Tormenting is no where near dead. Can find pretty much any show or movie and get it within an hour or 2 worst case. Need to use better trackers.
"tormenting"
I also love tormenting people
I love tormenting the bastards who think I'm gonna pay $18 each for netflix, disney, hbo, binge, amazon (wouldn't buy it for 15c though), britbox, and more.
Just raised my seed ratio limit to 15 lol
Limit? I have a torrent with over 40 ratio and plenty above 20. Lots of the time on private trackers there are some things that just won't get downloaded so I have to seed on other torrents that do get downloaded. That being said, I don't leave my machine on 24/7 so it's not like I am burning bandwidth on upload all of the time.
Got nearly 1.8TB of stuff on a 2TB computer. Need to cycle some stuff out so I can still use it for other things. Not lugging around 5 hard drives lol.
Already keeping two copies of some things because I like my library to be in AV1 format, but if something doesn't have many seeders, I up the limit usually.
If it's a particularly good copy (full closed captions, chapter markers, second audio stream with commentary) of something I like, I remove the limit or force resume once the limit's reached.
As for bandwidth, it's not an issue anymore. I added a hotkey that runs a script that sets QB to a reduced speed. To be honest, I don't really need the bandwidth.
Amazing. I love auto correct sometimes.
Yes, its very much an alive art
Tormenting is at all time high. Also torrenting is not in bad shape
Can confirm I am Very Tormented these days
Yeah I saw
As long as developing countries exist, so will torrenting.
thank you USA for keeping torrenting alive 🙏🏻
Yep. Storage space is now cheap. I have a 4 terabyte Crucial X9 USB SSD showing up today that costs $184.99. The 8 terabyte ones now exist but the price hasn’t dropped yet. A 20 terabyte USB HDD is $229. I have two 4 terabyte USB SSDs attached to my Sony OLED panel. I keep everything backed up on a big HDD using robocopy. I use Kodi on my panel.
Yeah, i'm about to buy a seagate 24 TB HDD
last year i bought a refurbished 12 TB Seagate refurbished HHD for 180$, and, I only use it for storaging shit. and works fine, despite the slow wait start (like, when i open the folder i need to wait like 20 seconds to unfreeze) everything works fine. I've even have a pletora of games there, like Street fighter 6 and some competitive ones, and works fine.
I don't think i'll find a deal like that again
which trackers
any medium quality private tracker will be better than any Public tracker that is out there.
Noob question but how do I find a private tracker?
maybe ask chatgpt
Yeah, streaming sites can be considered more dead than torrenting as you can find dead media that's nowhere on the streaming
Yeah I was gonna say this feels like a public tracker problem. That said, private trackers are becoming increasingly onerous to get in on.
not really just takes a bit of effort and reading..
How can I contribute and seed?
I use stremio, torrentio and real debrid.
I've got no clue how this stuff works, I just watched a YouTube tutorial about a year ago.
When I watch movies, i think I can see the number of people seeding? It looks like:
👤6
I googled how I can be one of those people, I don't mind leaving my PC on and my internet is fast, but I didn't find a tutorial on how to seed so I gave up.
If anyone knows how to contribute, lemme know.
Use a real torrent client on your computer like qBittorrent.
*AND* make sure that your internet connection is not CGANTed like me :(
CGANT? I dont torrent so im not sure what this means (i only use DD servers)
Your Internet Service Provider gives you a modem and an IP address so that people know how to connect to you. Your home router (Eero for example) uses Network Address Translation so that hundreds of devices on your network can be used and all be connectable from that that one IP.
CGNAT basically means your ISP has installed a NAT router upstream of your modem. It's like they put an Eero in front of your Eero but you don't have any control over it. You don't get a public static IP and this makes it harder for people to find you.
Huh, interesting. How would I check to see if im CGNAT or not?
For windows use tracert
and for linux use traceroute
. Just do this
tracert[or traceroute] google.com
If you are unfortunate enough, you will see private IPs in the first 2 hops like me
1 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.50.1
2 6 ms 4 ms 4 ms 10.20.94.1
If you are not, then you should not see any private/reserved IP in the hop number 2
Thats the easiest way to find if you have CGNAT or not. Basically your connection is put inside a private subnet once and we call it NATTing
.
