Through storms, scars, and stolen moments. she’s his anchor, he’s her storm.
Nami yelling at Luffy to get up when Kaido starts talking shit gets me every time and really shows the bond they have and it is wonderful. One Piece has so many of those moments but for some reason that one is very powerful to me.
Sibling coded. Shipping them is just weird to me
Absolutely. Luffy isn't interested in sex or romance. Nami is his relatively sane sister, and he's her wild brother. They're all close, but the East Blue group are the closest.
The East Blue gang truly acts like siblings to each other. Sanji acts more like the yearning classmate with Nami. When you think about it, the OG East Blue gang were a bunch of teenagers in high school and college. Think about it, Luffy, Nami, and Usopp were young enough to be Juniors and Seniors in high school. While Zoro and Sanji are the age of college freshmen or sophomores. They also could technically still be in high school if they got redshirted (a term that means delaying kindergarten) or held back a year, but with Sanji, what are the odds he gets held back?
Sanji got held back because he missed an entire year being in the hospital from all the nosebleeds.
Zoro because he kept getting lost and only attended class 3 times in the year, ironically those 3 days were times he meant to skip.
Thank you
This is beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
Exactly. People refuse to entertain the idea that he could possibly be any kind of ace, and it's frustrating bc they make it abundantly clear he doesn't even have sexual thoughts or interest in BOA HANCOCK and in a 'he can't be faking it' way bc her fruit would have worked on him.
actually you're wrong, there's no way he could possibly be ace
....because ace is his brother
/s
LOLLLLL
Why /s? Is ace not his brother?
/s?
I see him easily going the Goku route though. Goku was pure of heart enough to ride the nimbus. Yet ends up with Chi Chi and two children.
I mean thinking a fictional character is "ace" is just as wild. Some characters don't care at all about relationships until they're ready to settle down. Look at Goku
I mean thinking a fictional character is "ace" is just as wild.
No wilder than thinking they're straight.
I think the refusal comes from oda himself confirming there was attraction there with boa, he just wasnt entranced by it. I'd be totally cool with luffy being ace, but it's oda that makes the canon.
Dude literally spied on her in the bath. If anything, she’s the one female character whose charms he DOESN’T seem immune to.
You and I have very different ideas of what a brother-sister relationship looks like . . .
Attitudes toward peeking and nudity are different in Japan. Oda has confirmed that Luffy isn't interested in romance or sex.
I’ve yet to see someone actually source where Oda says this. The closest we get are statements like “The crew are all in love with adventure!” Which doesn’t imply lack of interest in sex or romance at all. Sanji can still love women, but he loves The All Blue more. That’s all that means.
Luffy is like a lot of Japanese protagonists in that his obliviousness to sexual or romantic situations is played for laughs rather than being intended to imply asexuality or aromanticism.
When this happens, it’s more commonly because the author didn’t want to write a love story into their protagonists journey, or because they didn’t want to alienate fans who might like a particular girl by having the mc end up with a different girl.
Usually, if someone wants their character to be understood as ace, they would just say so. In fact, I’ll wager most authors that have used the “oblivious protagonist” trope have never heard of someone being ace in their lives.
Quoth Oda;
"Wow, I got a lot of questions about this. Is this what you guys are paying attention to? Don't just read manga all day, go study some more!! Okay? Well, I say that, but I do nothing but draw manga. I noticed this when we were drawing it, but if Luffy had a nosebleed when he saw Hancock's body, I think you would all be like "Ehh!?". That's not the Luffy we know. I believe that Luffy reacted to Nami's naked body twice, in volumes 18 and 23, and both times it happened, Usopp was with him! He's the suspicious one! In other words, when Luffy is alone, his reaction is what it was with Hancock. He's interested, but he's not entranced by her. But when he's with Usopp, who's the same age, it's like a kid on a school trip: his bad side comes out!! Yeah, both sides of Luffy feel right to me, so the culprit is definitely Usopp!!"
Luffy isn't entirely asexual, no, but he's just ultimately not all that interested. Not entirely disinterested, but Boa is specifically the most beautiful woman alive. Luffy's had stronger reactions to interesting bugs.
I agree the East Blue Five are the closest of the group, but the way Oda portrays Luffy and Nami's relationship are not like brother and sister... (this are the same examples I mentioned in my comment above)
Examples: Peeping on Naked Nami (and Vivi) in Alabasta, Oda said it's Usopp's fault but still, Luffy as a the supposed "brother" wouldn't let his friend peep on his supposed "sister" and on top of that join him to peep and have a nosebleed afterwards, which in Japanese Culture means getting turned on.
