a hundred live shows to think that it's an improvement, so I get it.

How long did it stay in the crowd before someone popped it, pulled it into the audience, inevitably fought over it, so they could protect and deflate it for the remaining songs & aggravate the shit out of everyone around them so they could have a souvenir that will fetch maybe a few hundred bucks on eBay?
Ozzy's crew sent those two balls into the audience before the first band came on, and they continued to be in play until Black Sabbath finished.

To say I was not expecting them to cover that one would be a HUGE understatement LOL.
Between Metallica playing Johnny Blade, and GnR playing Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, my expectations of the night were fucking blown away.
Y'know how a lot of Metallica covers are considerably better than the original songs? Yeah, Johnny Blade by Metallica is definitely one of them.
it was a decent cover although they had to change the drum pattern during the verses to something simple so that Lars could play it. Bills original drum pattern is a much more jazz influenced pattern (like a lot of Sabbath songs... well above Lars' skill level) Once they got to the middle 8 breakdown Lars was more in the pocket because that's a slow heavy beat very typical to a lot of post 1990 Metallica.
I immediately noted that they played a cover that they've never played before, in the "typical Metallica cover style", which I thought was awesome.
I doubt it's "something simple so Lars could play it" .. lol.