Its still possible to seed while being NATTed
.
All you have to do is open a port. Majority of the world does it that way if you are planning to seed from your computer.
However if you have one additional private subnet which means - private subnet inside a private subnet , then there is no way for you to open your ports. In that case, you have 2 options. Either use VPN which allows port forwarding, or rent a server.
Theres 10 hops for me what does that mean :(
Are they all private IPs ? Are the top 2 private IPs or they are public IPs ?
Idk 1st one is 194.xx,
the 2nd,3rd,4th.and 5th are all 10.xx,
the 6th is 43.xx
7th is 173.xx
8th is again 192.xx and the 9th is 142.xx and the last one is the google IP
I believe your connection might as well be CGNATed
the number of hops doesn't matter - you just have to make sure that the second hop isn't an IP number like 10.20.94.1
. it needs to be a DNS address (something that ends in .net
or .com
or etc.)
it's also okay if the second hop is an IP number that doesn't start with 172
, 192.168
, or 10
(I'm oversimplifying a little bit here)
Oof my top 3 are private network, oh well. I had no plans to torrent anytime soon anyways
Please ignore what everyone else said, CGNAT is not nearly as big of a problem for torrenting nowadays. It used to be a big problem in the mid-2000's, but there are ways around it and some very clever people manage to include such techniques in μTP, which is the transport protocol used by default in modern torrent clients.
CGNAT. And if so, just use a tunneled VPN
You mean a VPN which allows port forwarding ?
Yup. I personally use torguard, but don't get their dedicated cloud VPN, just get anonymous pro on black friday or something.
Thank you. Will look into it
Nothing you can do about it if it is. My ISP is CGNAT so no self hosting from my house without tailscale. My torrents seem to seed fine though. Although I mostly use Usenet and only torrent if needed.
Torrent works fine even under CGNAT nowadays, μTP allows for hole punching by using non-CGNAT peers as intermediaries to establish a connection to peers under CGNAT.
Works on a mac?
Yes
Use Transmission if on mac
Get a cheap seedbox, once you upload it will do all the work for you, you don't even need to have your PC on and it will be seeding 24/7!
Try not to seed new popular movies, those already have more than enough people uploading, try and focus on the rare stuff with not many seeders.
It's a bonus if you're seeding something you like that isn't very easy to get. Just leave it running and anyone else who needs it will be able to find it.
I have a pi with 128gb, not huge but it's something. It's just running pihole right now do might as well
As an old-school user I don't understand all these words. Why can't you just download a file by torrent and watch with VLC?
Seriously, use a private torrenting site or usenet, get file, watch on vlc or stream to another device any number of ways.
I set up and tried real debrid and stremio after already having a massive Plex media server and massive seed ratio, and I really just don't get the appeal. You are paying money to a somewhat opaque, quasi-legal organization and still don't own any of the media you are consuming while degrading the quality of the torrent seed network?
Just set up a media server for free and make it a hobby.
Thank you! Could not have put it better myself. Haven't built a dedicated media server yet since my PC suits my use case just fine. A ton of additional storage and built it for higher end gaming so it can handle streaming just fine. Seems like a fun project though, wish I could justify the cost.
I like the simple user interface.
I want something like Netflix but without supporting Netflix.
Stremio has a nice user interface, you don't need to download this or find that and all the other headaches. Everything is in one place, I think it's as convenient as Netflix, Amazon etc. I've also changed a setting in stremio so the movies open in VLC instead of the built-in video player.
only if this reddit sub seeds like what they always say on this sub.
only if reddit debrid users download the file on debrid server and seed it like what they always say on this sub.
only if.
I seed all my shit to a 10 ratio, unless I deem it culturally important in which case I just let it ride.
The thing is, some people just wanna download stuff and that's never gonna change. We just need enough people to seed stuff they wanna make available.
