Yesterday I got my pity system legendary and it was just a regular skin you could buy for the old grey overwatch coins :( I wish they took them out of the lootboxes so that if you get a legendary (which is already rare enough in the first place), then it would at least be a shop skin or old battle pass skin or whatever. Waiting for so long just to get a basic legendary almost feels worse than not getting any legendary at all...
It always was roulette in all blizzard games. Imagine playing hearthstone and getting a golden!!! legendary card, but it is MILLHOUSE MANASTORM. (So true for me btw).

I'm going to be a pedant for a second and point out that the Internet is global and what one person is saying can be true while not lining up with what you know. There are $25 (USD) skins in Overwatch which is $40 AUD.
That's not what's happening in this thread (they are doing the math I think for two skins?) but "there are no $40 skins in the game" is too broad for a global game.
at full price they are $30 and that is still insane.

There are 2 skins specific to each Ultimate Battlepass Bundle which is $40 if you want to be sure you get them, otherwise you can only get them the seasons after in lootboxes
yes, it's 2 skins for $40 (plus BP, tier skips, and 2000 coins). there are no $40 skins, but there is a bundle that costs $40 which includes two skins and enough currency for a third one (or 2 bps) and the $10 battle pass.
there are issues with the bundle, but it is still a bundle that has several items, so my original point stands: there are no $40 skins in the game, only bundles cost $40 or more and they include several skins or other items that have a real money price attached to them outside the bundle.
If it's the only method to obtain it, then it is a 40$ skin.
Yeah when the only consistent way to get something is to buy it in a bundle I think it's as reasonable as not to call it a $40 skin. If someone doesn't want the other stuff, but wanted the skin, it's effectively a $40 skin to that person.
The value of any item becomes pretty abstract when it's exclusively bundled, which is why it's done obviously
i disagree because you still get 2k coins which is enough for another skin so technically you are still getting the skin for $20, because if you're the kind of a person who will spend $40 on a bundle to get a single skin, i'm sure that's not going to be the last skin you'll ever buy & you will therefore get full value out of the 2k coins that you get, when you buy another skin with those coins.
That's a fair assessment of its value (to you). But when you say people will get value out of the coins, it's a totally subjective thing.
I personally don't really buy coins; I'd never buy them separately, so it doesn't affect the equation much for me. I know most people wouldn't buy tier skips separately either.
The trick is getting people to spend more than they would otherwise, because the value is confused by the exclusive/bundling. In that way the skin is worth more than a $20 skin to Blizzard. To customers the value is deliberately less clear, imo calling out this practice as a "$40 skin" should be the norm though.

i'm aware, but saying "having $40 skins to begin with" makes it sounds like the are actual skins that cost $40 for a single skin and that is a total misrepresentation or maybe a misunderstanding (of OP's title for example). was just pointing out that there are no skins that cost $40 in the game (only bundles).
You're not wrong, it just sucks when skins are tied to those kinds of bundles. I bought the heist dva skin in s12 (no regrets) but it sucked cause I didn't care for anything else in the bundle lol

I completely agree that the prices of these skins are outrageous, but what do you mean by non-transferable. Pretty much anything digital you buy is non-transferable, so that's a weird point to make.
csgo skins are tradeable and sellable for real money, that's the point they are making
TECNICALLY it was a 40 dollars for 2 skins + 2k coins and BP skips and access. you couldnt buy either of the 2 skins separate though and having the BP already unlocked with coins gives you no discount. still think its absurd and specially without regional prices. i wonder when theyre actually gonna update the boxes lootpools and include those of S15 and 16. at this rate might only happen by the new competitive year.

I'll never understand this obsession on this sub with disparaging the Ultimate Battle Pass bundle's value in the most unfavorable language and terms.
It's 20$ worth of shop coins plus it comes with your premium Battlepass which is its own crazy good value for an additional 10$ and then the two legendary skins cover the remaining 10$ value (so 5$ each) for the full 40$ package. I don't see how that's not great value in this game nor do I understand why people would want to spend 19$ worth of shop coins to get any one of the UBP's set of legendary skins on their own when you get more shop coins just getting the bundle plus your battlepass and both the skins.
People that paid 40$ for the Ultimate Battlepass didn't only receive this skin so it's disingenuous to act like it's was 40$ when it really was more like 5$ on its own.
the problem with it is that if you've already bought the BP it's still $40 (so no discount despite owning one of the main items), and if you don't need bp tier skips that's also zero value. i finish battle passes easily without tier skips and often the seasonal bundle that costs $10 for a skin + bp is nice as well, but if i buy that one i still have to pay $40 for the ultimate bundle.
the value is fine on surface level, but it's actually a pretty shitty bundle in the end for a lot of people.
If you finish your bp first and then buy the ultimate bundle tier skips will bank for next season so you can get a head start on all those cool skins and flex them as a first person in your lobbies haha jokes aside I was using this trick when mythic skins were still included in bp. I was banking all the twitch skips and bundle skips so I had my Moira mythic in 3 days
tier banking is so hit or miss though, I haven't gotten any of the tiers that were supposed to carry over for the past several seasons now. every time I reach out to customer support, they give me a canned response. my ex would have no issue, so it's super inconsistent from my experience.

