There's a stereotype that butterfly tattoos are a red flag because the people who get them often get them because they represent transformation (e.g from a traumatic experience, mental illness, eating disorder, etc.)
Obviously not everyone with a butterfly tattoo falls into that category but it's something people have noticed. Some people just like butterflies and some people who fall into that category are really nice people who you should get to know first.
That makes sense, I had never thought about the whole metamorphosis thing. I had always considered the butterfly tat as being super basic, especially if it's on an ankle or upper arm that could be easily concealed.
Though I wouldn't rule out super basic being the reason for the joke either.
That was my takeaway. Someone who literally gets a tattoo of something on the wall.
hello, yes I'd like one tattoo please
Dolphins are for the basics.
The best things always are, things wouldn't be basic if most people didn't love them
SUPER basic would be the dolphin tat on the ankle. My brother has one. It keeps me up at night.
My ex boyfriend has a tramp stamp.
Ted Mosby?
It's not a butterfly, it's a tribal design. As far as I know he was sober when he got it, which is kind of worse.
A man getting a tribal tattoo on his lower-back and it being a sober decision is wildđ
That had to be the mid to late 90s then
I was going to comment: "1995 called and wants its tattoo back."
Classic Shmosby.
You beat me to it, take my upvote!
My ex had/has? a tramp stamp. Its Chinese letters from a restaurant menu. That should have been the only red flag i needed.
Does a drunken trip to the tat parlor, resulting in two mudflap chick's on my lower back constitute a tramp stamp? If so I do too, also know a guy who has "tramp stamp" in stamp type on his lower back.
Same with my ex husband. Itâs a misinterpretation of a Viking symbol đ¤Śââď¸
Alex Ovechkin?
Tin roof, rusted!
Which sorority was your brother in?
Sigma Gay Copper
Gamma Alpha Yupsilon
omg, yes, that is the most basic of the basic tats!
But it being on a man kind of negates the basic right?
Like a woman with a barb wire wrapped around their arm. Not common but they are out there. (Echos in whispers) They are out there....
I don't know, depends on context.
i love my super cheugy dolphin tattoo on my ankle lol
Stop, as a little kid, I always wanted one đđđ then I realized how over done they are
Why a dolphin though? Whatâs the appeal of the evil marine tube?
Well I love the ocean and dolphins? They're cute, playful, highly intelligent, and sometimes save humans from drowning. They sound really cool? They swim in pods. Idk, I just really like dolphins. And unlike sharks, I'm pretty sure they're actually smooth.
That, and a tribal tattoo within the last 25 years.
Butterfly winged dolphin, is that even more basic or does the double basic become complex?
My prosthetic leg has butterflies on it. I hope people get the transformation aspect.
The bigger red flag is those with a Caterpillar tattoo. They haven't gone through metamorphosis yet.
Abort mission, abort abort abort
The landing strip is like a fuzzy caterpillar crawling in, and the butterfly lower back tramp stamp is on the way out. Symbolism.
I can guarantee you this isnât the answer and itâs just a dude who thinks tattoos on women (or in general) is a red flag. You canât go into any conservative space (or really any discussion on tattoos) without bumping your toe on this opinion
I had never thought about the whole metamorphosis thing
That's because they prefer a cockroach tattoo instead
Hey everyone, this guy reads BOOKS! NERD! j/k
And how do you know that, huh? Looks like you're a CLOSET NERD!!!
N-N-NO! SHUT UP!
And it looks like you're a movie enjoyer too...or should i say "film"?
In any case, how scandalous~
Buff stewie here. The metamorphosis thing is great but it's not a thing in the meme culture. Maybe it is in real life or whatever, but really it's just a part of the "crazy girl" stereotype. Believing in astrology and conspiracy theories, being very controling and jealous and having a butterfly tattoo. It's stupid but it doesnt go further. I enjoied your inspiration for this comment but truly nobody thinks of eating disorder when they see a meme about butterfly tattoo girls.
Why is experiencing trauma, mental illness, etc and transforming considered bad? We literally live in a mental society. People surviving is a good thing, isn't it?
Generally Our society loves to show symbolic support for people struggling with mental illness up until the point it costs them something or when that mental illness manifests in anyway.
When it comes to dating, some people see people overcoming, surviving, or living with mental illness as an amazingly beautiful display of strength, courage, and tenacity. Others see it an annoyance or issue they donât want to deal with.
It's a huuuge ask, coming from someone who dated someone who was later diagnosed with bpd and currently with someone with mild depression. The former being far worse. Not just an 'annoyance,' but an entire lifestyle change at best.
Totally fair and correct. Iâve also dated people with varying levels of mental health baggage and itâs definitely something that can require a lot of patience and compassion that not everyone is equipped to deal with. But this tweet isnât a nuanced take on the difficulties and responsibility of dating someone with mental illness. Itâs someone saying âayyo that tattoo is a red flag. She hella crazy.â It gives âmy crazy ex broke up with me for playing PlayStation instead of doing the dishesâ way more than âitâs extremely difficult and emotionally taxing to date someone who has days they canât get out of bed.â
Because it can come with behavior or baggage that is undesirable based on individuals own circumstances.
