Help on Epub kindle

Help on Epub kindle

I want to buy a Kindle 11th Gen for my sister, and download some Epub files or compatible formats and put them on it, idk how it works, do I just connect it to the PC and transfer files or something? Is it a hassle or is easy enough that I can teach it to my sister. Do you guys have some tips, or some recommendations?

(Sorry for my English, not native speaker)

Piracy is bad, mkay?

You can transfer them via Email. You only need to activate it in your Amazon account: https://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle. You can also just plug it into your computer and transfer files that way, I personally prefer email.

Curious why even bothering with email when you can directly send to device? I have the touch signature edition and just send my epubs directly to device without issue. If it prompts to convert it, I always click yes.

Use the software Calibre, add all your epub files to it, then connect the kindle to PC via USB. The software can handle transferring files and converting formats if necessary.

Jailbreak it: https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaking/kindle-models - then install Calibre to manage your books, using USB. When jailbroken, you can read more ebook types with KOReader :)

I don't know on newer ones but on my old Kindle it was literally just a folder when I plugged it into my PC then I could copy files across.

Put the Kindle in airplane mode, plug the Kindle into your PC, use Calibre in your PC to transfer the files to the kindle, unplug and enjoy!

Why airplane mode first?

Actually you better keep it in airplane mode, otherwise if the Kindle connects to the internet it will remove the covers of the books and doesn’t looks good IMO. But don’t worry, dictionary works in airplane modo too :)

Hi there! Recently I also bought kindle for my gf. There are few tips and tricks, I've yet discovered: - I would recommend ask Amazon support to remove the ads from your device. (If you ask nicely they will do it. It is better than spending 20 bucks.) (Check thr edit please, I was wrong with this.) - You can download .epub files, those will be the best format in my opinion. - If you have completed the setup and your device is ad free, then you should use it in airplane mode, so the battery will last waaay longer. - For the upload of epubs, you can do it via Amazon transfer or something (it requires Wifi connection), but you can also upload files via USB - For USB method I would totally recommend the use of Calibre (I needed some time to get used to it, but this is the best way to go if you decide to keep your device offline, in my opinion) - And last but not least, check out the kindle community on reddit, they are great.

I hope it did help. :)

Edit: They no longer remove ads, sorry for the misinformation.

Thank you for your time writing all this, so now there are ads between pages of the books or something?

Nope, not annoying ads, but the screen saver with ads will be book advertisements, "books you might love" or something, and I think, not so sure, in the library there is a banner on the bottom, but not annoying ad, just a little something... and also your downloaded book covers wont show, unless you set them and use the device in offline mode... if you turn on wifi, it deletes the set cover for the epubs

To use epubs on a Kindle, you first need to hack/jailbreak it. Otherwise you need to convert them to Kindle's proprietary format (either with the Send to Kindle app or Calibre).

Honestly, jailbreaking is best because using KOReader is leagues better than the stock Kindle reader. I literally just got the same green 2024 Kindle yesterday and went through the process. Took a couple of hours just because a bulk of jailbreaking is a waiting game. Use this guide to help: https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaking/WinterBreak/

When turning on the Kindle for the first time, DO NOT connect it to the internet. Doing so will cause the Kindle to auto update to the latest (unhackable) firmware. Follow this guide first, to prevent it from auto updating during the hacking process: https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaking/prevent-auto-update.html
Essentially just fill its storage with junk files till the Kindle only has about 30MB left. I just filled it with game ROMs and ISOs. When going through the Winterbreak guide, make sure to read carefully, as there will be an auto update file you need to make sure to delete each time you reconnect to the internet.

When you get to the part about installing KUAL, ignore the guide and place the KUAL .bin file in the Kindle's root directory. Then install it like it's an update (make sure you're in Airplane mode when doing this, and that official update file is removed from the root).

Once you have KOReader installed, you can remove ads for free by making a .txt file and naming it something like 2-ad-free.lua (name can be whatever, as long as the first character is 2 and you rename .txt to .lua). Within the .lua file, just paste this into it:

local Device = require("device")
Device.supportsScreensaver = function() return true end
Device.powerd:initWakeupMgr()

Then place the .lua file into koreader/patches (make a patches folder if there isn't one). Reboot the Kindle, and you're done. No more ads will appear when using KOReader (they'll still appear in the stock Kindle reader).

If your Kindle is compatible, jailbreak it and never look back, plenty of videos on youtube

Just install calibre, add the epubs, add to kindle and it’ll autoconvert them on the way. No jailbreaking necessary.