the BP is 1000 coins, not $10. you can buy the ultimate bundle and BP bundle for $50 total, and you get no overlap. you get 3000 coins, three skins, and 20 BP tier skips, plus the battle pass.
Battle pass isn't incredible value. Think of it like 10 dollars for the chance, the other 30 dollars is your time. And if you don't finish it, you just donated to a charity called Blizzard.
I play like two hours a week and finish every battle pass. I can't see why anyone would buy it and not finish it.

I played for around 25 hours and already finished the battle pass so if you're accounting for additional challenges xp during the season, you definitely can finish the BP with 2 hours a week
And you don't have the xp boost from buying the premium? Genuinely think 25hrs is still bs, because you get like 3 to 5 games an hour, and they only give you around 1000XP a game, not minmaxing the weekly challenges.
Of course I get the premium with +20% xp, even the person playing 2 hours a week said they take it lol.
I'm a flex player so every challenge is completed without work and stadium xp is way better, I get around 15 000 xp for 20-25 minutes average games.
Maybe the other person needs 3 hours a week if they don't play stadium but it's def doable

A season is a little over 2 months. 9-10 weeks, 2 hours a week, 20 hours without winning a substantial amount (for weeklies), only playing quickplay, and not having the premium battlepass is not going to cut it, I strongly disbelieve that.
The point here is one should not buy the pass without having it nearly completed, because who knows what vagary of life prevents your 2 hours a week habit. Wasted money.
Why would I not have the premium battle pass that's what this whole conversation is about. And I don't play only quick play. You don't have to believe it I don't really care, it doesn't change the reality.
For the same amount of money I have bought Nightreign, which has entertained me for over 150 hours and will keep doing so. And yes, even that game has skins for its characters, 8 characters with 5 unique skins, so 40 skins you get besides a full ass game for the exact same price.
So no, the 40$ bundle is not worth 40$, it shouldn't cost more than a dollar at most.
You'll dine out for two or three people for more than 40 dollars and that'll feed you once. You'll buy tickets to events that'll cost way more than that and you'll be entertained for an evening at best.
Not to mention that some people would get 0 hours of enjoyment with Nightreign because they don't like the genre/gameplay of it versus them liking a skin for a character they play in the Ultimate Battlepass bundle.

I've gotten a few skins that I wanted but didn't pay for, but the most surprising things I've gotten was 2 of the 3 hard light skins 2 boxes (I can't remember which ones). I got Reaper one first and then Mercy's like a week or two later. Not expensive but I was surprised nonetheless.

In Brazil, the price of skins in Overwatch is absurdly expensive, and I don’t quite understand why. Just to give you an idea, the 4,000 coins + 500 bonus coins package costs around R$250 here. As a price comparison, The Witcher 3 a highly acclaimed game in Brazil costs R$125 (Right now it's costing 26 because of a Steam promotion) I understand that Overwatch isn’t very popular in Brazil, but this price is just absurd. I buy skins in Dead by Daylight for R$30, in Overwatch the only way I get skins is through loot boxes

I’m not sure what it is, I guess maybe loot boxes opening at the end of every season or something, but I’ve gotten so many random legendary skins that just pop up on my heroes one day. Rose majesty, rainy day, the new princess one, crimson knight. And it happens for other characters too, I just got nocturna for dva, I’ve never even seen that skin before lol

Props to u but this is why the value of skins has degraded so much. It used to be you had to spend a shit ton of money to acquire an account with the super limited skin on it which broke blizzard’s TOS, or you were actually around for the events the skins came from, which doesn’t have any meaning anymore since now it’s a gacha scam system fucking over everyone who got the skin originally. Either way not great for the general customer, like myself who spends $40 every season on the ultimate battlepass for the “exclusive” skins that are only supposed to come in the bundle. Same with all the previous event skins and items. They added sigmas maestro skin and mercy’s Dr Ziegler skin to the lootboxes when they haven’t been available for years beforehand. Might bring traction to new players who were aware of the skins but weren’t around for the events and missed out and were probably like “oh I can be a wannabe og” type of thing, but for the people who spent extra money not to even get something in response like as an apology… that annoys me. I like the idea that Fortnite had with the skull trooper skin, where they gave a different color effect for og players who got the skin when it debuted. Nothing feels special anymore with overwatch tho, and anything below metal ranks is low elo hell, and you don’t get out of it without team play. Kinda feels stale tbh, its not fun when there’s no cooperation and the devs make it obvious that they’ve become blinded by corporate greed. It’s not a video game company who cares about the player base anymore, it’s a money scheme and they’re sacrificing quality left and right for a bigger profit.

