I get that feeling a little bit too. With regards to “it is never okay to talk to a woman you don’t know and speak about her looks”. But on the other hand he talks about how it’s a class issue and he used to me a GM at many retails. I think his wife mentioned that some dude called her beautiful, and him being insecure went all white knighty/insecure and couldn’t settle on an argument. Also, complimenting anyone for looking well, isn’t always creepy. Depends on context that we’re missing.

This is my interpretation as well. He seems to be standing up for her, and upset on her behalf. She wanted to get a sandwich and got a side of sexual harassment along with it. I think people who are not women forget how threatening it can be to have to deal with a group of men bigger and stronger than you eying you like a piece of meat, and not being able to do anything about it. They made what should have been a nothing of an interaction extremely uncomfortable. He mentions it not being India, which is notorious for harassment of women.

To me, this looks like the wife complained to her husband and he went to tell them that their behavior was unprofessional. I've been on the receiving end as a woman just trying to shop and being hit on by workers. It's really not pleasant.

When did men making women uncomfortable like that become acceptable?! Their race or ethnicity literally has no impact coz it would be equally creepy if the cashier was white, black or anything else.
Also they didn’t see their behavior as wrong, the apology was “I’m sorry but it was just a compliment, why are you so angry”. They still didn’t see anything wrong with what they did and will probably continue this behavior in the future.
As a woman, being called beautiful is NOT being creepy. If they ganged up on her and cornered her, sure. They continued to compliment her after she asked them to stop? Absolutely. But "Hey beautiful, what can I get you today?" Is not being creepy. We are getting more Indians in the states and there is a cultural issue. There actually was a video that I saw on YouTube of a man yelling at some convenience store workers (also Indian) about them attempting to flirt with the daughter. The daughter complained to the father, in case anyone is wondering. It actually happens with many people from different countries. Still, I will say that I have also seen many altercations between average Americans over the same issue. It just usually occurs with younger males.
Honestly, he’s not wrong though. Cat-calling is creepy no matter what and it makes us feel very uncomfortable, on edge and our guard immediately goes up. From the way he’s talking, she’s probably told him this and he’s defending her.
