I got an email from Autodesk's License Compliance saying they recognized I´ve been using a non-official version of their software and that we could talk to solve the problem and find a good solution.
Should I get worried?
They can't do shit to you. Email can be redirected straight to trash can. You can reply with clown emoji to it if you want. Don't buy their license, their company is absolute garbage, use pirated all day every day.
SimpleWall for the future
That sounds like a scam email. Why would Autodesk, a multi-billion dollar company even bother sending personal emails to "find a solution".
I know and that was the first thing I thought, but it is indeed an Autodesk email.
If they ever ask, just swear you thought it was a scammer trying to get you to open a virus!
When it gets next leveled they will FedEx threats. Otherwise ignore it.
And I am saying that as I have received cease and desist from 2 large corporations.
Through FedEx? That's actually probably illegal
They keep making me refresh my free license for Fusion 360.
I don't think I'll ever pay for it.
To avoid autodesk, foundry calling home you have to airgap the machine. No internet access allowed. Some people got by with a virtual ethernet card but you have already been exposed and so are screwed.
Second thing. There are a lot of cases where autodesk, foundry, chaosgroup sent reps directly to the studios found to be pirating and people who received polite letters in the mail from these companies for pirating. Except for foundry none of them chase hobbyists only professionals, but apparently they all keep track of every cracked license there ever was.
tl;dr you'll have to buy it but ask them for proof that they are who they say they are

I'm not familiar with this application, but couldn't you just block the traffic to the hosts it is trying to reach at your firewall? Or will the program fail to launch if it detects a network connection but can't reach home? (Kinda like the windows 10 installer would "force" you into using a Microsoft account unless it has no network access, then it would create a local account)
Use a software like netlimiter to block all outgoing and incoming traffic for the specific process.
Turn of net>install autocad and crack>restart>launch netlimiter then launch autocad.
Now just look at any process that pops up in netlimiter when you launch autocad and blocks its net triffic. Rinse and repeat until no new processes pop up.
I will have to buy an indie license anyway. Should I reply to this email or just buy and ignore it?
I think as long as you get a license you are safe, if something weird comes your way email the company website to verify that they are who they say they are because it's possible for scammers to pose.
Print it out and use it as toilet paper, then block their email and delete whatever they sent you.
Do you use the software?
Did you used your own email?
I had an indie version but changed to a pirate one cause I´m not doing any job atm. I feel dumb now... :/
If you changed to a pirated one and you used your email address and they contacted you... Well is a 50\50 chance to be fake or real.
When you pirate something never use your own stuff, this is some sort of more secure of bot being easly tracked https://10minutemail.com/
That I know. I don´t remember exactly how that happened, but I think I first deleted the indie version and installed the pirated later and for the pirated they didn´t ask for any e-mail or something... Anyways, I think is now too late. I wonder what is the "good solution" they want to find with me and if I can get away with this without any fee.
If you aren't airgapping the machine, foundry, autodesk etc will still be able to call home. There are some very scary stories of letters being delivered into people's physical mailbox because somehow they found that person's physical address without once sharing it on the secret sites. 3D art software... Every single time, they are quite fucking scary.
Autodesk is scum. I bought Motion Builder and Xsi with a pretty penny, at Siggraph in LA, a while ago. I got busy with life. Recently I wanted to reinstall the software, and play in 3d, but to my horror I could not get them to authorize the license, due to “technological advancement”, as they said, laughing in my face. So if buying the software doesn’t constitute ownership, pirating it is no stealing. Burden of proof is on them.
Not a big fan either but is the software I use to do my freelancing jobs every now and then. When I don´t have any job and just want to use for fun and study, even an indie license would be too much and I cannot afford it. I don´t what to reply or even if I should reply cause I´m about the get the indie version again cause I have something to start next week.
You just don't reply :)
Why would you reply and tell them they're right? Currently, all they know is that their systems think you're pirating.
Don't talk to them. They have to prove you're doing anything "wrong" - without hacking you, the only way they can do that is if you tell them
People shouldn't worry about pirating companies like these.
