I only learnt a bit of Vim for a class, but while I understood why it was what it was, but I always did find exiting a file unintuitive.
Escape, that makes sense, colon then q or some combination of letters was weird to me, because that is just an odd combination of characters to me.
I am sure like any other skill, the more you do it the more natural it becomes, but at the beginning that was the most unnatural thing about Vim for me.