There is also torrenting efficiency of content. For example 40gb of series if someones downloads at like 4k max quality they will watch once then it is useless. Meanwhile 40gb of a fallout 4 game gives hundreds of hours of entertainment. So games are far better at giving entertainment for the torrent data they use. Thats why i exclusively seed 12tb of only games.
seeding for life, I will die before I delete a torrent
If I enjoyed it others deserve to as well and so I shall seed for them
That's why I use usenet
Usenet + torrents seems to cover all the bases for me. Radar and Sonarr still do all of my heavy lifting for me.
Same. NZBGeek + Eweka for me, then private torrenting trackers as a backup.
Got a beginner's guide to start with?
Tbf, most usenet content comes from the torrent networks - so it's still essential
wait isn't it the same thing as debrid i thought it was
Not exactly. From my understanding Usenet is how the Internet was before modern browsing and when using it your ISP will just see Usenet traffic and not any specific website. So you don't have to pay for a VPN or something like that but you do need to pay to use Usenet from a provider and most of the time you need to pay for an indexer to find what you need.
oh i see thanks
Yeah no problem!
Even As a debrid user, i still maintain a 5tb seedpool so…
I'm an honest pirate and go for 1:1 ratio whatever tracker I use inkl public ones.
I've been around a long time, back in the day it was standard to seed and pay back to the community.
I don't know. A movie comes out I can always get 1080p, 2160, 4k, atmos sound, imax and whatever the f else with a sht ton of seeds. Games and applications the same. Unless it's some old obscure sht, I never had a problem finding torrents with seeds.
New movies will always be like this, its more of an issue with older movies/tv shows, even just a couple of years old
I’ve watched some obscure-ish stuff. Full seasons all the way through. Never a problem.
When you tell a beginner they NEED a server and have to seed everything 24/7 365 no wonder they prefer other methods
Bullshit, my private tracker works fine. Torrenting is king
Still stuck in public hell here, gobbless
private trackers are great , the only downsize is trying to keep a higher ratio when you grab older things that ppl are in less demand for , one of the things i have going for almost a month now thats only a couple months old is only at 0.18 for my ratio for an~8gb set of videos. granted the show is a bit niche but even things that aren't tend to have this issue at times if it isn't something just airing or a new release
Gotta use a private tracker where they don't allow hit and runs. I'll never torrent from public sites again.
You'd be surprised at how many have no idea PT's even exist
You'd be surprised how many hoops require jumping through before a private tracker lets you in this day and age.
you can get into like 6 PT's by renting a seedbox for a month for like $10
or go to r/opensignups, every other day some PT has signups enabled.
seedpool has them open like 90% of the time
I got into all my private usenets via reddit invites. Just took some time monitoring the subreddit. Made the switch 2-3 years ago. I don't even remember how I got into my private tracker. 10+ years ago now.
Problem is people don't want to adapt
I mean we're stremio users ever gonna seed anyway? Probably not
People keep bringing up that debris users don't so this, and yes, it's correct, but these are for sure in the minority, pirates don't like to pay.
Wdym? Do debrid services seed?
No, but it only takes 1 leech to cache it to debrids drives and then everyone acces that one. In the grand schemes of things, one hit and run leecher is nothing.
I don't understand anything in this comment section, can someone explain in simple terms? 😅
If you are downloading a torrent, you depend of seeds, people that already downloaded the file and are sharing it with you. When you finish the download, you can leave the torret program open to share your file with other people that still downloading it.
The problem with stremio is that it does not share the file with others, it just leaches from it.
So, everyone is downloading but nobody is sharing. The result? Slow downloads or dead torrents (nobody has the file to share anymore).
I see, than you
As a casual Stremio user, is there any way to help?
Don't use stremio but just torrent and seed within torrent client.
Is there any way for someone who doesn't have storage space to do this? I've heard of seedboxes, but I'm not really sure how they work or where to start with one.
This might help: old.reddit.com/r/seedboxes/ and https://seedboxgui.de/seedbox/
I get what you're saying, but the entire point of Stremio is not having to deal with torrents or torrent client and making it easy to use.
