And its always that one person, nearly each team has one, that takes the majority of the time.

There’s always that one teammate giving a TED Talk during a 15-min standup 😩🎤

Also the guy that wants to ask a question or share something at the end and drags the meeting for another 15 minutes (or more).

See, those people don't know the art of waiting until the meeting has just ended and then making a bee-line to the presenter so you can ask your question without making enemies.

It's a skill that comes with time.

only 20% of the team take up 80% of the time

miss my old team stand-ups. i gave everyone in my team 30-60 seconds to give a rundown. team of 20-25 guys, and we finished in under 10 minutes unless there was a departure or a birthday. but, other teams i’ve been on, yeah… this!

25 people is a department not a team.

For me it's more like a sense of apathy...like OK, sure this one ended on time, but there's 6 or 7 more right after it. I just want to get back to work.

Exactly.

Want to demo some cool new feature or css effect you've been working on? Bring your laptop to the pub and show me at lunch

I'm glad I don't have to deal with this shit anymore.

I've done jobs that have it and jobs that don't. I appreciate it when it's done right, but more often than not it's just a waste of time.

Standup is for the organizer to gather status and information, leave decisioning out of the meeting unless its required immediately. Same applies to attendees, you only have to report progress and provide infos, if there's something needed to be elaborated, it should be between you and the team manager after the standup; or if it's rather important that every member should be aware of, a standalone meeting for it should be held.

I usually finish my update in about 30 seconds, unless I'm feeling really spicy. Two other people on my team usually take about a minute each.

Then the last 2 somehow manage to make a 30 MINUTE STANDUP RUN TO TIME OR LONGER. EVERY DAY.

It baffles my mind.
