I am a long time fan, going back to Live P.D., but honestly what is the screening process for choosing officers to follow. There have been some greats, and some have continued, but there are also others that are literally lawsuits waiting to happen.
The guy from Knox, TN, who says his favorite thing is to take people to prison? And is 'shocked' to provide a positive service to people when he helps with a car lock out....Probably not the best mentality. Others who blatantly lie to people about their rights when they do actually know them? Officers who use scare tactics to get compliance?
I guess time will only tell, but the show started with officers of high integrity, and seems to be a completely different show now. I guess they are playing to a premium audience who can afford the top Cable package to get 'Reelz'.
Being a cop is a hard and thankless job, I get that. I come from a family of law enforcement and even police chiefs, but this show is not putting our best forward.
Feel free to downvote me, but it is not the same show as it started.
Lets make it REALY interesting, and have a decent lawyer on the desk!
What’s crazy is I feel like Dan is an attorney - he at least went to law school. He never mentions it on OPL.
The problem is conflict of interest.
In one of the early seasons of Live PD there was a deputy from Lake County, IL, that actually was a lawyer before she went into law enforcement. She was really good to watch.
I'm watching Live PD, not on Patrol. There is no host on this version. It's on Mondays 8-9 on A&E.
You are not watching Live PD... LPD has not been on the air for five years.
I mean, by definition it is. It is a show called Live PD (which A&E owns), and they are showing footage from when it was first on the air. It just isn't "Live:PD" in the sense fans think of because we believe that 'Live:PD" has become "On Patrol Live." But screaming at people who don't understand that and not fully explaining it doesn't really help anyone.
They have a channel on prime with the 30 minute version of live pd..
Again, that is NOT Live PD!
I don’t pay for reelz. Peacock.
There are officers on every department that other officers cringe when they come up on a scene, even in my little cities department. Sometimes they make it on the show..
I have a question about Live PD, can someone explain to me why the show is advertised as new, is really footage from 2020?
Live PD isn't new, it ended in 2020. And it's not airing anywhere since then.
Monday night A&E 9:00- 1000, it claims, it's new!
That is not Live PD...
As someone said, Live PD, was the original show that ran from 2016-2020. It was 3 hours each night and hosted by Dan Abrams and it was aired on A&E. Because tensions got crazy around police in 2020 (George Floyd protests among many others) A&E ceased production.
Show creators and Dan Abrams found a new home on Reelz tv in like I think 2022. But A&E still owned the show Live PD, so they created a new show that is virtually the same as Live PD named "On Patrol Live". That can be watched on Reelz TV Channel (which is only on the highest tier cable plans), or on Peacock. Same show essentially but not owned by A&E.
It sounds like A&E decided to resurrect reruns of the show and put them on Monday nights with no host and call them new. There will never be any new footage watching "Live PD". The current show is On Patrol Live.
Yes!! And also I’ll add on - why don’t they put the date each show is from on the repeats. It’s frustrating sometimes b lol
You must be watching the shortening versions on the A&E network. Many are hosted by Sean Larkins who was on the show when it was call "Live Pd."
The actual live version is on Reelz and is entitled "On Patrol: Live." Aka OP Live
For the show? It appears they are following very fit, very attractive officers under 28ish…none of these cops look like any of the officers in my area. Some of these look like they could be fitness models.
Many of the cops I see are in their 30’s - early 50’s and are in average - slightly out of shape. I just wonder if a lot of these departments on the show are also home to law enforcement programs that hire young people who just finished the course?
I am shocked that a reality show is following young, fit people!!!
My son is a Deputy Sheriff. It is just like any other job. There are good doctors and bad ones. Good lawyers and bad ones. There are good cops and bad cops. He works a shift now with two other Deputies that he does not think highly of. One is lazy as all get out and one has an ego that his body can't cash. I think it is good to see all types on the show. Police are human and therefore flawed.
Others who blatantly lie to people about their rights when they do actually know them?
Can you give some examples?
I watch the show mostly for background noise, but more than once I've heard officers threaten jail as coercion to cooperate when they have absolutely nothing to jail somebody over.
Yeah, I'd like to hear this explanation, too.
And don't forget our nearest and dearest....Jerry from Patterson NJ.