It can be bad or it can be not, just depends on the individual.
People don't remember the person who experienced trauma who is well adjusted, they remember the person who called them 87 times after coming home from work late.
It's one thing to support somebody you already love through a difficult time. You love them, you are willing to sacrifice of yourself for them. It's a cost, but one people are willing to pay.
If somebody who you don't already love appears to be likely to be emotionally costly, why get involved?
It's not bad to have experienced Trauma. I feel people who address their Trauma are frequently among the most well rounded, altruistic and grounded people I know. With dating and first impressions it's a red flag though.
If your daughter brought home a former cop with PTSD, you'd worry about domestic violence.Â
If your son brought home a former stripper and heroin addict you'd be worried, no longer how long she'd been sober for.Â
These worries fade in time as trust builds. As a first impression? Nothing wrong with being wary. Transformation is a difficult road. It's ok to support people's recovery while not wanting to tie your life intimately to it.
Everyone has trauma. But "Trauma" has become some people's personalities, it's never a positive thing.Â
Why, is being a fisting top a bad thing?
You can't ask things like that in a reddit comment, you're going to end up with and influx of horrifying inbox messages.
you're going to end up with and influx of horrifying inbox messages.
Or tantalizing.... Giggity.
HAH. My partner has double armband tattoos and those jokes never get old to me
Your username makes it inconclusive... Is it true for your partner on how far it goes in? HmmMMmmMM?
ah fuck, what a time to forget my own username......
This doesnt even make sense as different partners could take different amounts/it changes over time with practice and experience.
Im all for kink and tattoos , but trying to mark off a changing milestone with a tattoo seems like such a stupid idea.
its more about recognizing each other.
you dont want to have every date hinge on the " oh btw. what are your oppinions on fisting?" question. that you really dont want to start the conversation with.
thats what made it really problematic when collar style chokers became popular with girls age 14-21
I mean, personally its waaay easier to start a conversation with someone im interested in, and then later segue to kink, then like. Walk around advertising it 24/7 . Especially because you cant guarantee that only people with the interest will recognize it- and that everyone who shares that interest would.
Kinda same thing about chokers. They look good, but i think its a bit fucked to assume someone wearing a collar is advertising their prefences and availability. Bdsm requires building trust and communication- and their are places and platforms to specifically meet kinky individuals. It shouldn't rely on semi-secret signs.
Ok imagine if ppl existed before the internet⌠this is how we found each other in the before timesâŚ
So, either it indicates your fisting high score or a loved one died. Or maybe a loved one died from a traumatic fisting accident.
My ex had a butterfly tattoo on her chest for a very different reason.
She had big boobs and when giving boob jobs, it looked like the butterfly was trying to fly away. Good memories.
It's the female version of a guy rocking up with a Freedom Ain't Free shirt.
Lotsa upstanding people with that out there but it's something that can give pause.
Or a recent transition âŚ
My wife has a butterfly tattoo because her niece who later died was born with a condition called butterfly vertebra. And that tattoo was to honor her. So a butterfly tattoo can definitely mean other things.
We need to de stigmatize mental illness :(
It almost like we all suffer at one point in time!
She could also be an entomologist, which in my case is a turn on
Never heard of this stereotype, people jump to some crazy ass conclusions on the most inane shit.
I always thought butterfly tattoos meant tramp stamp .
My sample size might be ideosyncratic, but the people I know who've Been Through It and actually processed those experiences are, on the whole, kinder and better people than average.
Butterfly/pheonixes are red flags, as are chest tattoos.
so overcoming hardship is a red flag for people now?
As a fellow male, I also would never have checked out my dates cleavage either. So this is totally a real post.
I was wondering how someone could be so terribly unobservant đ¤Łđ¤Ł
As an average cleavage checker I would never be on a date.
Only real bros do this. Can't be checking out the Mercedes before she is comfortable enough with you to ride. Gots to ease into the saddle or they get spooked and buck you off.
I am not entirely certain where I was going with the horse metaphor but hopefully someone gets a thrill from it.
Mom says it was my turn to post this
Also watch out for a dragonfly tattoos
What do those signify?
she likes bugs
No lie, dragonflies are my favorite insects, so that's why I was asking.
Could be an entomology enthusiast, too. Odonates are neat little predators!
They're Coheed fans.
Source: Coheed fan with a dragonfly tattoo.
Iâm a big Coheed fan, but donât get me started on Cambria. /s
Good luck.
Idk what bro is on about
I guess I'm doomed, my wife has a dragonfly and 5 butterfly tattoos.
Donât worry, I have plenty of praying mantis tattoos and I have yet to eat a manâs brain during sex. I donât even have sex, period, so⌠sometimes people get bug tattoos because they like the bugs, not because of some complex symbolic story.
