I Built a Skysctaper!
Hey everyone! Jist wanted to showcase my skyscraper base that I've been working on. Its 10 floors high (60 tiles). I'll leave a link to the full video tour in the comments below.

Meanwhile me just dropping all my stuff in the starter zone but the pool of water. All I made a 4x4 log cabin I literally never slept in, it has a bed, the thing to mess with my character settings, and mini fridge and the order podium on the flat roof….
The simple life. I like it.
Actually…. ITS FUCKING CHAOTIC. Lol pals clipping through pals and everything else. Dudes be mining from 50 feet away in a pool on the side of the cabin.

Well, if there’s one thing I could say about it being chaotic, at least it’s entertaining.
Well it doesn’t look so bad from up where I was…. But walking around I’m entering and exiting my pals lol

You could make a "boat house". There is plenty of space in the water to build a large platform based on this image. It'd allow you to move the beds onto it snd free up space.
Heck you could make it like a board walk along the side and even move the production assembly stuff onto it(basically same location, just looks nicer and adds a bit of space.
If that's the pool of water as you go down the hill from where you wake up, my main base is still there. It's stone and glass now, but probably doesn't look any better than the original log cabin! And I'm level 62...
It's a surprisingly pretty location with a good view.

meanwhile best I got is a basic log fort, I am level 65
I’ll do you one better, half-built log fort with no roof at level 65. Once I have every necessity built, I just give up on finishing the building and decorating. It’s like that on all 4 of my bases lol
I actually did that all the way up to like lvl 40 or something, but then i realised i might as well engage with this huge part of the game called base building and actually try to get some cool buildings going on. Then you realise you've not been chilling and "taking in the environment" because you were so busy fighting and fighting. It has an impact on a man. I feel like John Rambo retiring somewhere in the woods/mountains and giving my opponents a break LOL.
I got three bases next to each other out in the open. I mean I made a wall surrounding all of them. My main base is next to the other two. I just put wood floor down to prevent trees from respawning. My main house I followed some video. The house is small and part of the roof is missing. There is semi organized chaos within the other two bases. Because I suck at building etc. And I'm at level 60.
Do you get performance issues because of the close proximity of your bases?
Maybe a touch? I only have one building.
Some people can't be bothered to build a wooden cube with a pal bed. Buy some of those same people will grind for dozens of hours to get, "the perfect pal"... just shows what a great game it is. Can appeal to so many different types of people lol!

You can build them on a bench then delete the bench and they float

This is so sick! Is that that big project you had mentioned a bit ago? You did an incredible job; this build is so sleek and modern, but you have areas like the library which still make it feel warm. And I love all of the wall mounted TVs you have here lol, that’s still one of my favorite building tricks that I’ve started incorporating into all of my builds because of you. I’m excited to check out the full video later when I get home!

Can the pals go to the higher floors?
Yep. I heard from someone else there was height limits but this one doesn't seem to hit them. It does start at ocean level though so if you're building this many stories high but starting on a mountain there may be issues.
Should be about 15 tiles above and below the Pal Box.
Ohhh. That's curious then. My pals are going well above 15 tiles over the palbox.
It’s weird because you can definitely find the spot where the base radius has a flat line but above it will still be considered in the base. Can use the new quick Bulk Storage UI thingy all the way up to the world ceiling. So idk what the flat line is supposed to indicate if Pals will successfully path above or below it…
You ever get any Pals from the bottom floor go all the way up to the top to eat because that food box was closer horizontally to the Pal on the bottom floor? Something to maybe watch out for…
So beautiful, I'm growing my Babel tower, it has reached it's 3rd floor. I feel like the Devs intentionally want us to build towers - to rival those of the bosses!
Question: is your base diameter bigger than normal? It looks huge!

And nah, normal base diameter - for the tower itself, at least. The central tower utilises the full circle nearly perfectly and there's a couple of tiles on each corner that are outside of the perimeter, but i have degradation set to 0 so there's no decay over time.
Its all build up from a base of 14×14 tiles which should fit.
The dock and promenade area are a separate base and outside of the base circle though.

Does this game not freak out over base complexity? I could have sworn it did. Excellent work regardless.
The pal pathing has been waaay better since they released a patch for it shortly after Feybreak. And as far as FPS issues, I was having huge frame rate loss in the base pre tides of terraria (and it was not even furnished, at that point) but the update has completely fixed that for me. I dunno what they did but it works great now.
But it's a bloody luxury hotel you've built, it's magnificent!
I can only imagine the lag if a poor console player steps foot into that world

This must've taken days to build
About 30 hours total over 3 weeks. A lot of that is design time though, so trying stuff, deleting, tweaking etc. If I were to demolish it and start again it could probably come together in under 10 hours I reckon
Niiiice, im currently building a Breeding/ Research base for my Pals in the Astral Mountain region of the game. Figured it kinda fit the them since them crazy genetic researchers are in that area

Damn, I spent that long on my base and it looks like a freshly bombed refugee camp with a disproportionately high number of anthropomorphic penguins picking up garbage in comparison. You should be proud of your hard work!

This is so cool, one of my favourite things to do in games is learn all the unique techniques for building, sadly my friends won’t increase the base area size so I can’t build my temples.
How is your base so big? Or am I tripping? Is it still the normal palbox size?
It is still the normal palbox size but some areas of the build are outside of the base perimeter. You can build outside of the perimeter, pals just dont work outside of the perimeter so all of your production nodes have to be within.
In this build, the main tower is built from a 14x14 tile foundation, which fits within the normal base size. The dock area is outside of base and partly a separate, second base.
Does the structure outside base degrade over time? I kinda wanna do this as well but im afraid it'll just be destroyed before i even finish. This is really awesome
It does decay by default, but there's a setting to control it and you can turn the decay off if you want.

wow that's awesome, how bad is rhe lag tho? I had a 3 story castle with 8 story tall towers and everyone's games would lag to hell and back when they went near it so I had to greatly reduce it down.
