When you die, your loot is dropped in a bag on the floor which has a pillar of light going up into the sky. You do not need to get to the actual bag, you can interact with the light pillar even from 100 meters above on a flying mount.

When you die and drop your stuff, there's a blue beam of light coming from it. I think the pillar is the beam of light

also works with treasure maps too, you can fly to the beam and "dig" in the air, saves time for when you've opened a few and doing drive by's

I remember watching people utilize this to vet items lost on the oil rigs. I can't remember if you fly high enough if you avoid the anti-air but I do remember folks doing it with glider Pals.
I don’t think you can fly high enough to avoid anything but the lasers don’t shoot at gliders. Sadly you can’t glide on pals anymore but same thing remains.
What do you mean? You can still use pals as gliders, you just need to also have a glider equipped

glider pals used to replace the glider model. they no longer do this unless you have a mod