Luffy wrapping his neck all over Nami's body at the end of Fishmen Island, not very sibling like. Nami pressing Luffy's head on her chest in Zou, not very sibling like. Those with siblings know that this isn't how siblings behave.
But them being part of the East Blue 5 is what makes Luffy and Nami's growing relationship so interesting from a shippers point of view, they have fostered a very deep connection, a strong bond and unwavering trust in one another, so a well built up relationship that started from strangers and grew to friends, and maybe at the end of the story, a friendship evolved into romantic love, doesn't get better than that.
But It's ok if you don't see it, but don't dismiss the people who do see them as a potential future couple (end of story), because we have to remember that Japanese Culture portrays love so differently than the Western World, so much so that sometimes it could get confusing.
Oda has confirmed that there won't be any romance between the straw hats and that Luffy especially has no interest in romance or sex. He understands it, he just doesn't care
Luffy knows that Nami isn't above using her sex appeal as a weapon.
Also, Japanese views on sexuality and nudity are different. Anime as a whole has portrayed peeking as mostly harmless fun for years.
Make no mistake, Luffy loves Nami. He broke Arlong for her, and their bond has only grown stronger.
However, with the knowledge of Luffy's general attitude towards romance and sex and what Oda has said, I have little reason to believe they'll end up together, or that Luffy will end up with anyone.
Edit; when Nami and Usopp reunited, she shoved his nose directly between her boobs. She's a tease.
Eh i think they are more like best friends.
Let people ship what they want. If you don't like it, just let it be.
Yeah this thread is weird lol Oda said his story is mainly read by young boys and in his view they don’t care about romance so that’s why he doesn’t include it. People are absolutely throwing their own headcannon with this whole “their siblings” thing. I guarantee Luffy is going to end up with a kid by Nami, Robin, or Boa in a timeskip at the end of the story being raised without him. there’s this running thing about son’s with famous absent fathers, would be shocked if it didn’t continue with Luffy.
I guarantee Luffy is going to end up with a kid by Nami, Robin, or Boa in a timeskip at the end of the story being raised without him
And I guarantee it will not be Nami or Robin and Boa is the longshot option and the only one that has even a snowballs chance in hell to happen. There is literally zero chance of Luffy being romantic with Nami, even less than zero chance with Robin.
My money would be Boa but I have to include the other two because there’s a good chance she doesn’t survive to the end with Blackbeard going for her Devil Fruit and I know I just laid out why we would never see it but there’s a very high chance Oda just off screens it in the epilogue
But it's weird af
Trust me bro you have NOT seen weird ships yet if you think LuNa is weird
Oh i have I just hate them all if they're not canon
What a boring way to think, no offense. Fanfiction is defined by diverging from canon, that's the entire premise. There's a lot of gold if you are willing to suspend disbelief and mine for it. All in all everything is fiction anyways, does it matter if is the official fiction?
I think all fanfic is cringe too🤣 i enjoy the stories as intended by the author. If its not by the author it doesnt matter to me.
I just prefer the source material from the brains it originates from
I think Oda's been saying that in SBS's for about 20 years...
I think Franky got upgraded from "dad" of the crew, to the "pervy grandma" of the crew since Jinbe officially joined...
But, yeah... If they had a deeper relationship, it would be family. Luffy and Nami would be siblings, with Nami being the older sister.
Pervy grandma? Who's the pervy grandpa?
Brooks obviously
Robin is the uncle who likes dark jokes.
Lmao this is perfection 🤌
Am I high or did Oda assign Usopp the mom randomly? I remember being thrown off by that lmao
Makes sense if you remember that Oda said moms are the opposite of adventure, meaning somewhat facetiously that their worry and anxiety makes them keep their kids safe by preventing them from adventuring. Usopp is the scared one who tries to keep them from blatantly dangerous situations.
Aunt robin, Super uncle Franky, gramps Jinbei
exactly nami is his sister 100%.
The way they are portrayed, not sibling coded at all. Peeping on Naked Nami (and Vivi) in Alabasta, Oda said it's Usopp's fault but still, Luffy as a the supposed "brother" wouldn't let his friend peep on his supposed "sister" and on top of that join him to peep and have a nosebleed afterwards, which in Japanese Culture means getting turned on.

What you should realise is that Luffy is stupid and this is anime
My guy
I agree but people can ship whoever to their heart desires. As long as they dont spam it in our face.
In any case, i forget where i hear it from but i believe Oda has never intended for the main crewmates to have any sort of romance between them and is enforcing this throughout the story.
IMO, if there will be any, it would only be after the main story ended and its like a few years later(time skip).
