I’ve gone ahead and created a mockup for tin as a new metal, featuring an ingot, nugget, weapons, and tools. I based its coloring off the metals used by the pillagers!
None really. Unless the vanilla game gets a tool overhaul to make them multi-dimensional (which I'll note goes against their historical practice of not drastically changing old content), more metals is just going to add bloat to an uninteresting system.
Its not bad that its uninteresting; as long as they don't add too many variants. Tool tiers being a linear progression with a few variants is fine. Tool tiers having many tiers is just confusing if you don't give them benefits.
When my tin pickaxe works the same speed as iron but lasts 64 more uses
Tin has a mohs hardness of 1,5 compared to gold with 2,5. So more like 10 uses in total, if we go by that logic.
I would love if they gave us iron variants of all the copper blocks. The decorative possibilities would be endless.
Copper bulbs and lanterns seem to be exclusive to their metals by design
Same with copper grates and iron bars
It would be neat, but iron blocks are just too expensive for that to work unless you have an iron farm.
There were some older mods that made decorative iron blocks using 1 or 4 ingots that are a bit more feasible for such an idea. 9 ingots per block used decoratively is the reason why copper ore is so plentiful; to make that viable.
The hole in the ground starter iron farm produces like 800/hr and can be made night 1 if you find a village. I think iron is cheap, but i get your point.
I wouldn't balance game mechanics around iron farms. Remember the target audience for decorative blocks often has limited overlap with the group of players who make iron farms.
it cuts both ways though, as a community we can't say that copper tools are pointless and also say that iron decoratives are too expensive. there's room for both and I want both. besides, it costs nothing for creative players. honestly, I wouldn't even call a decorative block a game mechanic in that sense. in fact, I want full iron parity with copper. give me cut iron, iron stairs, iron grates. and the other way, copper doors and pressure plates. and for that matter metal parity with stone, give me both metal walls, and metal levers and buttons! give me gold parity with iron and copper! give me an the metal chests! give me all the wood variants of chests and buttons! give me copper horse armor! give me gold golems!
you get the point, I don't care if it's balanced for resource collection mechanics. make the usage and interaction whatever makes sense, but there's no right way to play so there shouldn't be an artificial limit to options
I’m in my game with both and it’s so sick. I’m on a survival realm with a throne room made half with emerald and diamond blocks as a base, with a stain glass window in the diamond ore ceiling, with enormous marble and copper pillars supporting the structure. It’s not unreasonable to have a fully functional beacon in survival. Last time I got back from mining I brought up 127 diamonds, and last time I went to the nether I came back with 3 stacks of gold ore. The villagers trade for like 60 emeralds/day
People will be able to afford iron blocks, have you seen the iron costs that go into redstone?
Agreed. I don't hate the addition of copper tools, but it feels to me as pointless. Still gonna go from stone to iron asap like always.
They way I've seen it, is that on a new playthrough I'm likely to make copper armour in the first 10 minutes, saving iron for tools. Then, using the armour to survive cave mobs easier I can collect the remaining iron I need for iron armour.
As far as I can see, that 10-15 minute window is copper's only time to shine.
I see your point. To me a shield does that already. It's just 1 iron ingot. And it last long enough to have iron tools and armor.
For you.
Plenty of other people play Minecraft at a much slower pace. I for instance like to roam around looking for a nice place to set up shop before doing basically any mining, then I like to get started building a nice visually pleasing house before mining seriously. My brother hates wasting iron and isn't the kind of player to abuse mechanics to make an iron farm so having a tier above stone but with less utility than iron is great for him. Copper tools can also work well as loot that doesn't affect progression so much, if they replaced iron tools in villages and other common structures players will still get a jumpstart if they find them at the beginning of the game without instantly unlocking several new steps of progression. It's also another step in difficulty if they design a new mob that uses a copper weapon rather than being stuck at stone or iron.
I understand copper tools. There is a place for them with more casual players who don't collect a lot of resources. I remember when I first started playing the game I rarely went mining enough to have iron to spare, so stone tools were used a lot. Copper armor really makes a lot more sense, as leather armor is way too expensive to call first armor set, and iron armor requires quite a bit of mining to obtain.
