Microsoft says some older computers aren't suitable for Windows 11.

However, what often works:

- Install Linux on these computers

- Install Windows 11 in a VM

Lol, when your PC is too old for updates but you got VMs and Linux as your tech life support. #JustTechieThings

But why?

Probably because Oracle VM can emulate TPM which is main "deal breaker" for W11

Yeah I know about the requirements, my question was about why would you do this. At that point just use Linux, or find any of the other workarounds that will let you install it without tpm.

If you computer can run windows in a virtualbox at any usable speeds, then it shouldn't so old that it's impossible to get it working with Windows 11. And if it is that old, then the VM method may not be very usable either.

Simplest answer: platform specific development. For example, user developing .NET Framework application

You can't get the same level of security if some security features are missing in the firmware.

lmao at this point just use Linux instead of that nightmare of an OS

Well, a virtual machine is an emulated computer. The emulator can emulate whatever, even completely different hardware (which is than slow as fuck, but works).

So wondering that this works is like wondering that some GameBoy emulator works even your PC is obviously not a GameBoy.

I'm definitely not a M$ fan (Linux desktop user since a quarter century) but imho the cry out about M$ not supporting some older hardware any more is massively overacted. It's about really old hardware, 10+ years. Any computer for max. 200 bucks will be faster and more quiet, and at the same time consume much less power. If you're living somewhere where electric power is expensive you likely get your 200 bucks back during the lifetime of the new hardware just by saving on your power bill.

I understand that some people are sentimental about their ancient hardware, but realistically it's more economic to just put that into the museum and move on instead of trying to still run it.