The fact that 90% of these are in a city's "Honey Hole" for high crime activity should not go un-noticed. When Volusia county, Fl was on, everything was in Deltona. It is a Sh*t-hole of a place to live in most of the area. They know they can get some activity for the show there. I think the sheriff realized that an bowed-out since there is so much tourist activity in that county near the beaches. Daytona Beach pd has a good group of officers except for a couple( you know who you are mullet boy). All of the Maher bros are examples of how policing ought to be done.
Some of this stuff is pretty eye opening as a local. The Daytona PD “no pursuit” policy really irks me. They say they are not allowed to pursue, but they drive around at high speeds in pursuit with no lights and sirens. Flying through intersections, neighborhoods, and apartment complexes at high speeds attempting to box a car in with no lights or sirens is, imho, reckless. I’m honestly shocked that no change to that policy has come about after seeing it on live tv for so long.
Our local PD in an Orlando Bedroom Community say they follow Florida Highway Patrols Pursuit policy but, they tend to make things up as they go along. Especially when I asked the cheif about pursing the Dirtbikes and ATV's that come down the Main Road on Thursday nights. FHP has changed their for the better in my opinion getting more of the dangerous Cars and Motorcycles off the road my local PD still balks quite a bit at that..
A lot on this show definitely display why people hate or distrust officers
I am fine with all the officers. OPL is documenting real world policing.
And suspect even the officers we think are a "little out there", tone things down for the show. There are dozens of police channel videos on Youtube, which show mostly dash and officer cameras. Those officers are much more colorful than what we see on OPL.
I suspect the police departments choose officers that they feel will do the best on TV.
I thought James Casey from Arizona was a great officer to follow
He was! Oh--they GOTTA bring back Arizona Dept. of Public Safety (State Troopers) or at least Pinal County Sheriff's Office. 😃👍🏻
I know this is controversial, but the guys from Baton Rouge Parish, who wore the Hawaiian shirts were awesome
Too many of the officers they follow now just love giving long, pompous lectures to raggedy guys on bikes, people missing one brake light, loiterers with half a blunt. Issue the ticket and move on.
I could also do without them rummaging through people’s belongings and laughing at what they find (get a load of this dildo, bruh!), but I guess that’s kind of an OPL staple.
The Maher brothers are the ideal: smart, funny, tough but fair. Find us more Mahers!
You should see how they act behind closed doors. Not not a former LEO but once did IT support for a county jail.
Honestly, good. I love when officers put themselves on blast. This is how bad they are while knowingly being filmed live. People deserve to see it and these cops deserve to be criticized. This is half the reason I love the show.
I think if all we saw was awesome cops from awesome departments we'd feel like we were being sold bullshit. I just wonder how much their bosses pay attention or condone some of this.
Bonuses??
I feel like its a culture pattern. If the name of the county sheriff is on the car, you're going to have a bad time. If their name is printed bigger than the county name, you're probably going to have your civil rights violated.
Yeah, Sir Levon Allen has some of the worst offenders. It's no surprise if your leader acts like that, your deputies will too.
Honestly, we don't know for sure. We believe the departments have a lot of say who they want to represent them, especially since they know their people best.
A lot of earlier officers in the beginning were already tried and tested to be popular on the previous show or even on COPS before that. As new departments join and new officers show up, it is more hit and miss as to who is good or bad. I'm guessing this plays a lot into what you're seeing.
While I'm disinclined to name names, I can't deny there have been some stinkers in Season 2 & 3, but some big hits as well.
I'll say it: some of the Clayton county guys are subpar and come off as downright dangerously stupid at times. Most of them should not be on camera and should be sent for some kind of training or just not be police.
They spent all their training budget buying decals of the bosses name to plaster all over the cars.
It’s up to the departments, and likely depends on working schedule of the officers. OPL may give insight in to which officers poll better (for lack of a better term) but it’s ultimately the departments call.
And unfortunately, some departments/officers aren’t great. It’s kinda been a sticking point in America for the last 50-60 years or so
Long long ago I was a waitress at a motel in Mission Valley down in San Diego and the cops would come in like at 3:00 in the morning when they were just about ready to get off but they'd bring a new recruit a new rookie into me and I being the smart ass sarcastic waitress that I was I would intimidate the hell out of them then he would hold on to his menu and look and see what's on the menu and the menu would Shake and I took the sergeant over to the side and I said do not give him a gun we all laughed... oh by the way they wanted me to be a cop I told him no.