I think copper is probably the last niche in the tool tier system that remains. If you want any more tools you either need to make mechanics like enchantability mean something, or start adding non-stat differences and other incomparables.
People often try to complicate simple things, yet they somehow haven't realized that they like it cuz it's simple. If you want variants, add more enchantments
The only other tier that I can see being a viable idea is one that would offer a netherite alternative; one that is not lava proof, but if it falls into the void in the end it pops back up at your bed, and if you fall in with armor made of it you teleport there. Name it something like Purpurite which by the way is an actual mineral
I almost agree, though I've seen too many bad "netherite alternative" suggestions that I'm a bit turned off to the idea.
Void imunity is better than most, makes it properly end themed instead of lava of nether themed.
Not a metal, but I want more uses for amythest shards and quartz
Same here, I think amethyst could have some more decorative blocks.
I want amethyst stairs.
Use for the resin ingot would be cool too
Tools an armour is not the way to go
Uranium crossbow
Okay Oppenheimer
I am become death, destroyer of villages
...chainmail!! and i would like them to be craftable
as well as a new update to make you be able to craft chainmail armor!!!1
I think it should keep its stats but give additional bonus to ranged damage and/or a bit of walking speed bonus
They should make it do extra protection to swords, axes, etc, but less protective to stuff like an arrow.
Chainmail is both weaker to piercing weapons like arrows and heavier than plate armour, so no on both accounts. I feel like Chainmail should be as good as iron armour, still be zombie drop only for the rarity factor but have a few unique and interesting enchantments that make it actually sensible to use.
I think it's fine if it stays uncraftable, but I wouldn't mind if Mojang cooks up something to incentivize more players to actually get it and use it
Chainmail isn't really used for tools, just armour. Craftable chainmail would be cool tho.
Craftable smarter scrubber?
I didn’t even particularly want copper tools, let alone anything else.
None, it's just turning into Terraria. We've needed an intermediate between leather and iron that wasn't basically a trophy item (chainmail) for a long time, but if it all gets balanced out where wood/stone/copper/iron aren't in a cluster by themselves away from diamond, there's no need for new metals. Old items need to be given new use, there's plenty already in the game that only have one or two purposes.
Old items need to be given new use
THIS. Mojang should genuinely revisit the older features more instead of just spamming with new ones and I'm honestly glad that they actually move in this direction (craftable saddles, balanced leads and lodestones, minecart upgrade)
I mean the Ores doesn't have to have an armor and tool set it can be for upgrading like netherite or can be used to other things not armor set.
Illager metal, the illlagers seem to have their own version of iron/steel for their equipment, of like to see it expanded apon more then just a texture change
This was the inspiration for the tin textures.
Unfortunately, tin is way too similar in color to iron, so, what realistically could tin do that won’t give Mojang an incessant battle of if the use should go to tin or iron?
I think they just shouldn’t add tin. Remember that a lot of iron blocks like chains and smithing tables aren’t the same light gray that ingots are
Tin plus iron makes steel, stronger than iron but weaker than diamond. Edit: I forgot for some reason that tin has nothing to do with steel. A forgery to purify charcoal instead would be ideal, to add it to melted iron or smth to make steel. Not too much new mechanics tho, too modlike
except steel is made up of iron and carbon, which are two materials that already exist in Minecraft...
Oh mb
it's fine :)
Tin could still be used with copper to make bronze. It'd give copper an additional use, atleast
Yeah.. made the edit to fix my mistake
Strictly speaking, steel isn't made by adding carbon to iron. Rather, iron ore is often naturally found with too much carbon and the steel making process is meant to reduce that to the proper level and add trace amounts of additives to make the steel stronger.
IMO, I don't think I want to see steel making in the base game as I can't see them doing it justice. The netherite "alloy" already hurts enough with how poor of a representation of alloys it is. If you want to start mixing metals bronze is the place to start by combining tin and copper.
My vote goes to brass. I want to dispense tubas on villagers and turn the village into a marching band.
Tin and copper to make bronze maybe, tin and iron making steel would just make no sense
I'll go for that.
