Who gave the best performance at the show this past weekend?
Maybe not the best on a like musical level alone but for me it's very hard for anything on the show to top that performance of Mama I'm Coming Home. I found it breathtaking to be honest.
They kept cutting to that girl crying in the crowd and it was making me tear up.
I enjoyed seeing Tool without all of the visuals and Maynard hiding at the back of the stage in the shadows. It was cool just seeing them rock out like a “normal” band (not that their usual show isn’t amazing in its own right, but it just feels a bit “detached” to me, and you can tell that they’d rather you pay attention to the visuals and the music itself, rather than the dudes playing it… But as a fan I like feeling the connection to the people playing it)
I'm not a huge fan of Tool but it was definitely cool seeing them out of their element. Their cover was great as well.
Does he still hide?? I haven't heard that happen in years.
He doesn't hide. He's on a riser next to the drums, as he has been for many years. He's explained why.
Tony Iommi’s guitar tone. My God. I saw them live on the 13 tour and I was blown away by how ferocious it sounds in person. In my opinion they’ve never captured it on album.
It sounded just as good here.
I've noticed that too, older live versions of children of the grave for example. Incredible that he invented the whole thing and that noone has topped it after half a century of progress.
Metallica did it on the black album perhaps, with a ton of studio trickery. Van halen has to be mentioned too.
Honest to fucking god, YungBlud KILLED IT with "Changes", and was my absolute favorite act of the entire show. I am shocked at how much I loved his performance. 2nd favorite might be Lzzy Hale's vocals on The Ultimate Sin... Holy shit she can scream! And how fucking great to see Ellefson on stage!
Yungblud just sounded like mindless shouting to me
Slayer and Metallica killed it. Steven Tyler sounded great too. Sabbath and Ozzy were cool to see as well even if their performances weren't top tier (which is to be expected, not a complaint)
I have a bias, so of course I’m going to say Metallica. For “1A”, I would go with Lamb of God. Randy sang his ass off and it was very clear that he was putting everything he had into it and it meant a lot to him.
Their Children of the Grave cover slayed. I loved the whole show, but that performance had me grinning ear to ear.
Nuno did
I had never listened to Rival Sons before and now I’ve been listening to them nonstop for the last few days. Great Western Valkyrie and Feral Roots are two of the best albums I’ve ever heard, and they have so many more for me to get through.
Sabbath themselves were the best performance though. A little out of practice you could tell, but it was such a special thing to see and they did not disappoint. Ozzy killed it, Tony’s guitar tone is disgusting, Geezer has aged like magic, and seeing Bill back there for the first time in a lifetime was a much needed exclamation point for the band.
Rival Sons are awesome!!! They rocked
Rival Sons are amazing. Jay is one of the top 5 singers out now.
Just mad Lars didn't bust out the purple kit however perhaps he didn't want to obershadow.
Aside from obviously Metallica, I had never listened to Halestorm before, and I was pleasantly surprised, the vocalist was incredible, to the point that I actually went back to rewatch their set after the event ended. An excellent voice for the style.
Also, I missed Slayer more than I expected. Tom is definitely one of the best voices in Thrash, and it blew me away to see the band in SUCH great shape, it was a delight, with absolutely amazing energy.
Beyond those two in particular, everyone was great. It was one of the best concerts I’ve ever had the chance to attend (virtually), and honestly, I can’t imagine we’ll see anything quite like it again for a looong time
I agree it was really amazing to see all those bands and the super groups.
Metallica is my favorite band, but I'm glad you liked Halestorm. I first saw them about a year and a half ago and loved it. I only started listening to the band when Vicious came out and became a fan.
Seen a lot of comments saying Slayer really got the crowd moving. I saw a video where there were 5 different pits going during their set
It got up to 9 during raining blood
Nuno killed it
Guns n Roses
I love how they covered 4 Sabbath tracks in a row and two of them were deep cuts.
Cool to see them playing light as a 5 piece.
Tool sounded incredible.
Is there pro shot footage of the entire concert? It seems like most pro vids are getting pulled down.
You had to buy a ticket to even watch the replay of the official video, and I’m pretty sure you could only view up to a couple of days after the show. Videos on YouTube are going to continue to get taken down for sure.
Top 5 are Sabbath, Ozzy, Tool, Metallica and Halestorm for me. Sabbath being 1 of course
Slayer
Corey Taylor
Gojira, Tyler, Nuno, Slayer
Probably Gojira
It's a toss up between AIC, Tool and Metallica. I loved Guns set and Steven Tyler was excellent too. Youngblud killed it on his cover of Changes. Everyone played a blinder on the day.
Best musicians of the day were Geezer Butler, Nuno, KK Downing and Danny Carey.
Yungblud had an amazing performance.
The Supergroup with Steven Tyler was incredible
Nuno was amazing
Nuno can seriously play anything and make it sound as accurate as the record. And yet he is somehow still underrated
Definitely was, I'm seeing Extreme for the first time in a few weeks
I agree! They were on fire!
