Looking for a free AI text reader

So I'm a pretty slow reader and it takes me forever to read anything so I use a text reading app. Problem is it sounds horrible. I know they have a few AI apps that work great but I don't want to have to pay for a yearly service. Are there any downloads, apps, anything that is completely free AI reader?

Just keep reading for yourself and you’ll get better. Don’t cripple yourself with some bullshit AI.

Your automatic hostility to AI is correct but I’m pretty sure this dude is just lost in the buzzwords and means to talk about TTS.

Unless he wants a deepfake based AI voice; that’s horrible.

I'm 40 and have been an active reader for 20+ years and I'm still an extremely slow reader. Like if an audiobook is 20 hrs that ebook/physical book will take me 35 hrs. It sucks but it is what it is.

...

By AI I meant TTS but all the companies call them AI readers so that's what I called it.

Okay that’s fair. I would recommend audio book piracy way before TTS still because you lose tons of emotion and subtext with robot voices. Didn’t mean to judge you friend. I just really hate “AI” and all of its bullshit.

If you have Apple you can change it in the accessibility settings to read whatever is on the screen when you want

Jarods Journey on YouTube is making a self hosted TTS audio book maker/reader. It's usable now, but he's still working on it.

Yes make AI illegal but is TTS AI?

I think calling a TTS an AI reader is stupid, (unless they are talking about those deepfake “”high quality”” voices)

I would generally say no, but he specifically said AI.

Try the 11 Labs ELEVENREADER app. The best voices and allows a certain amount of free use per day.

For longer docs, the next best is NaturalReader. Fantastic voices. Have had it read full length books.

Both of those cost money. The free versions offer 2 hrs a week free, I've tried both and both are great. I just wish they had something like them but free 😑😑

if you have an iphone, I've been using Voice Dream Reader for a decade. You can upload doc, pdf, epub, and maybe some others (not mobi) and it'll just read it. It's totally free.

i've literally used it to memorize my opening statements and closing arguments, and i load my non DRM ebook files into it and it reads them to me no problem with a pretty dang good AI voice. It is not perfect, still sounds a bit robotic, but it's actually pretty good about inflection and understanding the cadence of what it's reading. I can't recommend it enough.

I'm a slow reader, probably a bit dyslexic even. I would just read at my own pace and never mind the Text To Speech or whatever.