Maybe able to use the nuggets with copper to make wiring for more redstone and more rail options
Tin would make iron softer IRL. If you want steel, use what's already in the game. Coal. Blast furnace can have two slots for input and one for fuel. Iron ingot and one coal and it smelts for a little longer than raw iron smelting in a blast furnace but faster than regular furnace smelting.
Copper and tin make bronze. Maybe that's what you were thinking.
None. Seriously I think they shouldn’t.
Since copper got added, I've been in the belief that it would have been better to use it as an alloy. Like 6 copper ingots and 2 iron ingots makes 4 bronze ingots. Mostly because they make copper so plentiful it feels too easy to get armor now
I always thought they should've only added copper tools and no armor. Would've given leather armor more time to shine too
Unfortunately, that’s not how bronze works.
They’re not going to add tin just for it to be alloyed into bronze
I want Silver to be a thing. That way we get the trio of Copper, Silver, and Gold.
Nothing really fancy. I'd give Silver tools Iron Tier and faster speed, but less durability than iron and more than gold. Essentially what Copper is now but for after Iron. Make Husks have a chance of dropping these ingots too.
Other than that, Platinum is another that comes to mind. Though it'd still be similar to how I described Silver.
The issue with these two though is their colors being close to that of Iron and may confuse players.
I just want a tier that's faster than Iron but not as efficient as Diamond. Sure enchanting Iron with Efficiency exists, but the resources required to get there isn't really cheap or fast to come by.
Steel from coal + iron in a blast furnace
Tungsten, if you know you know
Tin maybe? So we could alloy for Bronze
Time for the bronze age.
They should nerf diamond spawns because they are too easy and add something above iron but below diamond
Aluminum tools mine as quickly as gold but have durability of iron. It should be rarer than gold
forget real world metals.
VIBRANIUM.
i guess rose gold but i think for right now it's good
and this is why copper was never added to begin with. Jesus I feel sorry for the devs right now
If they add more ore I’d hope it’s to make things that wouldn’t make sense with any other ore.
Probably some sort of Enderium. I'm not calling it Enderite, that would get confusing with the Endermites
Copper is completely pointless and will most likely barely be used by the vast majority of players so I don't think there needs to be anymore
Chain mail being craftable, and amethyst infused chain armour, same prot as gold but enchants are better
Minecraft multiplayer server economies lie in ruins, after the chain mail currency depreciates to zero.
They’ll get over it
Quartz and Amethyst, less durability than gold but even better enchantability
is enchantability already a feature of some items in game? i assume you mean a greater likelihood of receiving better enchants
That is what they mean, yes. Enchantability is how the game internally refers to how likely an enchantable item is to receive better enchantments.
Overworldite, overworld equivalent to netherite
Plutonium
We definitely need dinnerbonium a scarce ore that defies the laws of reality itself. When wearing dinnerbonium armor fall up instead of down.
The color looks too close to diamond.
I'd like them to do simple steel. There's way too big of a gap in durability between iron and diamond.
Aluminum. Add it to iron oxide and we'll have thermite. You can do a bunch of things with aluminum!
Well now that they added an armor between nothing and iron would be nice to have armor between iron and diamonds
while obsidian already exists it would be cool to see it as a tool
Alloys! Upgrade the blast furnace for a secondary input or make a new Alloyer work station. Iron + coal = steel, gold + copper = rose gold, add tin for Copper + Tin = Bronze!
Know what. If someone can recreate Tinker's Construct to a current version, I'd be down for it with all the smelting mechanics, alloys, and one's that were added with that mod.
All the ones in Terraria.
copper + tin make bronze. I'd rather have bronze than copper or tin tools.
Emerald, I am begging for emerald armour, I need my 2012 dreams to come true😭
Lead for lead poisoning.
Whoa this looks really good!
I would like to see the metal that trial spawners/keys/vaults are made of appear in more places in the game. Not as tools/armor, there isnt much of a point in that aside from causing bloat, but I feel like these unobtainable/ancient materials should have more things expanding on them
Uranium 🤤
Could be the first edible ore
Honestly I’d rather get some unique armour sets that aren’t craftable that you can find in structures that give you some form of buff as a set bonus or something. Maybe something to bridge the gap between iron and diamond for people who like exploring for structures?
