He writes crappy code, but prides himself on being a 20 yoe āhackerā who worked for Amazon, Blizzard, and the DOE. But over the past few months, heās been the center of controversy from cheating in games to misquoting/misrepresenting a gaming movement called āstop killing gamesā. All because his ego is through the roof and he wonāt apologize.
The code review videos from various creators have been fun to watch. He writes intern-level code, and him trying to defend it as the pinnacle of code writing hits a nerve.
Idk if I met many programmers that held their code on a pedestal. The scale always seems to be at best they like it at worst they hate it with a burning passion
Sure, but I've met plenty that hold others below their own. Viewing yourself as having sunk the least is still placing yourself on a pedestal of sorts.
I do realize the irony of saying this in this context.
The difference is those programmers likely don't take any chance they can to brag about being a game dev for 20 years and working at Blizzard as a dev constantly (both lies of course)
I wouldnt hire an intern with that code. It's the kind of stuff you as as a first year TA
I found it odd that he's trying to defend it against all accusations.
Maybe the rest of you are programming gods who always write perfect code, but I'm willing to admit I've written plenty of code that could be improved, and had designs that turned out to be bad in practice.
(At least, compared to the examples from him, my code is more readable.)

He looks at his phone twice for extended periods of time in his Outer Space "blind" playthrough. He also magically solved the wingdings puzzle in Animal well "solo" when it took the game community a good amount of time to come up with a solution for it.

It's just abusing the cpp preprocessor So when you see "#define e using" it will find all the "e" in the program (not including in the other defines) and replace it with "using"

I've seen scramblers where everything looks like ooo000o0ooo0. People used to do this to code before compiling the executable so that if someone tries to decompile it, it looks completely incomprehensible.
It's called obfuscation and it does happen. Can also be used in a slightly less than savory way to subvert contracts that demand you provide source, but not necessarily source that is understandable. You take your somewhat human readable and documented development code, run it through the obfuscator that strips all comments and names everything incomprehensible. You deliver obfuscated code to the client. They can inspect, they can build it, but they cant hire another contractor to maintain it because no one who hasnt received divine inpiration to write an OS could possibly understand the thing.
Would you guys please stop making fun of him? Sure, his code smelled, but it doesn't mean he deserves to be roasted and scolded so much. Get over it.
