Economics Peter here.
Diminishing marginal utility basically mentions how with every successive exposure to something, our utility to it reduces.
Example: You love mangoes. you're probably gonna enjoy 1 nice mango right now. You might enjoy a 2nd or 3rd one, but you won't enjoy the 2nd and 3rd ones as much as the first one. Voila, diminishing marginal utility.
HOWEVER, when we develop crushes, this doesn't seem to happen. Every time we see them around we're filled with just as many butterflies every single time. It doesn't reduce.
Unless you blow your shot with them. but that's not my field to discuss.

I totally blew my shot with my crush. For a while I just felt empty when I saw her, like I didn’t know if I loved her or hated her (she’d been rude to me for a while after the incident)

Diminishing marginal utility is just the observation of "people use units of goods for the things they want more before they use them for the things they want less"
Econ peter is using a common (but wrong) analogy
The fact that you are seeing your crush many times and not feeling less good to see them is just an indication that the amount of "seeing your crush" you would need to fulfill your desire to "see your crush a lot" is higher than the amount of "seeing your crush" that actually occurs
and/or
It's a units problem. You think the units of the good in question are "instances of seeing your crush" while in reality, the unit of the good in question is something else.
It's also because OOP hasn't gotten their crush yet... and then gotten 100,000 more of them.