Add an ore to the End that's extremely rare and only on the bottom of the islands + Poisons you when mining it (just to make it more frustrating). Make it be able clear out an area of blocks rather than a single one, as well as having area attacks for the swords. Can't think of anything for the armour lol
None, unless mojang has a reason to add them that enhances the game. For many years now copper has just been a very expensive building block
Aluminum or Tin
We need Steel in the game, same effectiveness as iron but lasts way longer
I want gold revisited. Give it some more uses.
Where else is there to go? Between stone and iron is already cutting it close to unnecessary. I guess a special pickaxe to be able to insta-mine deep slate would be nice, but that’s the only expansion I can see barring a new dimension.
They can add a new End metal eventually. (Just don’t give it a generic name like Enderite like everyone keeps suggesting)
For now, though, they need to address how iron is used in way too many crafting recipes. Give copper some more actual uses before randomly introducing a new metal that ultimately doesn’t get many proper uses
Netherite needs more uses than just tools and armor, too, especially since lodestones were taken away from them
Titanium could be cool. It's could be the same strength as iron but slightly slower and have super high durability.
titanium
None. Why do we need more?
Not metal. But give me my FREAKING EMERALD TOOLS AND ARMOR
I mean we’ve got copper, you added tin, so why not bronze
I want to say I want about half the periodic table to be added but I don't think people will like that much. But I think they should add silver and let us make rose gold alloy.
Bismuth, found in the end.
Steel, that has existed in flint and steel for so long yet isn't it's own ore
Rose gold, steel, some kind of End netherite equivalent. I'd like more variety in the pre existing tiers be explored more instead of adding new in between.
I’ve seen a lot of mock-ups for branching endgame paths for metals. Different specialized ores for different utilities. I’ll admit, I’m actually pretty fond of the concept, I think it allows for more customization to individual play styles and avoids everyone running around in only Netherrite.
With that in mind, I’d love to see endgame metals like a Mythril-type only found on mountain peaks, or some kind of sea gem, or Maybe even an End metal. Each having different boons, but requiring different materials to make into useable ingots that can be used like Netherrite as an upgrade to Diamond
End Silver.
Silver tools and armor are as strong as iron but as enchantable as gold.
Veins of the ore would commonly generate in the outer end islands.
5% of enderman who in the end would hold an end stone block.
0.25% of enderman who spawn in the end would hold an endstone silver ore block.
Killing the ender dragon converts many endstone blocks of the central end island into endstone silver ore.
Tin so I can make bronze
Uranium so I can make nukes
But more importantly am I going to need to rewax my armour and tools every time I hit or get hit?
If I wear a full kit does it take longer for my gear to weather? Does using them deweather them?
Mithril
Idk why copper is needed, most everyone I know rushes to diamond/netherite. I usually have diamond the first few days of playing.
combibation of two metals like copper and iron
steel, we already have the ingredients to make it & a blast furnace, so why not?
Sulphur, so we can craft gunpowder without farming. Maybe magnetite which could give us new kinetic mechanisms that are more versatile than pistons.
Obsidian
indium, it's completely useless but you can shape any tool into any other tool. i just like indium
Breaks after 1 hit
I feel like coppers a bit pointless, just my opinion. It’s not very hard to find iron, but it’s complicated to find diamonds if you’re not constantly mining. I kinda wish they’d offer something in between iron and diamond.
i mean if you want to add tin then we might as well add bronze (copper + tin alloy) for a toolset in between iron and diamond
steal
Tin, so it can be combined with copper to make tinbronze
This ain't Terraria lol
I'd like more materials, but I don't find the tools interesting. Our current system is pretty good, but the new tools would either need new features (like what if copper didn't break but rusted and became useless until it got struck by lightning on a stand?) or they don't become armor at all and just have different uses, like how amythst makes tinted glass.
Lapis Lazulingot
Pufferanium
Kelpium
Coralstone
Emerald Bars
Brozne (different to bronze where instead of being a pale gray yellow, its pale gray green)
Stevantite
etc...
such is the way with unlimited possibilities
Stop. Get some End stuff
Steel, purely for flint and steel, tho it could make a cool armor. Maybe make it by combining iron with something and if they make tools and armor, it could be iron tier but slightly stronger, with a durability between iron and diamond. Block-wise it could have decorative steel beam pillar blocks, steel bars/fence, and steel scaffolding.
