As one of the better programmers on the planet I only use google to find code that might possibly be more efficient than mine. I don't use google to solve coding problems. Only to make my superior solutions a bit better. Wink, wink. ./s
I've been using the new copilot agent mode recently and I would describe my current state as fetal position. The memes told me AI was bad, but it let me do a feature that would have taken me 3-4 days in 1 day. Not even counting how it can fix obscure build issues before I even have time to read what the error is. I don't think I'll have to worry about losing my job for 10 years, but I could envision companies cutting junior dev positions.
That's because LLMs are tools for experts to use. Very powerful tools in the right hands. This "AI" techbro hypetrain only exists to sell more useless shit to plebs and axe Junior positions like you said.
Obviously if you don't hire junior Devs, you're gonna run out of senior devs eventually and the LLM tools will be useless with no expert to watch over it. They'll fly away on a golden parachute long before that unfortunately.
AI is bad if you dont have the expertise to look at what it has done and say if its gonna be a disaster or not. Also knowledge of what little parts to change for it to be maintainable
