Your submission was removed for the following reason:

Rule 1: Posts must be humorous, and they must be humorous because they are programming related. There must be a joke or meme that requires programming knowledge, experience, or practice to be understood or relatable.

Here are some examples of frequent posts we get that don't satisfy this rule: * Memes about operating systems or shell commands (try /r/linuxmemes for Linux memes) * A ChatGPT screenshot that doesn't involve any programming * Google Chrome uses all my RAM

See here for more clarification on this rule.

If you disagree with this removal, you can appeal by sending us a modmail.

Oh mine to. I scored one of those raspberry pi cluster boards that holds 6 compute modules.

Microcenter ordered a pallet of them and they didn't sell. So I picked up 2 of them for $60 each.

But having a feeling of "this is my homelab and I am in control here" is such a good thing in a world where almost everything is out of my control ...

That is one of the main reasons I got i to electronics engineering.

But building the cluster IS the therapy for John DevOps

Joking aside, some people's hobbies are there therapy. Talk therapy doesn't work on everyone

Can't you read, OP?! It clearly says that's totally not a Kubernetes cluster!

Wait would a couple of these dell PCs be a good home server compared to something like the minisforumMS-01?

To be completely honest a $2 million mainframe would be better suited for the hentai porn.

Redundancy, and core count. Its $500 for 12 core miniforum, for the same price you could probably push 24 cores from the dells at least.

I built a Xeon Gen 2 server for this. I have 40 cores @ 2.5 Ghz. It ain't fast, but I run a redundant cluster on it, AND I run a dev cluster along side it so I can do green/blue deployments.

So much of consumer computing is about peak clock speed, because you are only really doing ONE thing because your a user, interfacing with the system. Instead in k8s cluster you can be doing 100s of things, maybe even 1000s of operations in parallel. So core count becomes much more important, or at least as important as core/boost clock speed. Power is a serious concern, and affects the value proposition. Your gonna pay way more in power with the dells.

tl;dr In workloads designed for parallelism, cores mean more simultaneous jobs which equates to more total throughput, but getting integrated cores in a single machine becomes prohibitively expensive.

Depends on if You pay for your electricity, they have probably 200 W power supplies and take up at least 25 W when idle. All for the power of 6x i3 from 10 years ago.

My therapy bill is about $180 a month with no insurance coverage for my provider. That’s a lot less than the headache of building K8s at home.