Personally, if any armor is added, I think only steel and emerald would work. Emerald gear could be similar to gold in speed with slightly better durability and mines blocks at iron levels.
Isn't it a little too, blue, for tin?
Smelt IRON + IRON + IRON + IRON + IRON = DAMASCUS INGOT
Damascus tools and items for multiple uses.
So Iron < Damascus < Diamond
No metals I just would like to see Ender Dragon Scales or something you can use to upgrade your tools and armor like Netherite
Tin could work as being between copper and iron by itself (not useful) while being able to be combined with copper and made into bronze, which would be between iron and diamond.
Haveing tin and copper means bronze right?
I remember way back in the day when the idea of Emerald Armour and Tools were all the rage and would be better than diamond. While the better than diamond idea is laughable now considering how easy it is to get emeralds, I think it would still be fun for emerald to get its own set.
Quartz and lapis magic staff
Personally I think they should go and hire the people that make Tinkers' Construct and other progression mods.
They should add gemstones that can be used for decoration or armor decoration. Maybe some different buffs when slotted into an armor slot.
There needs to be something between iron and diamond, and your idea of tin would work. If not this, then brass, bronze, or something else.
Bronze? Stronger than copper, weaker than iron, but also more enchantable. Bronze is crafted with copper and tin ofc. Also steel, forged from iron in a blast furnace.
unless they change the tool system in some way (that certain tools while being weaker than netherite have an advantage, for example maybe one material could make every block drop double the materials or something, which might be even better than netherite depending on the overall performance) no because netherite is everything you need in tools
if anything, maybe a metal only found in the end. more stuff in the end would be great. maybe something similar to gravitite from the aether mod
Platinum
I’d love something between iron and diamond. Maybe something with a bit more durability as iron, better enchantability and same defensive base value?
No more tbh
Steel, gold-copper aloy, diamond tipped tools
Gold golem and netherite golem
Tungsten, malachite, beryllium, iridium, steel, silver I want to recreate the industrial revolution
I would love to see a system of alloying, like they add lead, tin and aluminium, so you can make solder, bronze, brass and steel(iron and coal already exist) by smelting them together in an interface similar to the brewing stand.
Amethyst or prismarine
Bronze and steel are obvious. But we don't need more materials, we need to make existing ones useful.
not a metal, but I would like to see rubies return as a sort of alternate trading method, maybe to be worth like half an emerald in villager trading with some redstone uses on the side
Goonerite
Silver
simply because I'm sick of almost every mod having their own silver
Its so silly feeling say this, but - Im not new to minecraft, yet im new.
So arrows, why is it (and if there is im sorry) that we can't make silver, gold, copper, metal and so on arrows?
Really the only next step we have is combining ore to make new and stronger ore.
Uranium! Inflict radiation burns! Introduce hazmat suits to safely collect and wield it!
We don't need more tools, what I really want is to be able to craft walls, decorative blocks and stuff from iron, diamonds and netherite, when the last realm I was on clos we I had close to 5 shulkers of diamonds from mining and trading. It would have been nice to build a house with decorative diamond blocks
tungsten cube
Flint. In games like the Blockheads flint tools make more sense than cobblestone. Also, chain mail is way too rare for how little it protects. I think tin could open up the idea of bronze age stuff but overall tools have other issues besides more levels
Copper is still kinda inferior to other metals so I really don't see a point in adding another ore that's gonna be treated by the player base as useless for years until Mojang just gives up and makes equipment from it yet again
Ender oreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Copper isn't a good metal for armor. It's heavy and malleable, but still better than gold
Non
Ender themed
Add tin but introduce alloys
Not really a metal - but having Amethyst as a tier between Iron and Diamond could be an idea. The tiers are very front-loaded as it stands right now and it would be neat to have some more mid-game gear.