Something that should've happened seasons ago. How happy are you right now? And mega-Blizz is out $40, sure. But the investment in your happiness, which = you keep playing, you're satisfied with the game, promote it positively, and may spend a little here and there down the line.
Like, I don't get how the F2P with currency drought model was tolerated for so long. This is awesome! And should be what these games are about! Congrats on the amazing skin, and obtaining it through these means. Good job to Blizz for making it this, too!

This also explains why Mei receives some discrimination when promoting a collaboration. Last season he had a skin that was part of the Doki Doki pack, and at no time did they show her in the advertisement and only used the thinnest girls.
They also didn't use her in previous seasons' advertising even though she also received themed skins in the battle passes, but Juno and Kiriko did appear all the time.
I understand that in Asian countries there is a lot of discrimination against obese people, but Mei is not a large enough character to receive that treatment.

If you look at Doki skins, Blizzard gives the skins to slim body figure, pale skin color female characters only. They choose Widow over Symmetra when Symmetra literally shoots laser beam which is one of magical girls' attack move.
Blizzard knows the Internet is lowkey racist that dark skin color is not seen as a form of beauty in some countries, meanwhile gooners mostly attract towards slim body figure, pale skin color females. Some people rather choose 'less dark' females (e.g. Sombra, Illari, Ana, Pharah) over darker ones (e.g. Symmetra, Sojourn).
Outside Overwatch, black females are mostly portrayed negatively in media where they are loud, rude & overweight unless they serve in military that they're more disciplined and physically fit. When black females are too disciplined, people find them boring as emotionless robots. In turn, Caucasian girls are mostly portrayed as hot or elegant (or both); Asian girls are mostly portrayed as cute and some know martial arts; some end up falling in love with Caucasian male protagonists, etc.

Blizzard should have added some thigh muscles on Brig. They probably made Brig slim on purpose in order to fit well with the rest of the group, just like they make Widow's skin color normal instead of blue.
If Brig weren't chosen to get the skin due to not being slim, Blizzard would probably pass the skin to Ashe or Mercy because Ashe & Mercy are slim white women, but Ashe already had a BP skin (Demon Rocker); Mercy already had two shop skins (Gundam collab & Royal Princess) in Dokiwatch season.

I don't disagree that Blizzard does fucked up stuff and ignores certain heroes in favor for other ones and the motivations aren't good. Just to be clear. I completely understand where you're coming from. I just wanted to say, Sym technically did get a Doki skin, and I know because I use it. But to be fair also, it was a twitch-drop-only skin, and a recolor of the Ice Skater skin. But I love it. The weapon is pink and has a sparkly animation. She has beautiful two toned pink and blue hair. I really like it, even being a recolor. They did the same with Mei in Doki, they took her ice cream skin from OW1 and recolored it. I think it's understandable to be mad about recolors of OW1 in the shop costing money. But Syms was free. So I think saying she didn't get a skin when she did and it was free is a little misleading.

3 new heroes launched with Overwatch 2 several years ago. Two have already gotten their Mythic skins and 1 has been apart of a bunch of collabs. Sojourn was left behind.
Sojourn is just such a boring character lore wise though, the only interesting thing about her is that she has a dog lol.

Blizzard gives Doomfist & Baptiste funky skins, but not Sojourn.
Blizzard gives old characters like Sigma & Torbjorn beach skins, even Roadhog gets a Lifeguard. And Sojourn gets nothing.
Blizzard lets Illari wear a skirt (e.g. Sophomore) or dress cute (e.g. Cat girl), but not Sojourn.
Sojourn is a serious character, but Blizzard still gives serious characters like Hanzo & Reaper Valentine-themed skins.

Doomfist is shirtless by default, thus it's not hard to give him other shirtless skins.

Why do people want so badly for one of the only two gender non conforning women in the game to be feminine so badly? Why do you insint on a LIFELONG SOLDIER to perform femininity so badly? Like yeah I know that there's a baggage of Black women on the West historically not being allowed to be feminine because of racism but I feel like a better solution to this would be to add a second black lady hero who's a baddie rather than forcing Sojourn into skins that don't fit her.
