Wet clothes while on duty

I f a police officer gets wet, dirty, does he go home and change? Or does he carry dry clothes?

You just go home and change. Same thing happens when you get bloody or you happen to shart

Always keep a spare set in the locker/squad.

What about the guys last night in Clayton county in that flood with the cars assisting people? I'm gonna say in situations like that you probably get to go back to the station and shower or home and come back. No telling what contamination was in that water and in that unexpected situation where you're helping people I'd hope you'd get to go do that afterwards.

Gotta pay attention to the forecast. Always keep your rain gear handy. But the nature of the job is such that one can easily get stuck in a downpour at the start of the shift and then get sent from call to call without a break and have to wear wet clothes all night or day long. Anyone who has been on the job for any length of time has had it happen to them.

But hey, the pay and benefits are great, and you get to hang out with the finest people so who cares about a little bad weather? :P

I always wonder why the officers rarely wear rain gear on the show? Surely they have something in their vehicle instead of getting soaking wet.

My guess if there's weather forecasted like last night there's a decent chance they'll be out in the elements assisting with traffic, etc. and they'll carry a change of clothes with them.

I remember watching a past episode of season 3 where Curtis mentioned where he always kept an extra uniform in his patrol car for these exact reasons. I was wondering the same thing when I saw the K9 officer tracking across a small creek.

Either one can happen. It largely will depend on the department and where that officer lives. If it’s feasible an officer can run home to change. Some agencies have a locker room where officers change before and after work. Mostly likely those guys have extra uniforms and equipment in their locker. If the officer is in a smaller community, he’ll likely run home and change. I worked for a rural Sheriff’s department and even though we had take home cars, I kept an extra uniform in my locker so depending on distance, I could change either place if I needed to.
