Based on the subtle porny vibe I think the implication is that Shinji is rejecting the job application form because Misato is going to be supporting him as a sugar mommy. Probably the intended context is for sub-leaning men to fantasize about being fin-dommed by a powerful woman.

He is just a teenager without parental care. But the woman who is with him is obligated to take care of him. She is an adult woman who works in a government job to protect the world. At the end of the anime, she kissed him, which means that she loved him.Then she dies
In this picture I think they will get married and she will pay the expenses and he will stay at home because she most likely has a good salary.
I know you are simplifying, but her kiss was a desperate attempt to get him to fight, she never had a thing for him.