I have a cicada tattoo. It's because I like to sleep for a long time, emerge from a crunchy shell, and then scream.
The correct answer
I'm certain parts of this have been discussed elsewhere, but I was just re-playing Peace Walker and became re-fascinated with not only butterflies in MGS, but the Morpho butterfly in particular. In a recording of a conversation between BB and Paz, Paz explains that the Morpho butterfly maintains its blue color by the light reflecting off its wings, to which BB immediately has a "nudge nudge" moment about its applications in optical camouflage. They then go on to discuss why a Morpho would be painted on Peace Walker, which, as we know, is the shell containing the AI that is the Boss's true will. Please stop reading this, it's a joke. The callsign of the pilot during Ground Zeroes is Morpho-1, and I wouldn't pin a coincidence on Kojima as that helicopter becomes a cocoon of its own (one could also draw a comparison between the "twin snakes" of BB.) Knowing what we do about the fractured persona of BB into one being behind the original Intrude Mission N313 and the true Big Boss having a much different plan of his own for Outer Heaven, I've just been tossing around ideas about how the Morpho, butterflies, etc. tie back to the Boss's will, perhaps made even more stark by its original appearance when BB is molding the C3 in Snake Eater after the Boss (her "will" to continue her self-sacrificing mission) takes out his eye and successfully catches it, as if foreshadowing his lingering doubt and naivete about the responsibility still at hand in eliminating the Boss. Holy shit, are you still reading this? So, yeah, I'm just over here thinking about fucking butterflies, more or less. Are there other threads throughout the games where this symbol appears and could be linked? What do others make of Kojima's obsession with the Morpho, other than the whole what-you-see-might-not-be-what-you-see sort of thing?
EDIT: Also, the butterflyish connection between The End and Quiet. All of these occurrences seem to be based on ideas of optics.
I read this for some reason...
Can you resume for the rest? Please
Remind me when adderal is affordable again
No, I don't think I will.
I'm 100% certain that this is the explanation.
I mean peace walker was a amazing entry in the mgs series. One of THE most slept on and the only one to actually make me cry with snake and the boss. Like that shit hurt my heart toward the endâŚÂ
She got a caterpillar tattoo without considering how it might look later on. This lack of forethought is a huge red flag!!
Finally, the real explanation
Damn, and I just want a butterfly tattoo because I think butterflies are cool.
Get one. Whatâs stopping you? Internet incels that youâll never meet?
Oh dw I will. I'm just making light of the fact that so many people read so hard into people's tattoos.
Planning to have it on my left to match the moth on my right.
My bipolar ex had one, crazy af, great head though
Mine too, she was pretty sweet at the beggining but suddely became aggressive, possessive, and them cheated on me 3 times (sex with 3 different guys in the same party) in the same night because according to her: She ended a serious relationship couple of days before met me and then already was in another serious relationship, so she didn't enjoyed her "single times" and tought "she deserves it".
I could never have sex with her again because I was disgusted and fearing to get an STD, because she fucked the 3 guys raw, in the same night.
I ended up sooner I could. She was crazy but MAN, greatest sex I ever had.
This is a very relatable story, I feel you man.
I find it hard to believe that someone who thinks this way about women got all the way to the food arriving before glancing at this woman's chest.
Ok, in the last few weeks this popped up already 4 times... What is the record here? Anyone knows?
What kind of fucking weirdo photographs their 1st date and posts it for internet points
Misogyny
Lesbians aren't interested in fools either
I don't understand your comment
Do you have a certain tattoo
Drug problem or major trauma.
In my country women with butterfly tattoos are stereotyped as whores(correct 8 out of 10 times). Prolly something similar
She should leave because if it took them that long to notice something right in front of thier face then they're probably an idiot
Eating disorder maybe?
Yeah the blue butterfly was a pro Ana symbol on tumblr in In early 2010s
Yeah thats why i thought about it lol

Can confirm. Mental illness. (Speaking from experience).
I never noticed the steak is in wiener position before
I feel called out by this one.
The 2 people Iâve met with butterfly tats had crazy red flags and were for the streets
SCHMETTERLING
Some of us just watched Steve McQueen in Pappillon too many times.
Sheâs the one bro
Iâve seen The Silence of the Lambs.
My grandma got one at 63 on her left breast after flying to the west coast with her bestie and a few rounds at a bar. Her friend went to the bathroom and found her next door at the tattoo parlor, so she got a matching one in her leg. My granddad didnât talk to her except through me for a week after she got home. I guess getting old is a transformation but my grandma just likes butterflies đŚ
On tumblr in early 2010s the blue butterfly was a pro Ana symbol
Might just be a stupid tattoo they got at 18?
*eats food*
This action will have consequences.
I've heard that butterfly symbology is used by pro anorexia people which might be the joke saying it was a waste to buy her food. Other than that it's probably just some dude being a loser
this picture is AI. Extra fingers, the glasses are asymmetrical, the background is very weird, the food doesn't look right. This guy couldn't actually get a date so he had chatgpt make one for him đ
