Can someone explain to me how For Whom The Bell Tolls is in E minor?

It sure as hell sounds like it’s in Fm to me. Everywhere else like Google and ChatGPT say Em but it doesn’t sound like Em at all, it sounds like Fm

The recording is pitched up due to the studio version being sped up slightly compared to the actual recording. You get it a lot with other songs like Peace Sells by Megadeth.

The studio version is slightly sped up so the key is elevated to a pitch between E and F. That’s why.

No, the guitars were tuned to match the "bell" sound which was slightly sharp of E. The song was not sped up.

For whom the bell tolls is tuned slightly higher than normal I think maybe 50 cents higher so that’s why it sounds different. It was recorded in E minor, but the recording was slightly sped up

If you want to jam with it just go to YouTube and look up “For Whom the Bells Toll Standard Tuning”.

This is a common occurrence with older songs recorded to tape… Highway to Hell is another for example.

A bunch of misinformed people here saying the song was sped up. The instruments were tuned slightly higher to match the pitch of the "bell" sound.

correct me if I’m wrong but since it was recorded with analog, it had to be sped up in order to get a higher pitch.

No they just tuned up their instruments

Art of guitar on YouTube has an interesting video about his cover band playing FWTBT with a sample of the bell(anvil) that’s tuned sharp and they’re in standard and it was maddeningly dissonant

Just check the guitar tab book.

Wouldn't it technically be e minor blues scale maybe because of the inclusion of the A# chord? Like all of metallicas songs essentially