I really wish we came up with a better option than Stremio that allowed to share back content, or maybe even integrate a seed box into it that works out of the box for paying users which in exchange get a better experience
Bruh I exclusively download full 2k and 4K BD Rips. I've never had an issue, because it seems like the people who download those are media hoarders. I also use specific websites that tailor to what I need.
My arr suite prefers usenet downloads but I keep all my torrents seeding for what I do have.
This is why I like IPT, you have to be invited. And you have to share what you downloaded. If you don’t. You are kicked. It’s like a bunch of old heads got Together and said. Listen. Fuck this. You have to share or GTFO. I get everything fast and I have to share for a minimum of two weeks.
Yea I would like that to if I was part of it or any other private trackers. I just recently returned to torrenting after stopping for over a decade and was sad to find out my old demonoid login was useless lol.
Torrents aren't even dead. I never have any issues.
Why I love private torrent sites, all the downloads are very fast!
What? There is nearly no content I can't download via the usual torrenting services. Movies? YTS because I don't really care about quality. Anime? Nyaa and bakabt sourced via seadex list. Tv shows? Various sites, mostly rarbg. I am also member of iptorrents and torrentleech.
So yeah... No idea what that person is talking about, lol. Except for the rare anime that released in 2005 by one specific fansub group, I have seeds en masse.
Or you just join a Private Tracker and forget about all these issues :/
I use a private tracker, torrentleech, and I dont need any other! Theres everything. And you seed like the good boy you are :3
Why stream when you can fucking own it... the amount you spend on your subscriptions is enough for a large HDD.
I don't use Stremio, every single time I've tried to I get buffering. I can't stand ads or buffering.
Long live open source bit-torrent clients :)
There are no ads tho, and by default the actual buffer (how much to download before it starts playing) is really small, so if you try to watch something in high resolution (i.e. 1080p) that buffer might be just 1-2 seconds and that's why you get constant buffering. You just need to change to performance profile.
I never said Stremio has ads but paid streaming services do, as well as YouTube. I'll stick to magnet links. :P Less hassle to me and more helpful to other magnet users.
Haven't seen ads on YouTube ever since installing ublock origin. I don't pay for services, but I guess it works for them as well.
Yeah same
I just download and seed
There's a lot of old stuff that isn't seeded very well unfortunately
stremio without debrid users are the problem.
It's so annoying to find shit now, rargb is dead. Torrent Galaxy is dead, the best places to find shit is on 1377x and it sucks for searching.
I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.
ext is a nice aggregator (aggregates from multiple website and has its own uploads too)
Private trackers. You can't use debrids there.
Now, you can blame RD and stuff like stremio for fallin' of public trackers. Beacuse people don't want to seed content - or rather... they don't want to permaseed.
That's why you use private trackers with arr stack and plex/jf on a cheap home server
As someone who's stupid I like putting into he IMDb code and just that's it
Usenet is the way.
Can you explain to me (someone with moderate knowledge of computers) how is it safe to seed a torrent when other people have access to the file? I'm honestly asking because I'm not too smart in regards with cyber security or file sharing.
You're sending them a file, just like an attachment on a mail, they do not have access to your hard drive. It's more dangerous actually to download a torrent, since you don't know what can be in those files.
That said, your peers do get to know your IP address and open a direct connection with it, so if there is an exploit on the torrent client you're using you could get malware through there. This is the same as when using your browser to open a website, except that browsers have much better security audits (though also bigger attack surface area) and usually servers/websites you connect to are managed by companies, not random dudes, so it's unlikely they even try to infect your system.
So in general, nothing is completely safe. Seeding is not more dangerous than just downloading, but torrenting in general is more dangerous than just browsing. Both however are infinitely safer than downloading and running executable files from unknown sources (e.g. video games).
So, make backups, encrypt sensible files and run potentially dangerous stuff on sandboxes if possible.
You know gang, I’ve been up and down this piracy mega thread and ever since WSM got taken down I really can’t find shit on the torrent site links that are there?
Stremio starts seeding once you are downloaded. i dont see the problem
There's debrid service like debrid-link which can seed for 20 days / upto 15 ratio with private trackers. Pretty good
This is only an issue on public trackers. Getting into TL (for example) is insanely easy, and they have most of the stuff anyone would ever want.