All i can imagine the relationship between Nami and Luffy after the story ends is that Nami will take care of Luffy's child(not between them) much like how Bellmere took care of her, and Luffy is probably dead or not around. This is just a possibility in my mind fantasy of the after story.
Who do you ship Nami with (if at all)
No one.
I don't understand why they're even shipped at all. Nami made it very clear in Thriller Bark that she's not into romance, and Luffy didn't even react when he saw Boa Hancock naked. Luffy, Nami, and Usopp are more like siblings, and they act like siblings too. And Nami and Usopp are my BROTP. I have no doubt Usopp and Nami were blood siblings in a past life.
Is the anime scene in the bath in alabasta at the end of the arc canon? That's the only scene in the anime where Luffy responds to anything sexual but it was a group gag
I believe so yes but some writing in OP isn’t that consistent.
Oda confirmed that Ussop brings out the horny inside Luffy so you have Ussop to blame
I have incredible difficulty imagining even an ounce of horny in Luffy
Luffy has emotions and all sorts of them but his priority is not women rn
Yeah, I think that could be read that as Luffy just going along with his friends. He's all about supporting them.
It is canon. It's in the Manga
People ship shonen mc’s and deuteragonist so often that I don’t think there’s any point in trying to make sense of any ship, atp might as well just let people fantasize bout whatever they want
M
I love that nami is always there for him! She’s his rock 🥹
Sanji has such an impact on them
Its a cool parallel between these two moments but making it about a ship is cringe.
Strong World fueled so much fire.
Luffy randomly being in a panel with another strawhat once in a hundred chapters
OP fans: "Ship!"
Too many unprompted "siblings" comments lol
Dragon should've added the fourth thing you can never stop: the shippers. The fifth thing, people who hate anything shippers do lol
Dragon?? Lmao
I've always liked LuNa, it's my favorite ship.
I love them together, I always had this romantic idea of the two of them sailing the stars after seeing everything on the planet.
If it were to turn romantic it would be such a different form of romance from what you see often:
no unrealistic blushing, no forced misunderstandings, no character fading into the background once they fall in love(Nami would never turn into "just the housewife TM")
Instead you get just pure trust, mutual respect, joy in being near each other always, love of freedom and adventure.
It would be one of the healthiest couples in shonen history
Damn well said, people are so used to Western Media's way of romance that they don't see the potential in this way of writing romance.
A romance for our main hero and heroine with a solid foundation, with a slow burn and build up that Oda has perfected over the years, starting from strangers to friends to a healthy and strong romance (most probably at the end of the story after a timeskip).
Edit: your comment deserves more likes!
They def have a strong bond. 💯 After Luffy saved Nami from her prison sentence that was Arlong, she def became a loyal friend to him. I would say besides Zoro, Nami and Luffy have one of the strongest bonds between them. - Maãlík
I always get big sister vibes from Nami towards Luffy.
These posts are so cringe
I don’t think LUFFY really cares about romance tbh.
what's the right side from?
Skypeia
Sorry got directions messed up its whole cake island
TT Rlmkmhrmkkkull
Need to watch whole cake.. (no I didnt skip, I just watched the rest first)
So…you…skipped it?………….😭

Im not believing u again 😑 « powerscaler »
Umm u still skipped one of THE best arcs to watch Wano?
I also watched DBS off of youtube shorts 😅
Fr tho I think the pacing was slow and I got a bit tited of one piece at the time. Wanted to skip to the fight and then skipped the fight too 🥲

Fr tho I think the pacing was slow and I got a bit tited of one piece at the time. Wanted to skip to the fight and then skipped the fight too 🥲
I mean that's the problem, you shouldn't watch the show just so u can catch up, watch it slowly at your own pace, and I promise the show will feel better
Yeah I think I needed a break lol
Whole Cake is good. Especially after that slog called Dressrosa.
Dressrosa was amazing
They have a special bond for sure. Like when Ruffy discovers sth exciting he would always call her first :,)
I like this paralell a lot but they are anything but sibling coded lmao they are friends and that’s okay.
They are not related they don’t have to be like siblings but they are friends like family and thats important in depicting female-male platonic friendships in media in general. But i guess you are all men and that’s the tea☕️
if you ship them you are probably assexual.
How many times do I have to see this image?
“He’s interested, but he’s not entranced by her.”
I’ll never not be amazed by the human brain’s ability to filter out information that doesn’t support its preferred narrative. Even while sharing said information in a response meant to rebut someone else’s point.
Also:
You- “Luffy has no interest in romance or sex.”
Also you- “Luffy isn’t entirely asexual . . . “
I rest my case.
Too one-sided