Make copper same as iron and iron fill the current iron to diamond gap
I think the Oreganized mod has interesting takes on Silver and Lead
Emeralds
titanium could be a good alternative to diamond. it wouldnt be upgradable to netherite, still keeping diamond's usefulness and maybe slightly more fast than iron but slightly less fast than diamond, but more durability than diamond. that way, you have to make a choice:
- Upgradable, less durability, Diamond Pickaxe that costs more valuable resource?
OR
- Non-Upgradable, less efficient, more durability Titanium Pickaxe that costs a slightly less valuable resource than diamond but more rare than gold perhaps
Then theres also the ability to perhaps make a drill that can be repaired by 'Electric Titanium' or something, which is just titanium surrounded by 8 redstone which makes 4 nuggets of the stuff. 9 nuggets to make 1 Electric Titanium Ingot
Ngl I don't even think we need copper so I see no point in a new set of tools. I would like copper more if it had some unique gimmick like gold, which is fast and fragile. At the topic of gold, it really should have iron levels. I like gold, but it's barely usable because you can't mine most of the ores
I think including more metals for nothing but minor mining speed and durability changes are boring. Almost everyone would immediately skip most of them to stick with the fastest initial til they get to iron, then straight to diamond. I think copper is the last metal they can include in that way.
However, I do think having a bunch of tool metals would be cool if there were actually specific uses for them. These are just top of my head examples, but maybe copper breaks buildings faster, diamond has an automatic efficiency 1 that stacks with the actual enchantment, netherite allows mining one block further, etc.
Slight variations in pure stat numbers are boring, but abilities can be interesting and fun. And not every tool or piece of armor using that material needs to have the same extra facet, so each one will feel unique and useful to at least some extent
I'd like to see Bronze between Iron and Diamond
Echo shards could have their own tool set. Maybe make it between iron and diamond but also have the gimmick of losing durability slower when in the dark, up to 30% slower depending on the light level.
terraria platinum coin
Hmmmm, maybe emerald?
I know you said metal, but, eh. oh well
But Instead of emerald sword, tools, and armor...
Emerald wand or other magic thingies?
Like, an emerald crown that extends potion duration on you, or a wand that shoots a magic bolt (similar to an arrow), or magic boots that... Uh... Have speed on them?
Maybe emerald gear could have Beacon or potion effects on them instead of enchantments?
Quartz could potentially be the gap between iron and diamond
2 Iron bars could be smelted with coal/charcoal to produce 1 Steel bar.
Steel tools and armour would have better enchant ability and durability than diamond, but be slightly worse in terms of performance, while still being better than Iron.
Lapis Lazule. Crying Obsidian. Redstone. Bamboo.
I'd love to see overhaul of whole progression, which i'm fully aware will never happens. So for now, not any at all. If you want to have preference for other metals and alloys, and so on - the rustic block game has more of this type of content. Also, terrafirmacraft.
Emerald, amethyst,redstone
Amethyst as a tier between iron and diamond
More mystical metals like Orichalcum or Adamantine
Titanium
Obsidian. Basically you just put obsidian in a grindstone to make refined obsidian, then turn it into tools. They'd be a bit less effective than diamond but also a little more durable.
cobalt, neodymium, and magnetite
bro tin looks like diamond but better
Maybe Bronze and Steel? Steel + Coal in a foundry to get Steel and copper and iron/tin to get bronze. Both could be very nice for building and more decoration in general. Steel could be usefull to craft chainmail!
Aside from end ores none
Unless they make it that you need copper to mine iron and not stone copper tools are going to be useless filler
Tungsten
As much as I like new content, adding more metals in the game and just being able to craft the basic armour and tools with them, without any unique benefits to it is going to be boring. I don't mind if they add more metals, but there should be at least something unique about it so that there's a point of crafting it in the game.
Copper armour and tools is fine and all, but honestly it doesn't take too long to upgrade from stone to iron. And you only craft the items you need, you don't craft an iron hoe, just cause you found iron.
Anyways I really like the colour of the tin metal, so just because of that I wouldn't mind it being added in the game. 🙃
Uranium
YO, CCSHADOWSTUFF!? I love your mods!!
If you're adding tin, just give us bronze stuff.
Emerald gear for an alternative to diamond mayby
(Vote has already ended)