I think it’s a semi bad take. Realistically, RD+Stremio merely adopted people that either weren’t going to torrent and therefore not seed or torrented very little and likely weren’t going to contribute much to the seed pool anyway. Sure there’ll be overlap in groups, but the worst effect will naturally be greater accessibility means less people willing to take the harder route which gives back to the community.
However, I will say that as times change I’d much rather the weaker links stay safe by using a Debrid service than potentially getting themselves in trouble. Some people just aren’t capable enough to maintain privacy.
I have torrented something like 3000 movies over the last two years. Torrenting is far from dead. These people just have no idea what they are doing.
A better question is what's being downloaded. 39gb is too small for a mainstream game and too big for most movie formats. It's either some obscure game or software or an older version that shouldn't be the one you downloaded
Is there a way to set up seeding while using real debrid and Stremio? I’m down to seed I just don’t know how to do it. I know how to seed while I’m downloading on like qbittorrent but not using Stremio and I don’t wanna be a leech!! Thanks fellow pirates! 💕
Meanwhile on usenet.
What??! I can easily download a whole movie in less than a minute from big trackers that have many torrents with thousands of seeders.
If you pay for Debrid you might as well not pirate at all. And I will die on this hill.
I'm done serving selfish Stremio users, I'm glad I moved to Private Trackers where my bandwidth is actually respected (not abused) and people seed back the torrents that they downloaded from me.
My comment on those who want to get started with Private Trackers - https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/s/TXJpUNJnjZ
I have a hard time finding and getting invited to any private trackers, I think many of us are in the same boat.
I joined TorrentLeech and SeedPool during open invite times.
I've had great experience with both, but now exclusively use SP due to the perks of being an early member.
Keep an eye out for r/OpenSignups and r/OpenedSignups, recently a pretty good tracker called Hd-torrents opened its registrations for users. Beginner level trackers open their registrations pretty often which you can just sign up and join without any hassle.
After joining a private tracker through open registrations, read their rules and wiki, and if you have any doubts regarding anything, try asking it in their IRC (most private trackers have one) or in r/trackers.
Once you've been in a private tracker for around a month and are familiar with how they work, then attend the interview for MyAnonaMouse (fully text based on IRC), it's super easy, they just ask you simple question about how torrents work and the rules mentioned on their site. The queue times aren't bad, I had to queue for less than an hour to get an interview.
MyAnonaMouse is a pretty good starting point, you can join multiple decent trackers from it's invite forums. You should also try getting an Interview for REDacted (RED), their interview is a bit more tricky as they are centred around Music, but thankfully they list all the information on their site, read it a few times and queue in for the interview. The queue times on RED are a bit worse, you may have to queue for days without disconnecting to get an interview or you could be lucky and get an interview in just a few hours after a netsplit.
Ranking up on MAM is super easy but it's not as easy on RED, expectedly, you could join pretty much any top tier cabal tracker by ranking up on RED but not so many from MAM, it's still worth joining both as they're both great trackers even without their invite forums.
Thank you for a such thought out response!
Been ages since i used any IRC client, its gonna be fun :D
That sounds like such a hassle. I think I'd rather just pay for content with money instead of with my time.
my bandwidth is respected
lmao touch grass
[removed]
Limit upload speeds bro
bro u chose to share the files in the first place 😭😭
if you use real debrid then it does not affect torrenting
it does, realdebride wont seed
Private trackers is where it is at after RARBG
I am still not clear on when and how stremio is also seeding... I use it, but would still like to contribute
I'm not gonna pay for any streaming services but I'm more than happy to pay for real debrid
whats stremio
I don't get it why are they blaming stremio?
Stremio, when used with torrents, will only download the torrent and not seed.
That's entirely unrelated to Stremio + RD, which was what was suggested.
It does seed the data you have in your cache. Most debrids on the other hand do overall negatively impact BitTorrent sources since they do not seed and just centralize the content. Arguably less of a hit then people just hitrunning, but definitely in the long term BitTorrent usage is massively down.
