No but seriously I liked the website it’s funny and I do infact hate it when people do that.
Haaaaa, thanks! Any feedback suggestions how can we make it funnier? I wanted to leave some of the most obvious example out just to not trigger some people too specifically.. But open to any struggles that could be added :D
Will do
👍
You didn’t even hesitate, huh? ;) Straight to the crime scene with the weapon in hand.
It was too tempting not too, great site tho!
Haha no worries and thanks! Feel free to unleash it next time someone hits you with a lazy emoji reply
As a regular "" reply-er myself. I love this site 👍
you actually reply? monster. The only correct response is +:+1:
Haha awesome, glad you liked it! Honestly, as much as I hate getting a thumbs-up on something that clearly needs a real reply… I've definitely done it too. Think we’re all guilty at some point.
If you’ve got any good stories or passive-aggressive emoji moments, drop ’em! I’d love to hear how bad it gets on your side :D
Nothing in particular, but I think I picked on this habit from my dad xD Replying with a thumbs up is a VERY 'dad reply'
To be honest, I think that's the classic origin :D And nothing says “I read none of that” like a boomer hitting you with a 👍
Most of the time, thumbs up means “i’ve seen this and (at least think i have)understood it” it’s an indication of agreement, but that i don’t need to add more. Long messages are more likely to get a thumbs up, because they probably cover everything and need little more than an agreeable “seen and understood, i have nothing to add” response.
Yes, in the right context, a thumbs-up is perfectly fine. It's quick, polite, efficient.
But here's the deal. That’s kinda the whole point of the meme site: thumbs-ups are easy to overuse, and context gets lost fast. What you mean as “I read this and agree” might land (and often does) as “I didn’t really read this and I’m brushing you off”, especially in high-stakes or open-question messages.
The site’s not trying to cancel the emoji. It’s more like a mirror. A little passive-aggressive reminder that not everything deserves a silent 👍 and a Slack trail with no accountability.
Those who know the cases, do know!
👍
I see what you did there
Ack
The spiritual cousin of the thumbs-up emoji (but a lot better one!)
Here's the site: https://nothumbsup.com
It’s dumb, free, and full of confetti.
Use it the next time someone reacts to your 3-paragraph Jira update with a single emoji (instead of actual input you still wait for)
👍
🤌🏼👍🏼
Yeah, NoHello definitely came to mind. It’s not about emojis, but the passive-aggressive workplace energy is in the same family 😂
Different trigger, same underlying pain. Can relate to both.
This is epic
Thanks, really appreciate that! Honestly made it in a semi-broken state of mind after one too many Slack thumbs-ups to things that required input from the other end. Feel free to send it to someone next time you get hit with a lazy emoji reply. Btw, any other feedback? (without hurting the thumbsup abusers too much), some examples are still quite neutral..
👍🏼
And how much is that in story points...

Add 🚫 to that!

Tricking the system!

Wtf
Confused why a thumbs up triggers you but "got it" wouldn't? It's literally the same thing
I think for me it’s just context. If there are still open questions or decisions to make, a thumbs up feels like a shrug. “Got it” at least sounds like someone actually read it
The post is AI tho… come on just write it yourself
It's not. Wrote it myself.
Not the website, the post. I suppose u don’t know what actually happened but it is SCREAMING AI to me.
Yeah, I got it that you meant this post. I also replied to that. Not sure what else can I say though?
Is this actually a problem?
Over the last 10 years of using slack at various companies I've never run into this issue. Never once a thumbs up to a question that wasn't simply asking for a "yes/no" response or simple acknowledgement.
I have had questions ghosted, but not with a thumbs up or emoji reply.
Whenever I get a thumbs up or thumbs down I treat it as a "yes or no" response which has never had issues.
Sounds like you’ve worked with some solid teams. Can't say the same for me (or a lot of others I've talked to)
Let's start with the fact that this is a meme/joke. But about the case.. For me, the frustration isn’t really the emoji itself (only), it's when it replaces a proper reply in situations that clearly need real input or clarity. Like when someone drops a 👍 on a long update with unanswered questions still hanging.
It’s not always a problem, but when it happens in the wrong context, it definitely feels off. Kinda like being ghosted, but with extra passive energy.
That said, this site is mostly just a meme. People who’ve dealt with it more probably find it way more relatable and funny. Appreciate your perspective though! Honestly refreshing to hear it’s not universal.
Interesting.. I've never run into that.
What I have run into at multiple places is people messaging you with "hi"
And then not following up with any questions or why they are messaging you until you respond to them which is infuriating. I've gotten to the point at some places where I won't respond unless they also provide more info in their opening message. Which has led to almost a day or more in some cases going by before they eventually follow up with the actual question which is crazy..
Yeah, a standalone "hi" is as triggering, or even more so. But precisely nothumbsups is in the same box as nohello.
