Was the coconut thing even real?
The image existed, but it was never important to the program working. Just an unused asset that fans had fun with.
If you have Steam and TF2 installed you can navigate to where its at and delete it right now without issue. The story was made up by fans for fun, no devs involved. The coconut texture was added during Team Fortress 2's Man Vs Machine update but then never used for the intended purpose.

so it went something like this:
Dev 1: Hey, there is this random egg file in here... lets remove that silly thing.
Dev 2: Yeah thats unused, nuke it.
Marketing: Brag about it.
Dev 1: Shit... fails to compile or package and we dont know why...
Dev 2: what changed?
Dev 1: We deleted the egg file... thats it!
Dev 2: Well put it back! 18kb is cheaper than days of troubleshooting through the spaghetti code.

What actually happened:
Marketing 1: Those TF2 Coconut Memes sure are reposted a lot on programming subreddits. This is a demographic very interesting to our product.
Marketing 2: Yeah lets invent a similar situation for our product and hope it gets a similar loop of getting reposted every few weeks.

It means people only download it because it "looks cool", because functionality wise it does nothing special.
And as pointed out, it's basically spyware/data theft.
“Ricing” is a term that car enthusiasts use to refer to visual modifications done in arguably poor taste. “Rice” is a backronym standing for “race-inspired cosmetic enhancement”. So, they’re saying the appeal to this browser is visual customization which makes little to no practical difference.
I don't know about the meaning of the term in the car world but in tech, ricing very much does not have a negative connotation. In fact, there are entire subreddits dedicated to it like r/unixporn

It's also predominantly chromium in a fancy suit, so if you are using it to get away from chrome, you are failing to get away from chrome.
When Google continues building a browser engine that makes it impossible to block ads, there is not a damn thing any of the chromium based browsers will be able to do to overcome that.
Using Google's javascript engine and rendering engine ensures your browser will die when Google wants it to, since those are the actual difficult parts to making a modern web browser.

I was helping out a friend on his side hustle one summer and this was a project like a dozen people had messed with and added stuff to and the sheer number of comments saying
“don’t delete the empty line of code below this comment or it will break”
“Breaks if you uncomment this line”
“ I’m not getting paid enough to fix this but don’t optimize anything here or it will kill itself”
At that point, you just add a comment "For everyone that attempts to fix this code not believing the above warnings, add yourself to the tally once you fail: 0"
See what number it eventually gets to.
I was messing with something related to old references that were taking up too much memory and stumbled into some chaotic spaghetti and in my attempt to make sense and cleanup whatever was happening I broke half the code in that project because someone was just throwing shit at the wall till they stumbled into something barely functional.
You get the code functional first then optimize it "later"

I can count on one hand the number of times I have gotten my projects to step 3.
I can't even count. I let my 50 line spaghetti script do that.
I follow this. 2nd part is tough but can do. By 3rd part I'm just on give up mode.
To be honest this was only my second year in college and I still thought I was better than I actually was. It was the usual group of college students thinking they’re make a company while still being dumb.

Ah I was a bit vague and It’s been a few years but from what I remember there were a ton of lines of code just commended out so “breaks if you uncomment” was followed by some chunk of spaghetti commented out so if you tried to compile it would break. But I have no clue why the blank line caused stuff to break if deleted that project was full of people’s dirty spaghetti filled laundry.