Debrids are very ueful in areas with extreme internet control, where torrent data is blocked by every point in those counries. So p2p sharing cant use torrents as a system. Download servers like debrid work best there.
Does subscribing to Real Debrid worth it now as I have seen articles saying they are going to crack down on pirating and due to some French film lawsuits
This is why I don't use Streamio and just keep seeding everything until I need to free up space on the drives.
this seems like a skill issue, everything I've ever wanted to download has had plenty of seeders
Yea torrenting is dead because I can just go to piracy websites and fuckin stream the shows from there. Why would I download anything. Has nothing to do with Netflix
Torrenting movies is like the dvd of piracy at this point
Personally I have no reason to torrent because I use Firefox & uBO so I can use the multitude of websites with every movie/show ever without worrying about ads or malware.
Even the majority of people who go to those sites raw are still enjoying all of their content without having to torrent it.
Is torrenting dead?
I've been finding more and more seeders than ever in recent years
yeah i'm old fashion i don't use that shit n i seed my stuff since the pc is on 24/7 anyway ,.. only time they're off is when i watch something on my partner's pc on the couch and i don't wanna fiddle with the jellyfin login cause of the vpn so i turn it off for a bit
I use Qbit, plex and Arrs. I watch every single TV show and movie I want with very little complication. The only thing I ever have trouble finding are things like drop out and tri guys
I don’t get the point of stremio for non-normies. You’re pirating because you want to own the media anyways, why just stream it?
Yeah but what are they downloading? The Alf Kwanza Special?
Pirates never shared their gold.
wait what I feel so bad 😭 is there any way to seed while using stremio or sm shi
Real debrid sucks now anyway. Stremio was always shit but now everything in this tweet sucks lol.
Laughs in private tracker
That's why i don't download movies/shows: - https://www.levidia.ch/a - https://sflix2.to
And you're welcome
im sorry, has this person never heard of the pirate bay?
Just usw private trackers and dont give a shit about streamio freeloaders.
No clue that he is talking about; I haven’t had a problem for literally decades.
Is it possible to seed with stremio? I use it for convenience, but would be more than happy to let it use my pc to seed for others
That's why you use a Debrid service that supports seeding. Torbox supports it.
Torbox works good only in certain areas.
Do you know exactly which areas? I have seen multiple people in Europe report that Torbox doesn't work well for them.
? I'm in western EU and Torbox works fine for me. Granted I don't stream 4K remuxes but 1080p works perfectly. I always let everything seed as long as possible after I'm done with it and have a 8+ ratio. It's a wonderful system
The servers are in South Africa as far as I could see from the peer list, I guess thats the price of peace of mind. But aside of latency that shouldn't matter too much and latency doesn't matter for streaming either. The only possible issue would be inter-continental peering? Haven't had any issues personally. I've seen my torrents seed at 600Mbit/s+ so they're definitely also not overprovisioned
Yes Torbox is shi* even here in Vietnam
Thank you for censoring the scary word. Don't want this sub to be demonetized!
Merde!
I use torbox, most of the time 4k, and has been an excellent service and probably the best web UI for this type of services
sg here. stream 80gb high bitrate files no problem. had a bit of stuttering in india but normal non remux 4k played flawlessly.
my Internet in sg is 6gbps, India was 1gbps iirc.
Where did you get 1gbps in india? Also most isps are a bitch and have FUP ;(
Im in us east and i get like 40 50 MBps. My internet speed is the bottleneck
Great in the US now!
Having to pay to seed is really a weird system
That's why you just setup a home torrenting server with Jellyfin and use that instead of yet another streaming service. Stremio inherently is just a streaming service as well.
I've been using all debrid that doesn't seem to seed. I'd prefer to be part of the solution. Torbox works with stremio?
Yes, Torbox works with Stremio, and the main addons (Torrentio, Mediafusion, Comet, etc.) support Torbox.
It only seeds for 24 hrs in their base plan..
I pay for the pro plan, which gives a month.
Even then if a torrent is already cached and you try to download the same torrent, it won't seed right?
Yeah unfortunately. You have to wait for the torrent to not be cached to seed (which sucks, as there could be no seeders once the torrent becomes uncached).
